Late last year we told you that Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead) will be producing a new version of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Today, Variety reports that Legendary has found its directors as well as their writer. The Dig directing duo of Ryan and Andy Tohill will be directing the reboot written by Chris Thomas Devlin (Cobweb). The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” Alvarez said in a statement. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.” Reportedly, Legendary will use the reboot to jump-start a new franchise. The 1974 classic launched a franchise that has seen sequels, reboots, remakes and the 2017 prequel Leatherface. The big question is will it be connected to the original?

Back in September, we reported that Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe) had signed on to produce Legendary’s upcoming reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Today, Deadline confirms that Alvarez and his writing partner Rodo Sayagues are officially on board to write, develop, and produce several projects for Legendary under their Bad Hombre Films banner. That deal includes The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. Newcomer Chris Thomas Devlin will pen the script for the reboot of the 1974 original. We’ll keep you posted.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise has featured prequels, sequels, remakes and now it’s getting another movie. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Evil Dead director Fede Álvarez is attached to produce and is currently hunting for a director for the movie. But that’s not all, Kim Henkel, who co-wrote and produced the 1974 original and directed its sequel is set to produce as well. At the moment there are no details about the film’s plot, but BD is reporting the Legendary has its eye on a direct sequel to the original. Álvarez did a fantastic job with his version of Evil Dead. With his and Henkel’s involvement in the new movie I believe it has a lot of potential to be a great film. We’ll keep you posted.

Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell is set to be unleashed on September 16th. Ahead of the premiere, I had the pleasure of sitting down with horror icon Bill Moseley, who first played the role of the brutal badass Otis Firefly in House of 1,000 Corpses back in 2003. Moseley took on Otis again in the second film of the trilogy, The Devil’s Rejects. Now, Moseley is back in 3 From Hell. Zombie’s bloody trilogy follows the Firefly family, Otis, Baby (Sheri Moon Zombie), Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) and Winslow (Richard Brake) as the slash their way out of prison and hit the road on the run. Moseley gave me insight into who Otis really is, how he thinks, and how he became the iconic character with a taste for bloodshed. He also reminded me that while Otis is a bad man he does have a good side, he will do anything to protect his family. Horror Fuel: “I saw 3

Last October Lionsgate unleashed Leatherface, a prequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic The Chainsaw Massacre. Now, news has come that a new series based on the original and more films for the franchise are now in the works over at Legendary Pictures. While that news is very exciting on its own, Bloody-Disgusting is speculating that a new shared universe may happen. How? Legendary is close to signing a new distribution deal with Warner Bros., who happens to be the parent company of New Line Cinema, who is over the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. While the rights to Friday the 13th are currently involved in a lawsuit, if nothing comes of it the rights will return to, you guessed it, New Line in 2019. That could possibly put Leatherface, Freddy, and Jason in the same vicinity. A show, more films, and a shared universe? Yes, please. Would you like to see more of Leatherface? We’ll let you know when we learn

At this point the “Texas Chainsaw” franchise’s continuity feels like taking a hammer to the head. Multiple reboots, direct sequels to earlier films that had previously been rebooted, timelines that Doc Brown and Marty couldn’t figure out; the entire series is an absolute mess, and one of rapidly decaying quality to boot. “Leatherface”, the franchise’s most recent installment, holds a paltry 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. Perhaps it’s not all that surprising then (if not a little distressing) that the next film in the series will be rebooted yet again, if a tweet from actress Christa Campbell is correct. “I loved this film and I’m very proud,” said Campbell. “Unfortunately because of the time it took to release it we lost the rights sadly. So no, at least not from us.” Maybe the next team will finally get the chainsaw revved up and roaring. I’d hate to see this franchise die with a sputter.

I love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There’s a good chance you love The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In fact, I’d guess it would be pretty hard to find a horror fan that doesn’t love, or at least respect, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Now all that being said, do we really need another reboot? Well the good folks over at Lionsgate apparently think so, because were getting reboot number four! As far as the poster goes I will say I hate the feeling of wet socks, although I’m still not sure a puddle and skinny shins were the right direction to take. The plot itself, set to follow a teenage Leatherface breaking out of an asylum and kidnapping a nurse, doesn’t excite me either. While part of me wonders a little if his masks ever get adolescent acne, mostly it’s just boring. After all, isn’t that what a hulking, cousin fucking cannibal in a skin mask needs; and in-depth examination of what
