While it’s been rumored that the original Ghostbusters will be returning for the new movie, nothing has been 100% confirmed. What do we know is that the movie will be passing the torch to a new generation. According to the audition tapes dug up by HN Entertainment, the new Ghostbusters will be kids.
One of the kids to have landed a major role is 12-year-old actress Sarah Abbott. When they said young, they meant it. It sounds like they are taking a note from the “Stranger Things” playbook.
Director Jason Reitman has teased a few details about the movie.
I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbusters fan when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set. I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans,” the publication quoted Reitman as saying. “This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ’80s happened in the ’80s, and this is set in the present day.” Reitman said.
The Juno/Tully director co-wrote the script for Ghostbusters III with Gil Kenan (Monster House) and is aiming to start filming this summer. The movie will open in theaters in 2020.
