IFC Midnight Now Possesses The Rights To Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Demonic’

Back in February, we reported that filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, Chappie) had secretly made the horror film Demonic and that it was heading to EFM. Now, we can report that IFC Midnight and AGC Studios have acquired the U.S. rights to the film both written and directed by Neill Blomkamp. In Demonic, a young woman unleashes terrifying demons when supernatural forces at the root of a decades-old rift between mother and daughter are ruthlessly revealed. Carly Pope (Elysium), Chris William Martin (The Age of Adaline, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, TV’s “The Vampire Diaries”), and Michael Rogers (TV’s Siren, TV’s The Blacklist, TV’s Supernatural) are set to star in the supernatural horror. Blomkamp first earned critical acclaim across the board for his debut feature and sci-fi allegory on immigration District 9 before going on to further success with such films as Elysium and Chappie, and his short film series from Oat Studios which he discussed with us during our

Sinister Six: A Half-Dozen Films We Can’t Wait to See at Panic Fest

The ninth annual edition of Kansas City’s Panic Fest grows closer, as the hybrid edition takes place from April 8–18, 2021. I mentioned in Horror Fuel’s previous article about the festival that I have seen — and can highly recommend — some of the films scheduled, including Canadian horror comedy Vicious Fun, killer stuffed animal comedy Benny Loves You, and Australian horror comedy An Ideal Host, the unsettling An Unquiet Grave, folk horror The Old Ways, and Canadian science fiction feature Parallel Minds. Now I want to share six films on offer for Panic Fest that I can’t wait to watch. The official festival descriptions follow, with my thoughts in italics after each listing. The Carnivores D: Caleb Michael Johnson Regional Premiere, 1h 17min Alice and Bret’s dog Harvey is dying, and he’s ruining everything. What had been a bright little family is quickly getting consumed by clouds of self-doubt, suspicion, and a disturbing amount of ground beef. Dramedy and

The hybrid edition takes place from April 8–18, 2021. I have seen a few of the films on tap, and can tell you that you will be hard-pressed to find a funnier horror comedy this season than Canadian offering Vicious Fun, while killer stuffed animal comedy Benny Loves You and Australian horror comedy An Ideal Host offer their fair shares of laughs and shocks, as well. Films such as An Unquiet Grave and The Old Ways take darker approaches to fear-fare, and science fiction fans will find features such as Parallel Minds much to their liking. Blu-ray Review: Nosferatu in Venice (1988)

Some duck hunters shoot down a bat which a dog then eats like a complete mother fucker. Thus begins 1988’s Nosferatu in Venice in the only way it possibly could. Next up we have the arrival of the that most Van Helsing of Van Helsings; Professor Paris mother fucking Catalano… yeah I have no clue either, but he’s played by Christopher Plummer (Starcrash) so bonus… and the way he glides into Venice standing straight as an arrow on a fast moving gondola is some big dick energy for sure (and there’s a mirror image of it utilized later in the film that is jaw-droppingly beautiful). Anyway; Catalano is down Venice way to research the last recorded appearance of that dread vampire Nosferatu (Klaus Kinski, who you can bet we’ll be talking more about soon) in the plague-ridden late 1700’s… and yes, the vampire’s name is Nosferatu… not Count Orlok… not Dracula… mother fucking Nosferatu… which just means vampire. Yes indeed…

Showtime Sinks Its Teeth Into A New Series Inspired ‘Let The Right One In’

2008’s Let the Right One In is on every must-see list for horror fans. Now, the Swedish film is getting a loose series adaptation from Showtime, Variety reports. Genre staple Demián Birchir, who you’ll recognize from The Nun, The Grudge (2020), Alien Covenant, or Godzilla vs Kong, is set to star in the vampire series. “The series centers on Mark (Bichir), a father and his 12-year-old daughter, Eleanor, whose lives were changed forever 10 years earlier when she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the minimal amount of human blood she needs to stay alive.” The original film is an adaptation of the 2004 novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist who also penned the script. It was directed by Tomas Alfredson and tells the story of a bullied young boy who finds love
