Movie Review: The Pyramid (2014)

I have been eagerly waiting to see ‘The Pyramid’, written by Daniel Meersand and Nick Simon, and directed by Gregory Levasseur, since I first heard about it months ago. Yesterday (May 5) ‘The Pyramid’ was released on DVD, of course I had to pick up a copy. Last night I planted myself in-front of the TV, in my pajamas, ready to watch the action. The cast of ‘The pyramid’ include Ashley Hinshaw (Chronicle), James Buckley (The Inbetweeners), Christa Nicola Home and Away), Amir K (Argo) and ‘American Horror Story’ actor Denise O’Hare. In ‘The Pyramid’ the history of the Egyptian pyramids combine with ancient mythology, to create a fantastic horror experience. A team of Archaeologists have discovered a previously unknown pyramid deep in the Egyptian desert. As they prepare to explore the pyramid, the Egyptian government demands they evacuate due to the turmoil from protesters and riots in the capital. Of course, with a once in a life time find

Movie Review: The Canal (2014)

David, a film archivist has been having a tough time lately. David has been going through old reels of crime scene footage at work and stumbled across a video of a crime scene in his new home. To top everything off, David suspects his wife (Alice) may be having an affair. David soon begins hearing voices and seeing shadow figures around him. When Alice disappears David’s world descends into chaos and now his son is in serious danger. The Canal was written and directed by Ivan Kavanagh and stars ‘Hellboy’ actor Rupert Evans as the main character, David. This supernatural tale also stars Hannah HoekstraAnit (APP) as David’s wife Alice. Campbell-Hughes (Albert Nobbs) as David’s coworker. Many other fine actors are listed as cast members. I have to say, I really didn’t expect much from ‘The Canal’, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. Rupert Evans did a great job in is role as David. He really sales the

Movie Review: The Babadook (2014)

Spoiler Free A single mother, who 7 years later still can’t get over the death of her husband, is struggling to cope with her situation. After reading a strange book to her son, they become plagued by strange occurrences and a dark figure. “If it’s in a word or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of The Babadook.” ‘The Babadook’ was written and directed by Jennifer Kent, who also wrote and directed 2005’s short horror film ‘Monster’. The exhausted single mother, Amelia, is played by ‘The Matrix: Revolution’ actress Essie Davis. The role of Amelia’s unruly son, Samuel, is played by Noah Wiseman (The Gift). Since before ‘The Babadook’ hit theaters it has been making big waves in the horror community and since it was released in theaters it has been hailed as the best horror of 2o14. Now I see why, this movie is seriously intense. I was surprised to see that there were no big special

Movie Review : ‘Out Of The Dark’ (2015) Starring Julia Stiles

Sarah (Julia Stiles), her husband Paul (Scott Speedman) and their young daughter relocate to Columbia when Sarah takes a job at her father’s paper plant. Sarah has no idea that her father, played by Stephen Rea (Underworld: Awakening), is hiding a dark secret that is about to put Sarah and Paul’s daughter Hannah in serious danger at the hands of angry spirits . Sarah and Paul must uncover the truth and find their daughter before it’s to late. Director Luis Quilez brings this supernatural thriller to life. ‘Out of the Dark’ was written by Javier Gullon (Enemy), David Pastor (Carriers) and Alex Pastor (The Last Days). In ‘Out of the Dark’ legend meets horror to create a truly intense supernatural film. ‘Out of the Dark’ reinforces the idea that nothing good can come of burying a secret, which will always come back to haunt us. There are few things I find creepier than children in horror movies. The grotesque, deformed

Movie Review: ‘Killer Legends’ The Documentary (2014)

As I was surfing through the oceans of movies on Netflix Streaming, I came across ‘Killer Legends’ a documentary about some of the origins of some of the most popular Urban Legends, that have influenced the creation of some of our favorite horror movies. ‘Killer Legends’ was written and directed by Joshua Zeman. ‘Killer Legends’ investigates several legends, in detail by visiting the place where they originated, interviewing people tied to the events and researching police records. The film begins with the story of the couple on lovers lane who see a strange figure and drive away. When the couple stops they find a bloody hook hanging from the car’s door handle. The next investigation explores the “Phantom Murders” also known as “The Moonlight Murders”. In 1946 a series of brutal murders rocked the town Texarkana. Young couples parked on lover’s lanes began turning up dead. Most of the young women were raped before being brutally murdered by a man

Movie Review : The Atticus Institute (2015)

In 1966 a small lab is opened to study psychic abilities. When Judith (Rya Kihlstedt) joins the study in 1976, the scientists are astounded by her abilities. Soon the government seizes the facility, with the intent of weaponizing the woman, but they will get much more than they bargained for. This faux documentary film was written and directed by Chris Sparling and stars William Mapother (The Grudge) as Dr. Henry West, who opened the Atticus Institute. Julian Acosta (The Lords of Salem), Jake Carpenter (Alive), Brian Chenoweth (The Artist), Hannah Cowley (Get Him To The Greek) and Aaron Craven (The Day The Earth Stood Still) star along side ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ actor Carlos E. Campos. I am not a huge fan of “found footage”, but it suited ‘The Atticus Institute”. Actress Rya Kihlstedt (Dexter) did a fantastic job in her role as Judith. If you are expecting big CGI fx, you won’t find any in ‘The Atticus Institute’,but they accomplish

Jerry (Ryan Rynolds) is a lovable guy, he just happens to hear voices. Jerry navigates life with the help of his talking pets. Jerry’s dog is a sweetheart, but his cat is a dick. Mr. Whiskers wants Jerry to give in to his murderous instincts. Jerry has a big crush on Fiona (Gemma Arterton), a girl in the accounting department of the plant where he works, but when Fiona stands him up for a date, she sets off a series of events that ends with her head being kept in his refrigerator. ‘The Voices’ was directed by Marjane Satrapi and was written by Michael R. Perry. Anna Kendrick (Twilight) plays the role of Lisa, who has a bit of a crush of Jerry. ‘The Voices’ also stars Jacki Weaver (Stoker) and Ella Smith (Cinderella). This horror-comedy was fantastic. Jerry came across as charming but unhinged. The way the movie was shot was wonderful, from the way they showed Jerry’s environment
