Movie Review: Lake of Death (2019)

Lillian (Iben Akerlie) just can’t get her missing bro Bjørn (Patrick Walshe McBride) off her mind… so much so that she keeps seeing visions of his ass while her and her vacuous pals plop their asses down in that hoary ol’ horror biz chestnut; the isolated cabin in the woods. Along with that, bizarre-ass shit keeps going on that causes that gaggle o’ goofs to start blaming each other for the outre happenings… though something more sinister and supernatural may be to blame! Based on the 1958 fright flick from Norwegian director Kåre Bergstrøm (itself an adaption of Andre Bjerke’s 1942 novel of the same name); writer/director Nini Bull Robsahm’s film updates the tale, while adding a stylish flourish that looks tight as fuck (thanks to Robsahm’s eye as well as the work of cinematographer Axel Mustad and editor Bob Murawski)… but there a few bumps on this joltin’ journey boils n’ ghouls. For one, this flick is by-the-numbers Hollywood

Shudder Original ‘Impetigore’ Premieres Later This Month

Writer-director Joko Anwar’s hit horror film Impetigore (aka Perempuan Tanah Jahanam) is set to premiere on Shudder later this month. In the film, Maya with her best friend, Dini, tries to survive in a city without a family. She realized that she might inherit property from her rich family. Maya returns to the village with Dini and unaware of the danger was waiting for her. Joko Anwar is a master of modern horror, and Satan’s Slaves is one of the most loved — and scariest — movies on Shudder. We couldn’t wait to work with him again and are thrilled to share his scary, visceral and darkly sinister Impetigore with Shudder members,” said Craig Engler, Shudder’s General Manager. Impetigore is my love letter to horror movies I grew up with, slashers, ghost stories, wrapped in a tragic family drama not unlike my family. I’m excited to be working again with Shudder to bring Impetigore to their members around the world,”

Watch The Brutal Red Band Trailer For Shudder’s ‘Random Acts Of Violence’

A cult-hit in the making, Jay Baruchel’s long-anticipated Random Acts of Violence, adapted from the popular 2010 horror graphic novel by the same name, is a force to reckon with. The Canadian filmmaker and actor, best known for his comedic bow in This is the End and as the voice of Hiccup in the How to Train Your Dragon series, has long been committed to bringing Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s brutal pages to the big screen, and wrote, directed, produced and stars in the upcoming film. The brand new Red Band trailer teases a bloody and brutal film that explores ideas of legitimizing cruelty, the responsibility of the artist, and what makes a monster in society. Masterfully lensed by award-winning cinematographer Karim Hussain (Hobo With a Shotgun, Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor), the film holds a ferocious mirror up to art, society, and violence. What are the real consequences when life begins to imitate art? Comic book creator Todd Walkley (Jesse

Movie Review: The Beach House (2019)

Emily and Randall, two outrageously attractive young people (portrayed by Liana Liberato and Noah Le Gros respectively) flee ye olde rat race to vacay at a beach house owned by Randall’s kith and kin. Sound relaxin’ amirite cats n’ creeps? Well it ain’t, because another couple, Jane (Maryanne Nagel) and Mitch (Jake Weber), have parked their asses there as well. Despite their gaps in age, the two couples shoot the shit, ingest some edibles… just normal gettin’ to know ya bullshit. Speaking of normal, nearly every event that happens after that point is decidedly not that thing, as a mysterious fog envelopes the island bringing with it rapidly mutating sea life, alien pods, and some good ol’ body horror; as those that breathe deep on the island begin to undergo unearthly transformations! The Beach House could best be described as Cronenberg by way of Lovecraft, but with a faux modern coat of paint. Now, let’s focus on that “faux” part

This Summer An Infection Breaks Out In ‘The Beach House’ Trailer

The feature directorial debut from Jeffrey A. Brown, The Beach House is a striking and timely eco-horror that offers up an alluring mix of claustrophobic isolation, mysterious contagion, and dreamy seaside setting in which A romantic getaway turns into a struggle for survival when unexpected guests – and eventually the environment – exhibit signs of a mysterious infection. Featuring a show-stealing lead performance from Liana Liberato, the film also stars Noah Le Gros (A Score To Settle), Jake Weber (Dawn of the Dead [2004], Meet Joe Black) and Maryann Nagel. Escaping to his family’s beach house to reconnect, Emily and Randall find their off-season trip interrupted by Mitch and Jane Turner, an older couple acquainted with Randall’s estranged father. Unexpected bonds form as the couples let loose and enjoy the isolation, but it all takes an ominous turn as increasingly strange environmental phenomena begin to warp their peaceful evening. As the effects of an infection become evident, Emily struggles to

Movie Review: Yummy

Belgian zombie movie Yummy knows what it is — a gore-spattered romp light on originality but heavy on action — and delivers its splatter-filled contents with a cleverness and some dark humor that lifts it above the pack of also-rans in the living dead genre of cinema. Though the film never quite goes all in on trying to induce belly laughs, it has a wicked edge to it and is ultimately a fun thrill ride. Alison (Maaike Neuville) is a young woman who wants to get breast reduction surgery because her current F-cup size leads to copious unwanted attention. Her mother Sylvia (Annick Christiaens) accompanies her to also get some work done, and Alison’s boyfriend Michael (Bart Hollanders) — a former medical student who dropped out because he is afraid of blood — volunteers to drive them to an Eastern European plastic surgery clinic. As the ladies are being prepped for their surgeries, Michael makes a horrifying discovery, which quickly

Scripts For Season 3 Of “Creepshow” Ordered Ahead Of Season 2 Premiere

Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, announced today that it has commissioned scripts for a full third season of “Creepshow“, showrunner and executive produced by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) and based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie. The bad news is that the second season will be delayed. It was set to commence shooting in March in Atlanta, Georgia, but has been on hold until film and television production resumes, whenever that may be. The anthology series shattered all Shudder records when it debuted last October, and its first season has just concluded a successful run on AMC. Creepshow continues to be near and dear to my heart and having the opportunity to continue the legacy by developing season 3 gives me the chance to work with some of the best storytellers and artists in the business. The stories we have in the pipeline for season 2 are even more outrageous, more

Review: Scare Package

Fear-fare anthology Scare Package combines satirical meta takes on horror movie tropes and delivers a fair share of laughs and grins along with a heaping helping of crackerjack practical gore effects. As might be expected with most portmanteau features, a couple of segments slow things down a bit, but for the most part, the film is a fun effort that tends to dig deeper for its laughs than most horror-trope send-ups. “Cold Open” establishes the tone for the omnibus, as Mike Myers (Jon Michael Simpson) dreams of having more to do in life than merely being the character who sets up the frights to come. Writer/director Emily Hagins delivers a wry take on events and Simpson delivers a solid comical performance. “Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium” serves as a wrap-around for the segments that follow and a lead-in to the final segment; both are directed by Aaron B. Koontz (Camera Obscura). Chad (Jeremy King in a solid comic performance) runs an
