Most every horror fan remembers the 2007 cult classic anthology ‘Trick ‘r Treat’, that starred Dylan Baker (Selma), Anna Paquin (True Blood), Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity) and Leslie Bibb (Iron Man), among others. The movie follows Sam, a spirit of Halloween, so to speak, who ties the movies sections together. Now it appears, ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ is finally getting it’s sequel.
On October 28, 2013 Beyond Fest’s held a screening of Michael Dougherty’s ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ at the Egyptian Theater. During the panel section of the event Sam delivered a note saying “Make a sequel.” to Michael Dougherty. Dickson stated “Dougherty says it’s not his call…it’s Thomas Tull from Legendary’s call.” Tull stood up in the audience and proclaimed “I can’t say no to Sam. Let’s make a sequel!“. At that moment a banner with “Trick ‘r Treat 2” appeared on the screen and the crowd went wild.
Dougherty later made a statement about the sequel, “I think well shake it up a little bit,” Dougherty continues “There are different archetypes Id like to explore, different types of monsters. We covered werewolves, vampires, and zombies, but theres a whole slew of different creatures out there that we havent tackled, and I think Sam would probably be pretty good buddies with. So I think its time to let them have their time in the sun.”
The buzz is, ‘Trick ‘r Treat 2’ will be released in late 2015 or early 2016. The cast for part 2 has not been announced as of yet, but we will give an update as soon as we know more.
‘Trick ‘r Treat’ is also getting it’s own graphic novel series, which will be released this October. The graphic novels will be written by Andreyko with art by Stuart Sayger and Stephen Byrne. Dougherty had this to say about the comic: “I’ve been having way too much fun working with Legendary and the rest of my team bringing the ancient legend of Krampus to the big screen, and I look forward to expanding the film’s dark Christmas mythology onto the comic page. And hopefully the fans who’ve been patiently waiting for Trick ‘r Treat 2 will enjoy this deeper peek into Sam’s world until he finally rises from the pumpkin patch once more.”
