The Firestarter reboot is beginning to take shape. Today, we’ve learned via a press release that Sydney Lemmon (Helstrom, Succession, Fear of the Walking Dead) has joined the cast to play Vicky.

Lemmon joins previously announced actors Zac Efron (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, The Greatest Showman), Michael Greyeyes (Wild Indian, Rutherford Falls, True Detective), Gloria Reuben (City on a Hill, Mr. Robot), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (“American Horror Story”, The Tomorrow War, It: Chapter II).

Keith Thomas, who brought us the fantastic horror film The Vigil earlier this year, directs from the script adapted by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills), based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

The tale centers on a young girl (Armstrong) who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.

Jason Blum and Academy Award® winner Akiva Goldsman will produce. Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the 1984 adaptation of Firestarter starring a young Drew Barrymore in the titular role that Armstrong is now filling, will executive produce. The film is from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse, and Weed Road Pictures.
