After an uproarious intro from the Mistress of the Dark herself, we dive right into the meat and potatoes (and what potatoes they are) of Elvira’s Haunted Hills; her second frightful feature film (following 1988’s Elvira: Mistress of the Dark) now available on Blu-ray thanks to those delicious devils o’er at Scream Factory! Dan Potter (The A-Team‘s Howlin’ Mad Murdock himself, Dwight Schultz in a milquetoast turn) has recently taken a job as a doctor in Dr. Leo Bain’s (Halloween‘s Donald Pleasence) unorthodox lunatic asylum called the Haven. Picture it, France, 1764 a giant beast stalks the lands of Gévaudan and gives zero fucks when it comes to eating women and children. Enter: the knight Grégoire de Fronsac, (Samuel Le Bihan), the royal naturalist of King Louis XV of France, and his Iroquois/Mohawk martial-artist companion Mani (Mark Dacascos, who’s been in a ton of great stuff, but you doubtless know him as the host of Iron Chef America) two dudes hellbent on figuring out the exact nature of the beast… a beast all who have glimpsed it swear is a giant wolf! Schoolteacher Johnny Smith (Christopher Walken) has it tough; he’s been comatose for nigh on five years after a surprisingly milk-related car crash, and as soon as he wakes up he discovers his gal-pal Sarah (Brooke Adams) has shacked up with another dude, and he’s developed the ability to tell things about people’s lives by merely touching their hand. That had to be the milk’s fault… Now you may guess that Johnny would keep this new ability to himself, but he doesn’t… it’s just public knowledge our hero can do this amazing ass shit… so naturally folks begin showing up asking for all sorts of freaky favors like finding the local serial killer, or tutoring the young son of a wealthy fat-cat… well, that last part doesn’t have much to do with his arcane abilities, but it is his day job… until it isn’t because of those pesky powers. Movie Review: Hail to the Deadites (2020)

Just to let you know where you stand with Hail to the Deadites, this film is made by Evil Dead fans for Evil Dead fans… so expect a particular level of diabolical deep-divin’ and outre obsession here boils n’ ghouls! To wit: through the course of this here documentary we follow the exploits of individuals that are so deeply in love with Evil Dead that they create their nuptials around it, dress up as series hero Ash (Bruce Campbell… who appears in this flick throughout), and basically spend a fuckin’ fortune to scoop up any and all pieces of Evil Dead ephemera, including materials used in the films themselves! The entire thing is, as you may surmise filled to the brim with nothin’ but a heapin’ helpin’ of heart; these folks are presented honestly and are incredibly open about the space the franchise occupies in their lives. Blu-ray Review: House of Wax (2005)

Six incredibly good-looking young folks are on their way to a football game, but they get sleepy and shit, so they camp out under the stars… where they encounter the ultimate evil! I’m just fucking with you… rather they rough it for a night, and the next morning they discover their car has shit the bed. A quick journey into the nearby town of Ambrose courtesy of a local yokel, where certainly a garage or service station will have them back on the road in no time! Well, that would be the case if anyone actually lived there. You see, Ambrose is complete Tumbleweedsville, minus the one structure that does seem to have a sign of life, the eponymous House of Wax… a dread domicile packed to the rafters with wax figures that seem just a tad too realistic! Fred Wilson (played to the scenery chewing ultimate by the late Charles Grodin), an executive douche-nozzle of the Petrox Oil Company, believes a mysterious and uncharted island, surrounded by a permanent bank of thick-ass fog (official meteorologist lingo), may be the source of a huge oil deposit, and sets sail with a full crew at his disposal. But alas, the crew is not all that’s aboard, as primate paleontologist Jack Prescott (a mega-laid back Jeff Bridges… yes, I know that’s can go without saying… ) has stowed away on the vessel, and he has all manner of historical accounts of the island they are heading to es no bueno… oh, and that fog mentioned up yonder may be caused by the breath of a giant creature. Dr. William Weir (Sam Neill) is brought on board the Lewis and Clark, a deep space rescue vessel under the command of the no-nonsense Captain Miller (the legendary Laurence Fishburne); the mission at hand: explore the Event Horizon… a ship (shaped like a massive crucifix no less) Weir designed that went missing near a black hole seven years prior… before mysteriously re-appearing, which 9 out of 10 dentists will agree “es no bueno”. Scream Factory’s soon to be released found-footage horror The Widow gives off a serious Blair Witch (2016) vibe in its new trailer. Folk Horror Film ‘The Pond’ Leaves A Man Questioning His Sanity

This February, Scream Factory and Shout! Studios will release their mind-bending new folk horror film The Pond. Directed by Petar Pasic, the film is set in a Balkin Village filled with supernatural dread. The story centers on an anthropologist on the verge of an apocalyptic discovery who begins to descend into madness, as his hallucinations reveal something sinister is after him. Marco Canadea, Leslie Kunz, and Paul Murray star in the film, written by Dusan Bulic which is described as “deeply unsettling.” The Pond lands on Digital and On Demand on February 23, 2021.
