Over 2021 we saw the return of several horror franchises and 2022 holds more of the same with a new Texas Chainsaw movie and the upcoming Hellraiser movie from Hulu, just to name a few. But we are here to talk about the latter. Here’s everything we know about Hulu’s Hellraiser.

The Director And The Writer

First off, the movie, currently filming in Belgrade, is being directed by David Brucker who also directed The Night House. David S. Goyer who brought us Blade and The Dark Knight penned the script.

Back in August of 2021, Brucker described the film as “something of a small reimaging” of Clive Barker’s novella “The Hellbound Heart” which the franchise is based on, during an interview with SFX Magazine.

But it is something that we are actively working towards, and it is a joy and a dream for a filmmaker like myself to dive into that world. All I’ll say is that we are aiming to be as true as we can to the original material. [Clive Barker’s original story] ‘The Hellbound Heart’ is also a primary source of inspiration, as well as the original film. But then it is something of a small reimagining and we are currently working on it.”

The Cast

The New Pinhead Was Almost A Drag Queen. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Gottmik appeared in the Season 13 finale as a version of Pinhead. When producers of the upcoming film saw the footage of Gottmik, they immediately called him in for an audition to play the iconic role. Gottmik didn’t get the part though, instead, the role went to Jamie Clayton.

Jamie Clayton (“The L Word: Generation Q”) stars as the new Pinhead, this time a female. For those of you who are upset by this, if you look back at Barker’s story, it never describes Pinhead as specifically a male. Boom! comics have also depicted Pinhead as female several times and she looked pretty badass.

Goran Visnjic (The Boys), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Drew Starkey (Outer Banks), Hiam Abbass (Succession), Adam Faison (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), and Aoife Hinds (Normal People) will also star.

We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
