Drew Barrymore is a busy lady. Not only is she the star of Netflix’s series ‘Santa Clarita Diet’, she is gearing up to deliver a new horror anthology to The CW. The series, titled ‘Black Rose’, is currently in development from Flower Films, according to Deadline.
The series will be both written and directed by women with Barrymore serving as a producer. The pilot episode of ‘Black Rose’ will be penned by Jill Blotevogel who is the former co-showrunner of MTV’s ‘Scream: The TV Series’.
The series will explore “some of humanity’s deepest fears from a woman’s unique perspective. Classic themes of terror will be tackled via vignettes about guilt, jealousy, repression, paranoia, insanity, sexual obsession and survival through a modern and distinctly feminine lens.”
For many years the male dominated film and television industry has been run by men who often miss the value of a real woman’s perspective. Hopefully, ‘Black Rose’ will bring a much-needed sense of realness to the characters and storyline.
