Blu-ray Review: The Ringmaster (2018)

Seemingly all of Denmark is balls deep into the finals of the nondescript European Championships. Speaking of “games”, our heroine, the studious Agnes (Anne Bergfeld), is hoping for an easy night at the gas station in which she works… since everyone should be home watching feet colliding with balls, as previously established, but wouldn’t you just know it, things become a bit more hectic for our heroine and her co-worker, Belinda (Karin Michelsen) as they soon find themselves besieged by intense folks coming through those damned doors all night long… and as is so often the case, Agnes soon finds herself at the (not so) tender mercies of a sadistic, greasepaint adorned Ringmaster (Damon Younger) and his torture-porn emporium! DVD Review: Incarnation (2016)

Down Serbia way, a dude keeps doing the wakey-wakey bag in town square and immediately gets ventilated by a mysterious cadre of well-dressed masked gunman. Then he wakes up and has to do that shit over, and over, and even mother fuckin’ over, and peep this, he gets closer to solving the mystery of his demise with each go around! Making good use of that aforementioned square (although our hero gets further away with each dose of the ol’ murder biz, we always go back to that central location), Incarnation, the debut feature from Filip Kovacevic (who also co-wrote the film with Masa Senicic and Ivan Senicic) is a tense, fast-paced mystery that will have your ass on the eerie edge of your seat from start to finish! Sure we’ve seen flicks like this before (Groundhog Day immediately comes to mind… though that one is a damn sight lighter than this nail-biter), but this picture has so many interesting angles

Movie Review: Werewolves Within (2021)

It’s a fact, horror-comedies are hit and miss, most often, they’re a miss. But every once in a while, one nails it, think Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil and Shaun of the Dead. I am happy to report that I have come across a movie that should be added to that list, Werewolves Within. I can definitely see it becoming a quick classic. From director Josh Ruben and writer Mishna Wolff (LOL Wolff, how appropriate.) comes a twisted tale of a small, secluded town that is about to find itself at the mercy of a beast. Finn, the new forest ranger arrives in town and soon he and the new postal worker, Cecily, find themselves locked in a house filled with insane neighbors who are all trying to survive a brutal killer, a werewolf. Blu-ray Review: Years Of Lead: Five Classic Italian Crime Thrillers 1973-1977

Coming from a period of massive social upheaval in 1970’s Italy, the “Years of Lead” as they were called, inspired filmmakers of the time to dip their toes in all-manner brutal crime pictures (the poliziotteschi genre), and our fine fiends at Arrow Video have collected some of them in the aptly named Years of Lead collection, a series of five films on Blu-ray that represent the era to a “T”! First up comes 1975’s Savage Three which concerns Turin-based computer programmer Ovidio (Joe Dallesandro), and his two pals Peppi (Guido Di Carli) and Giacomo (Gianfranco De Grassi); a trio of bored-ass mother fuckers that aren’t above starting a soccer riot, stealing a car, and riding folks down if they like their wheels better… ya know, just for kicks! Fred Wilson (played to the scenery chewing ultimate by the late Charles Grodin), an executive douche-nozzle of the Petrox Oil Company, believes a mysterious and uncharted island, surrounded by a permanent bank of thick-ass fog (official meteorologist lingo), may be the source of a huge oil deposit, and sets sail with a full crew at his disposal. Shock Docs has a history of putting out the best documentaries on frightening subjects such as the real stories from everything from the Amityville murders to documentaries about legendary killers like Ed Gein. They’re back again, this time with a documentary exploring the true story that inspired The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do it which just opened in theaters and premiered on HBO Max. Shock Docs: The Devil Made Me Do It dives deep into the true story of the case of Arne Johnson, who murdered his landlord and used the possession defense in court for the first time in American history. Arne Johnson’s (played in The Conjuring 3 by Ruairi O’Connor) experience with the supernatural began when his girlfriend and her family moved into a new house. Movie Review: The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

The third installment of The Conjuring Franchise, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, has now opened in theaters and landed on HBO Max. Here’s what I think. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return to their roles as the famous real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, which explores the real store of Arne Johnson, which marked the first time in U.S. history that used a demonic possession as a defense in a real murder trial. Consider this your warning, there are mild spoilers ahead. While we’ve known about the film’s plot for a while now, there were surprises in store for fans with many aspects of the story (both real and created) kept under wraps, such as the curse. It’s not just another boy meets dino love story in Primal, the latest from animation genius Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack). Spear (Aaron LaPlante) is a caveman striding the primordial byways of ol’ planet Earth ‘round back the dawn of evolution, when he encounters Fang… a carnivorous dinosaur on his way out (via extinction ‘natch). The two just so happen to share a common enemy… a pack of prehistoric predators pulled a murder on both of their respective families… and soon become fast friends. The deadly duo then hoof it from one violence smothered scenario to the next, laying a serious ass whippin’ on all manner of monsters, dinosaurs, and evil cults. Excessive bloodletting ensues! Now, what would you say if I told you that all of the above spills n’ chills transpire without a single word uttered? Crazy right?
