Shudder has now released the horror-comedy Scare Me, the feature debut of writer-director Josh Ruben, to get you in the mood for Halloween. In the film, Fred (Josh Ruben, CollegeHumor), a frustrated copywriter, checks into a winter cabin to start his first novel. While jogging in the nearby woods, he meets Fanny (Aya Cash, “You’re The Worst” “The Boys”), a successful and smug young horror author who fuels his insecurities. During a power outage, Fanny challenges Fred to tell a scary story. As a storm sets in, they pass the time spinning spooky tales fueled by the tensions between them, and Fred is forced to confront his ultimate fear: Fanny is the better storyteller. The stakes are raised when they’re visited by a horror fan (Chris Redd, “Saturday Night Live”) who delivers levity (and a pizza) to the proceedings. “About the pleasures and perils of storytelling and the genre’s power to exorcise social demons, Scare Me is a clever and

Movie Review: Spiral (2019)

Things aren’t exactly salad and cream (that’s a thing that’s good, right?) for Malik (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman) and his partner Aaron (Ari Cohen) who move to the ultra-suburbs with A-dawgs teenage daughter Kayla (Jennifer Laporte). Being the 1990’s and all, the townsfolk are not exactly hip to the same-sex couple bag, though they hide it well… but not well enough to keep Malik from slip sliding away into paranoid delusions… or are they? Yeah, this one is a bit of the ol’ mind fuck cats n’ creeps! Director Kurtis David Harder and screenwriters Colin Minihan and John Poliquin have created one hell of a potent combo of social commentary and full-on horror biz. Firstly, our protagonists are so likable that we just know things are going to go tits up for them in the worst possible way, and boy howdy do they fucking ever! Cohen and Chapman make for a believable couple, and no matter how much we want hings to

First Details Revealed As Production Begins On Season 2 Of “Creepshow”

Shudder, has now announced the start of production on the highly-anticipated second season of its hit series “Creepshow” in Atlanta, Georgia. The anthology series, which shattered all Shudder records when it debuted last October, is executive produced by showrunner Greg Nicotero (“The Walking Dead“) and is based on George A. Romero’s iconic 1982 movie. I’ve never been happier to get behind the camera as I am today. After missing our shoot date in March by just over 48 hours, season 2 of Creepshow hits the ground running as cameras begin to roll. The cast and crew have a level of excitement and enthusiasm I’ve never seen before and it’s inspiring. So many of us in the entertainment industry have been waiting for the day we can begin to do what we do best—to have some fun together creating new worlds, new adventures and new thrills,” said Nicotero. The American Dream Turns Into A Nightmare In Shudder’s ‘Spiral’ (Trailer)

The American dream turns into a nightmare in Kurtis David Harder’s (Summerland, Incontrol) Spiral, a horror film for the current age, Spiral, which skillfully dissects themes of ostracization, otherness, and the cycles of societal rejection and hate, led by a breakout performance by Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Check out the new intense trailer. In the film, “Malik (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, “American Horror Story”, “Canada’s Drag Race)” and Aaron (Ari Cohen, IT: Chapter II) move to a small town in search of a better environment for them and their 16-year-old daughter (Jennifer Laporte, Web of Dreams). But nothing is as it seems as something sinister lies behind the picturesque homes and welcoming faces of their new neighbors (Lochlyn Munro, CW’s “Riverdale”).” Also starring Ty Wood and Chandra Wes, the film was written by Colin Minihan (writer of the Shudder Original Z and the upcoming new Urban Legend) and John Poliquin (Selfie). Spiral is produced by Minihan, Harder, and John Poliquin for Digital Interference, the

‘Z’ Director Brandon Christenson Talks Terror & Imaginary Friends In Our Interview

One of the best indie horror films of 2020 is writer-director Brandon Christenson‘s Z which premiered on Shudder earlier this year. The film, which we scored as a 5 out of 5 in our review, is haunting and downright unnerving. Of course, when I had the opportunity to pick Christenson’s brain I couldn’t resist. The film, co-written by Colin Minihan, follows a family whose son has become dangerous. He blames everything on his invisible friend Z, but it doesn’t take long for Elizabeth, the mother (Keegan Connor Tracy), to come to the realization that Z may very well be real. Once she realizes that her son is being influenced by a dark entity she reaches out to a psychiatrist played by Stephen McHattie, leading it to be revealed that she’s faced the entity before. Christenson made waves in the genre before Z was released with his 2017 breakout film Still/Born which follows a new mother who lost one of her

Blu-Ray Review: “Z” Scores A 5/5 !

I reviewed Shudder’s Z back in May, so of course, I was excited to get my hands on the Blu-ray a couple of days ago. As I sat down to watch it with a bag of popcorn, I couldn’t help but wonder if the movie would stand up to my original impression and the 5/5 score I gave it. I was wrong to even question it. It turns out, the Blu-ray is even better. The picture is crisp and the sound is great. The story itself is fresh, clever, and absolutely unnerving. A lot of people had an imaginary friend as a kid. Imagine if that friend came back when you were an adult and it is hell-bent on destroying your life by using your innocent child. That’s the premise of Z. The movie follows Elizabeth (Keegan Connor Tracy), a mother whose 8-year-old son has a new playmate, an invisible friend named Z. As her son’s behavior becomes more menacing
