While The Conjuring Universe continues to expand with The Conjuring 4 and The Nun 2 on the way, there’s one long-awaited spin-off that is now dead in the water, The Crooked Man.

Director James Wan recently took to social media to share photos of the character, played by Javier Botet, from The Conjuring 2. Before he could be swamped by questions about the spin-off, he told fans that the character won’t be getting his own movie any time soon, if ever.

Wan stated in his post, “And no, unfortunately, the spinoff movie with this character isn’t happening. Outside of my control. But maybe one day.”

The Crooked Man, born out of a classic nursery rhyme, made his debut in The Conjuring 2, terrifying both the children in the movie and us. Soon after The Conjuring 2 premiered Wan shared that he had an exciting story in mind for the creepy character.

But who knows? Maybe we’ll see The Crooked Man again one day, after all, The Nun is actually getting another movie in 2023.
