Writer-Director P.J. Starks Reviews ‘The Predator’ For Horror Fuel

P.J. Starks, the man behind the Volumes of Blood franchise, a writer, director, and producer, has shared with us his review of The Predator, written and directed by Shane Black. Follow Volumes of Blood on Facebook to stay up to date on Stark’s upcoming sequel Volumes of Blood: Devil’s Knight. When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters’ return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race. When I first heard this film was being made by the same guys who conceived The Monster Squad, it was difficult not to be excited. A new movie from the creators of a beloved film from my childhood! One I’d watched a gazillion times. I had a nerdgasm to put it lightly, however, I did my best not to fanboy out and watch the film with unbiased eyes. The films set up is as simple as the

Movie Review: ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’

WARNING SPOILERS!!! This weekend I stood in a line that almost completely wrapped around the theater to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While I danced with excitement (literally) I looked around to see so many different generations of fans waiting to watch the film. It was heartwarming to see parents and kids, and even grandparents there rocking their dino themed gear. Let’s be honest, there are a few things we all expect from the Jurassic franchise, action, drama, and a whole lot of dinosaurs (the best part in my opinion), but the first part of Fallen Kingdom offered something else, heartbreak. As that island went up in smoke, ash, and lava, it took so many creatures with it. As the boat with those few saved sailed away we witnessed what might the most heartbreaking scene I have seen in a film in years, the island and animals being swallowed up. Just before Claire and Owen snuck onto the boat they

Movie Review: ‘Open Water 3: Cage Dive’ Stinks Worse Than Fish Bait

I will be the first to admit that I love anything that involves sharks, so I was excited when I learned that the next film of the Open Water franchise, titled Open Water 3: Cage Dive, was out on DVD. Written and directed by Gerald Rascionato, the film centers on a group of three friends, played by Josh Potthoff, Megan Hill, and Pete Valley, doing stunts to make an audition tape for a reality show. The group boards a shark cage diving tour in hopes of getting great footage for their audition. When a rogue wave takes out the boat they are left drifting in the shark-infested water. After night sets in they magically find an inflatable raft floating by with enough goodies to give them a fighting chance of getting rescued. But that doesn’t last long. My first issue with the movie is that there’s only one thing worse than found footage, found footage with terrible audio and this

Movie Review: Watch Over Us is a Demonic Flick You’ll Want to Possess

Watch Over Us opens with the thrill-a-minute action of a bald dude getting turned down for various jobs (he sucks at online dating too because I know you were wondering about that). As heart-stoppingly exciting as that is, we must move on…and we do, as our chrome-domed hero returns home (a dwelling that actually belongs to his invalid father) to eat dinner with his daughters…a dinner that is interrupted by otherworldly sounds and mini-tremors…an event we learn happens frequently. Anyway, the sinister shenanigans continue, but ol’ Daddy Nobucks refuses to move his ever freaked out girls the hell out in a shocking (and probably prosecutable given what’s to follow) case of bad parenting. Before long, the family calls in a priest to investigate the old barn on the property that appears to be the source of the disturbance and a family satanic secret is revealed! Watch Over Us is a real surprise of a fright flick. Utilizing minimalist effects, a

Review: ‘The Autopsy Of Jane Doe’ Is One Of The Best Horror Films Of The Year

Last night I settled in to finally watch a film that I have been waiting months to see, The Autopsy of Jane Doe and it was everything I had hoped it would be. The film opens with a father-son ending the autopsy of a burn victim which actually turned out to be an accidental death. Just as the son, Austin (Emile Hirsch), is leaving with his girlfriend the sheriff turns up with a body found mysteriously buried in the basement of two murder victims. Feeling obligated to help his father, Tommy (Brian Cox), Austin delays his date to help with the body. As they begin the autopsy on the Jane Doe (Olwen Catherine Kelly) they start to notice strange things about her body. Not only has her tongue been ripped out, she’s been violated with a knife, and her organs look like they belong to a victim burned in a fire. But strangely, her body is spotless and she looks

Review: ‘The Vault’ Is A Must See, Intense, Supernatural Tale Of Desperation

How far would you go to save the life of your brother or sister? If they were in trouble and owed some dangerous people a lot of money would you be willing to rob a bank to help them out? In Dan Bush’s The Vault, the Dillons, a group of siblings, team up to rob a bank, but that’s not as easy as it sounds. Played by Scott Haze (Midnight Special, interview), Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black), Francesca Eastwood (Final Girl), the Dillons and two associates, Keith Loneker (Outlaws and Angels) and Michael Milford (Deserted), are on a mission to steal enough cash to cover Michael’s (Haze) debts. Little do they know there is something inside the bank that is much more dangerous than the cops waiting outside. Once the Dillons have taken hostages and checked the cash drawers they learn that they are still short of their goal. That’s when one of the hostages (James Franco) tell

‘Clowntergeist’ Is Worth Checking Out

I had the opportunity to watch Aaron Mirtes’ horror film ‘Clowntergeist’. First things first, I enjoyed it. There were a few things in the film that hurt the movie a bit, but it is a good flick. I admit that I am a little done with the whole clown thing, but I would recommend this movie. Written by Director Aaron Mirtes and starring Brittany Belland, Aaron Mirtes, and Madeleine Heil. This fim follows Emma (Belland), a college student with a crippling fear of clowns, must come face to face with her worst fear when an evil spirit in the body of a clown terrorizes the small town she is living in for the summer. There were some really great things in the movie! Vile messages written on balloons that appeared out of nowhere were great and used exceptionally well. The demon speaking through the radio was a great thought. There were uses, and I loved it, of well-known urban myths

Film ‘The Answer’ Is A Surprisingly Great Thriller

One of my favorite parts about this job is the fact that here and there I get to watch movies that I would have otherwise been oblivious to. I love the fact that I get exposed to new directors, new actors, new plots and new movies before the lay audience. I admit, sometimes those movies I watch should have remained in oblivion, but that is not the case with Iqbal Ahmed’s thriller ‘The Answer’. The first item to address complaint about this film is the “Saw meets The Fugitive” tagline in the press release. I can get on board with it being akin to ‘The Fugitive’ but I didn’t really see any parallels or even allusions to ‘Saw’. That, however, is not a bad thing, but misleading. I found the film to be and they even squeezed in a little romance (but I’ll talk more about that last one later). I have actually found it somewhat difficult to do a

Yet Another TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Reboot Gets a Release Date

I love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There’s a good chance you love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In fact, I’d guess it would be pretty hard to find a horror fan that doesn’t love, or at least respect, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now all that being said, do we really need another reboot? Well the good folks over at Lionsgate apparently think so, because were getting reboot number four! As far as the poster goes I will say I hate the feeling of wet socks, although I’m still not sure a puddle and skinny shins were the right direction to take. The plot itself, set to follow a teenage Leatherface breaking out of an asylum and kidnapping a nurse, doesn’t excite me either. While part of me wonders a little if his masks ever get adolescent acne, mostly it’s just boring. After all, isn’t that what a hulking, cousin fucking cannibal in a skin mask needs; and in-depth examination of what
