Abbey Grace – Everything You’ve Already Seen in One, Fun Plot

Just finished watching Stephen Durham’s Abbey Grace and, although it isn’t a perfect movie, I definitely enjoyed watching it. The movie focuses on a sister (Debbie Sheridan) who returns to her childhood home to look after her agoraphobic brother (Jacob Hobbs). Both Sheridan and Hobbs offer convincing performances of the frustrations they feel and can’t seem to understand in each other. However, as the movie progressed, it became very clear why they got he leads as opposed to the other actors in the film. Invited to the house to observe Hobbs’ character, Amber Gallaway plays a renowned doctor who wasn’t necessarily a bad actress, but she seemed more like a giddy valley-girl in booty shorts as opposed to a highly touted professional. Semi Anthony, the exorcist, used an accent that was so muddles and off that I was waiting to know if he was joking or not….the film should have been a two- person cast. Aside from the downhill spiral

Movie Review – Tabloid Vivant is a Tale of Beautiful Torment

Tabloid Vivant Written and Directed by Kyle Broom Starring – Jesse Woodrow, Tamzin Brown, and Chris Carlisle To refer to Max Klinkau and Sara Speed as kindred spirits would be to make a gross understatement. They both seek notoriety, but don’t want to achieve it by way of the humdrum and conventional means that many are more than happy to accept. Max and Sara are striving for something truly unique. Max has developed a “system of painting” that will radically change the way people will view the classic art form, even in an age where digital art has gained prominence. Sara sees this as an incredibly fascinating concept, and is ecstatic to be tasked with writing a critique based on Max’s new style. They retreat to the seclusion of a house deep in the woods, which belongs to Max’s agent. He explains how the incorporation of an aspect of digital art into a classical form, such as painting on canvas

Ode to 80’s Horror: The Hellraiser Series

If you Google “80’s Horror”, one of the first movies that’s going to pop up is Clive Barker’s Hellraiser, along with it’s multiple (and extremely varying) sequels. Hellraiser is a Horror Film’s Horror Film. It’s a movie that any horror aficionado worth his or her salt knows and appreciates. Personally, it’s my favorite horror film (well- it’s really a three way tie between Hellraiser, Evil Dead 2, and Reanimator, but there’s time for that later.) so I couldn’t think of a better way to kick of this #Odeto80sHorror than by exploring Kirsty Cotton and her Cenobite counterparts. WHERE IT CAME FROM: The original 1987 Hellraiser film was an adapted from noted horror author Clive Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart (it’s a quick read; I highly recommend it.) Barker would also direct the 1987 film. The screenplay adapts a romantic relationship into a father/daughter relationship, and our heroine, the young and scrappy Kirsty Cotton (played by a young Ashley Lawrence) ,

Road to Death House Part 2

I’ve attended a lot of Hollywood meetings. Creative. Business. Social. In every one of these, ideas and projects get thrown around. People get excited. Plans are made. I usually wait until the very end to ask the most important question. If it is not mentioned up front, you kind of have your answer, but it’s a game in the end to see if you’re as smart as you think you are. That question is: Is the financing in place? You get either leaden silence as if you committed some grave social faux pas, or you get the “well, we are talking to so and so…” Translated: there is no money. Don’t believe the Hollywood fables of making a film for $15,000 and making $400 million. With all legends there is a grain of truth, but like an oyster makes a pearl, it’s slathered with layers of mucus and shit. No, your $7000 movie is not going to make a million.

“Evil Souls” Horror Movie Review

“Evil Souls” is a 2015 horror film that was directed by Maurizio del Piccolo and Roberto del Piccolo. They both worked on another horror movie back in 2011 called “The Hounds”. The antagonist of “Evil Souls” is named Valentine who is played by Peter Cosgrove. He is known for the recent film “Grainne Uaile” and the two upcoming movies “Dalriata’s King” and “Wonderland”. The protagonist of the film is named Father Albert played by Julian Boote who is known for his parts in The Killing Zone, Dead Room and Mesocafé. The movie is working with a low budget but the practical effects are great considering that fact. “Evil Souls” relies on what the new French wave of horror has popularized and that’s what I supposed is referred to as “disturbing” or “shock gore”. Some of the shock scenes in this film were reminiscent of one of my favorite movies of all time: “Martyrs”. “Evil Souls” has a way lower budget

Movie Review: Stung (2015)

Mrs. Perch (Eve Slantner), a wealthy woman with a green thumb, has been putting her special illegally imported fertilizer on her precious plants. She has no idea that the special fertilizer has been seeping into the ground and that a swarm of killer wasps have made their hive right in the path of the chemicals. The new generation of wasps are mutating into seven foot monsters. During a party for Mrs. Perch’s elite group of friends, suddenly the giant wasps appear and they’re on the war path. It’s up to Paul (Matt O’Leary) and Julia (Jessica Cook), two of the catering staff, Mrs. Perch’s son, played by Clifton Collins Jr. (Pacific Rim) and a local politician (Lance Henriksen) to save themselves from the giant mutant wasps. I wasn’t sure just what to expect from this creature feature that was directed by Benni Diez and written by Adam Aresty. I was pleasantly surprised. ‘Stung’ has that distinct feel, reminiscent of those

A Review Of 2014’s Horror Movie ‘Creep’

Actor Mark Duplass (The League) and Patrick Brice, who directed ‘Wolf Creek’, wrote and starred in the 2014 horror thriller ‘Creep’. ‘Creep’ was also directed by Brice. In ‘Creep’ Aaron (Brice) is hired by Josef (Duplass) to make a video diary after answering a Craig’s List Ad. Josef has brain cancer and wants to make the video for his unborn son. We find out later in the movie that there is no son and no cancer. Josef is just a weird, mentally unstable man. As Aaron tries to leave Josef tries to delay him every way he can think of. Finally Aaron is able to flee, but soon begins to receive strange gifts and DVDs from Josef, but things just continue to get creepier. At the end of the movie we learn the truth about Josef and that Aaron is not his only victim. There was a lot of hype about ‘Creep’ prior to it’s release, but honestly I was

A Look At The Australian Short Film ‘Waterborne’

‘Waterborne’, an Australian short film tells the story of a ranger, who is out testing the water supply of a small Australian town. The ranger is forced to stop his truck on an empty dark road, to keep from hitting a kangaroo in his path. Suddenly the ranger is under attack by a crazed beast that is carrying a deadly zombie virus. This award winning 2014 short film was written by Richard Barcaricchio and Ryan Coonan, who also directed the film. The cast includes Chris Bland, Martin Blum and Don Bridges. ‘Waterborne’ is a nice short film with a unique idea. The special effects were nicely executed and the cast played their parts well. Personally, I would like to see ‘Waterborne’ as a full length feature. Be sure to follow ‘Waterborne’ on Twitter and visit their website waterbornemovie.com . https://vimeo.com/130401504

Movie Review: ‘The Occupants’ (2014)

Lucy’s life seems pretty nice, she has a caring husband, a beautiful baby and a new home. She seems to have it all, until her and her husband, Wade, begin to see the spirits of a man, his wife and daughter. Lucy wants to help the family, but when she and Wade begin to be physically attacked, she doesn’t know what to do except to protect her baby. Nothing in this movie is what it seems. When everything comes to light in the last fifteen minutes of the ‘The Occupants’ , it makes you question everything you have seen in the entire movie, it’s a psychological twist you won’t see coming. I was very impressed with Cristin Milioti’s (The Wolf of Wall Street) portrayal of the main role of Lucy. Michael Rady (J. Edgar) plays the role of supporting husband. Holly Golden and Todd Alcott, who also directed, did a great job of creating a nice movie. The action and
