Ella Rebecca has been in love with the horror genre since an early age. The Bride of Frankenstein began her love of the classics and she's been writing and collecting since.

The Paranormal Activity franchise is dusting off its night-vision cameras yet again, and it has officially found its next victim—er, star. Deadline reports that Chase Yi (Mythic Quest) has secured a lead role in the upcoming installment. However, it is currently being fast-tracked as a priority project by the newly minted horror superpower Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Paramount Pictures.

Coming in 2027

True to the franchise’s standard operating procedure, specific plot points and character details are being kept strictly under wraps. Presumably, someone will buy a house they shouldn’t, ignore several massive red flags, and set up a tripod.

Behind the camera, Canadian filmmaker Ian Tuason—the creative mind behind A24’s Undertone—has been tapped to direct. The film is locked in for a prime pre-summer release date of May 21, 2027, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution.

Horror Royalty

The behind-the-scenes roster reads like a VIP lounge of modern horror royalty. Franchise originator Oren Peli is back to produce under his Solana Films banner. They are joined by titans James Wan and Jason Blum, who are producing for Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Alayna Glasthal are overseeing the project for the company. Steven Schneider, Dan Slater, and Cody Calahan are rounding out the executive producing team.

Continuing the Legacy

It is easy to see why Paramount keeps turning the lights back out. When Oren Peli’s original indie feature, Paranormal Activity, disrupted pop culture back in 2009, it didn’t just scare audiences—it rewrote the box office playbook. Grossing nearly $194 million worldwide on a micro-budget, it became one of the most profitable films ever made. Seven movies and more than $900 million in global box office receipts later, the franchise is still finding ways to pay the rent. Watch or rewatch the original now on Tubi.
