High school is usually a nightmare of social hierarchy and exams, but for Isaac, the horror is a lot more literal. Writer/director Michael Pickle makes his feature debut with The Dead Place, an indie supernatural thriller that aims to prove some ghosts are harder to shake than a bad reputation.
The film makes its digital debut on the BloodStreamTV streaming service on June 1, 2026, followed by a wide TVOD release on August 5.
A Very Crowded Headspace
Isaac (Idris Veliu) is a high school senior with a serious boundary issue: he can’t stop seeing dead people. Naturally, this makes him the campus outcast and creates a “fun” level of friction at the dinner table.
His only ally is Katharine (Lexi Graves), a paranormal enthusiast who is determined to help him navigate his spectral sightings. However, things take a sharp turn into the demonic when the “New Kid” arrives. This mysterious stranger isn’t just looking for the cafeteria—he’s pushing Isaac to surrender to the literal demon (Bill Oberst Jr.) trying to burrow its way into his soul.
The “Art” of the Speaking Role
The biggest buzz surrounding The Dead Place is the appearance of David Howard Thornton. Best known for his terrifyingly silent portrayal of Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise, this film marks Thornton’s first speaking role. For fans used to his mime-based carnage, hearing him actually manipulate Isaac’s darker impulses is bound to be a highlight.
Joining him is the legendary Bill Oberst Jr., a man whose resume is basically a history of modern indie horror, playing the demon fueling the film’s central bloodlust.
