The new Scream sequel continues to add to its cast, with the latest being Dermot Mulroney. While several Scream franchise stars will be returning, one of the franchise’s biggest stars, Neve Campbell, who plays Sydney, will not be back, Deadline reports.
Campbell has now revealed why she won’t be reprising her role.
“Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film. As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” the actress says about her turn in the $744M-plus grossing global franchise, “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,” adds Campbell.
There is no word how much Campbell was offered, but is it really a Scream movie without her? As well as the last movie did, bringing in over $140 million, you would think there would be enough in the budget to keep the franchise’s biggest star.
The survivors from this year’s movie that are reprising their roles include Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, and franchise star Courtney Cox and Hayden Panettiere from Scream 4.
This time, “the saga continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.”
Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream, Ready or Not) will helm the film, with James Vanderbilt (Scream, Murder Mystery) and Guy Busick (Scream, Ready or Not) writing the script. Project X Entertainment’s Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak serve as producers (Scream, Ambulance). Kevin Williamson and the other member of Radio Silence, Chad Villella, are executive producing alongside Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena.
So, when will Scream 6 hit theaters? The answer is March 31, 2023. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, watch Scream (2022) on Prime Video, Paramount+, VOD, or DVD.
