Amandla Stenberg Set To Star In ‘Fear’ Re-Imagining

Earlier this year we reported that Universal is planning “re-imagining” 1996’s thriller Fear. We finally have an update. Today, Deadline reported that Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) is set to star. Unlike in the original film that starred Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon, it’s said that this time the film will be from a female perspective. In the original, “Nicole (Witherspoon) met David (Wahlberg); handsome, charming, affectionate, he was everything. It seemed perfect, but soon she sees that David has a darker side. And his adoration turns to obsession, their dream into a nightmare, and her love into fear.” Straight Outta Compton‘s Jonathan Herman will pen the script. Brian Grazer will return to produce for Imagine Entertainment.

Plot Revealed For Leigh Whannell’s ‘The Invisible Man’

The first plot details have arrived for Leigh Whannell‘s new take on the 1933 horror classic The Invisible Man. That’s not all, we’ve also learned that A Wrinkle in Time actress Storm Reid has joined the cast that already includes “The Handmaid’s Tale” star Elisabeth Moss. The film centers on Cecilia (Moss), who receives the news of her abusive ex-boyfriend’s suicide. She begins to rebuild her life for the better. However, her sense of reality is put into question when she begins to suspect her deceased lover is not actually dead. Reid will play the role of Sydney. With her mother gone, she’s picked up the slack and is very capable and mature for her age. She’s an outgoing lover of fashion who aspires to see the world, and she initially likes having Cecilia around as a role model but grows mistrustful of her when strange things begin to happen around the house. ‘Dark Knight’ Writer Behind New ‘Hellraiser’ Reboot

It seems like every classic horror film that we’ve grown to love is being rebooted. The latest movie to be added to list is Clive Barker’s Hellraiser. Variety is reporting that David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Blade II) is getting ready to serve up what we hope is not another painful installment. Goyer is describing the reboot as a “loyal, evolved reimagining.” Gary Barber‘s Spyglass Media will finance, develop, and fast-track the film for distribution. I’ve been a fan of Clive’s work since the original Books of Blood paperbacks and ‘The Hellbound Heart’” Goyer stated. “Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.“ Keith Levine will be producing alongside Goyer.

Chucky Is Ready To Slash His Way Into Theaters In First Real Image From ‘Child’s Play’ Reboot

After months of teasing and waiting we finally have our first real look at the Child’s Play reboot. In the new art, we see Buddi, the new Chucky doll. While he does look similar to the classic doll we’ve come to love and fear. First, you’ll notice the doll’s bigger eyes, then its sleeker look. Orion and MGM have teamed up for the Child’s Play reboot with Polaroid director Lars Klevberg in the director’s chair. Originally known as “The Good Guy Doll” the red-headed killer has been rebranded as “Buddi”, an A.I. doll vastly different from the original talking doll. The movie follows “(Aubrey Plaza) who gives her son (Gabrial Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.” Beatrice Kitsos (“The Exorcist”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Atlanta”), and Ty Consiglio also star in the film written by Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury). Jen And Sylvia Soska’s Reimagining Of Rabid Slaying At Screenings

When Jen and Sylvia Soska‘s reimagining of David Cronenberg’s 1977 classic, Rabid was announced last year I was thrilled. I’ll be honest, I’ve been a fan of the “Twisted Twins” since I first saw American Mary back 2012. Today, I have the pleasure of reporting that the sisters announced via Twitter that Rabid has been officially completed. The CW Is Sex Swapping Characters For ‘The Lost Boys’ Series

Brace yourselves, you’re not going to be happy with I’m about to tell you. We’ve been reporting for a while that a series adaptation is in the works for the beloved 1987 vampire film The Lost Boys. Today we have an update. The CW’s series is going to be very different from the story we know and love. In fact, several characters are getting a gender swap, including the Frog brothers, originally played by Cory Feldman and Jamison Newlander. That’s right, the two vampire slayers are going to be girls in the series. Collider is reporting that the Frogs will now be named Cassie and Liza. Ugh (*facepalm). While no casting has been announced at this point we have our fingers crossed that this will be the only change to the main characters. And the first full trailer is finally here. With Polaroid director Lars Klevberg in the director’s chair, Chucky will make his return to theaters this June. ‘Upgrade’ Director To Remake ‘Escape From New York’

Genre fans should be very familiar with filmmaker Leigh Whannell, who is behind the Insidious franchise, Saw and Upgrade. He continues to add to his long list of horror hits. Not only was it just announced that Whannell will be in the director’s chair for Universal’s reboot of The Invisible Man, we’ve just learned that he will also be directing the remake of John Carpenter’s classic Escape from New York. THR is reporting that while no deal is in place at the moment their sources are saying he’s the one. “Whannell is kickstarting Escape from New York with a new vision for the project that sources say will retain elements of the original but bring new ideas to the table. Candyman Reboot Announces First Star And Release Date

Jordan Peele, whose “Twilight Zone” revival is set to premiere this April, has begun working on his reboot of the 1992 horror classic Candyman. In fact, the first star has just been announced. LaKeith Stanfield, who appeared in Peele’s hit Get Out, is set to star as Anthony, “a socially pronounced artist in Chicago who researches the urban legend of Candyman. After investigating the killer’s last known whereabouts, strange killings begin to occur.” There is no word yet if Tony Todd, the man who brought the iconic character Candyman to life in the original franchise, will reprise his role. I have a feeling that if he doesn’t fans won’t be happy. You can’t just replace an icon. Peele’s revamped version of Candyman is set to open in theaters on June 12, 2020. New ‘Final Destination’ Movie Is Headed Our Way

Final Destination fans have been begging for a new installment for years and they’re finally getting their wish, sort of. THR is reporting that Final Destination is getting a “re-imagining”. New Line Cinema has hired horror writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen the script. The duo is most recognized for writing four of the Saw films as well as Piranha 3DD. Dunstan is also working on the upcoming Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark film. The first Final Destination debuted in 2000 and was hit, bringing in $122 million. That’s not bad for a film made on a $23 million dollar budget. With non-stop thrills and seriously epic kills, I’m not surprised it made fans happy. There is still a question as to whether or not Tony Todd will be reprising his role, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon.
