What Makes ‘Contagion’ The Most Relevant “Horror” Film Right Now?

Alright first off, true, Contagion is not really a horror film, but a thriller but due to recent events going on around the world, it might as well be as there are so many creepy similarities boarding lining with Simpsonsesque foresight which is why the film is more relevant now than when it came out in 2011. What adds credence to the film is the outpouring of praise and support by the scientific community that applaud the film’s showing of what goes on behind the scenes when scientists are put on the front line to fight a pandemic. For those not familiar with the film, Contagion follows the spread of a new (fictitious) virus that becomes known as MEV-1 and how it spread quickly around the world causing mass panic and death while the CDC along with other organizations struggle to find a way to combat the virus as misinformation spreads. Just Like The Coronavirus, Panic And Misinformation Is Spreading

Cases of Corona Virus (AKA SARS-CoV-2, and COVID-19) are on the rise in the United States and the result are as suspected; people are starting to panic while ignoring the experts. The rate of panic has now increased since my last article about people being afraid of contracting the disease from all things Corona Beer. New fears arose due in part of deliberate misinformation spreading by “Troll Farms” on social media that are making people afraid of people of East Asian Decent as seen on multiple viral (no pun intended) videos on social media showing people freaking out at fellow public transit passengers that are Asian. Understanding Coronavirus

You’re seeing it all over the news, may it be on TV, your phone, newspapers, websites, you name it; everyone is talking about Coronavirus. The disease was formally known as the “Wuhan Virus” as the outbreak originated in the capital city of Wuhan in the province of Hubei in China. The name was changed to Coronavirus since that’s the actual name of the family the virus is part of. Either way, the increasing number of cases and the rising death toll being shown in media is causing mass panic overseas and potentially here at home soon enough. ‘Zombie Deer Disease’ May Infect Humans, Scientists Fear

WARNING: SOME IMAGES MAY BE DISTURBING In 24 states, elk, deer, and moose have been seen to exhibit “zombie-like” behavior. They dramatically lose weight, drool, stumble around, and act aggressively towards humans seemingly without fear. Though people have dubbed this disease “Zombie Deer Disease” it’s actually called, Chronic Wasting Disease or CWD The illness attacks the animal’s neurological system causing them to basically starve to death. With the number of cases rising across the United States, scientists fear that inevitably the disease will “jump” to the human species; this is known as “Cross-Species Transmission”, where a disease that originates in an Animal is spread outside their species. The disease resembles Bovine spongiform encephalopathy “Mad Cow Disease” but once the meat of an infected cow was consumed by a human it becomes Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease or CJD. The Safest Place During A Zombie Apocalypse?

Back in 2015 at the American Physical Society (APS) meeting in San Antonio, researchers from Cornell University presented a talk on Statistical Mechanics involving a zombie outbreak in the United States to a standing only room. Max Brooks’ book, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, inspired the researchers to run a real-world simulation of how a zombie virus outbreak as seen in Brooks’ book would play out in the real world. “Modeling zombies takes you through a lot of the techniques used to model real diseases, albeit in a fun context,” says Alex Alemi one of the graduate students who worked on the research with fellow graduate students. The simulation showed surprising results, in the simulation the zombie outbreak does not occur in many areas at once, it starts in New York City, the more likely place any major outbreak would arise in any major US city but the big apple was used in the test.
