Let’s be honest, some movies are simply made to make a buck. The majority of those movies are either reboots/remakes or sequels. The latter is what we’re looking at today. Some of the biggest genre films in history, like Roman Polanski’s classic Rosemary’s Baby, have long forgotten sequels. That’s right, there’s a sequel.  We’ve put together a list of popular horror films with sequels that no one remembers and for some movies, that’s a good thing.

Two years after Christian Bale had an ax to grind in Mary Harron’s American Psycho a sequel, American Psycho II: All American Girl was released that just didn’t capture the original’s je ne sais quoi. It also lacks Bale and instead centers on a young woman, played by Mila Kunis, who has taste for murder. Was it as good as the original? Hell no. But It’s there if you want to watch it? Yes.

Donnie Darko has quite the fan base, but some might be shocked to learn that there is a sequel, 2009’s S. Darko (aka A Donnie Darko Tale), set seven years after the original. This one follows Donnie’s little sister. Sam, played by Daveigh Chase who reprises her role and is the only character that returns for the sequel. In the movie, Sam and her BFF are on a road trip when they get stuck in a small town on the night an asteroid crashes to earth.

In 1986, Michael Rooker gave a fantastic performance in Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, based on the true story of killer Henry Lee Lucas. Unfortunately, Rooker did not return for Henry: Part II. Neil Giuntoli stepped into the role in the sequel, which was the directorial debut of Chuck Parello. Set ten years after the original, the movie finds Henry as a homeless drifter. While it’s not as good as the original, it’s not terrible either.

While 1986’s The Hitcher got a sequel in 2003 titled The Hitcher II: I’ve Been Waiting. C. Thomas Howell returns to play Jim who is now a cop. While out for a ride, he and his girlfriend pick up a hitchhiker. The killer in the movie is played by Jake Busy who has been recast as the villain from the original.  While it’s not great, it is better than the remake.

Rosemary’s Baby is one of the most famous horror films ever made, its sequel, however, is mostly unknown. The movie picks up years later with Rosemary and her son fleeing the cult. Titled Look What’s Happened to Rosemary’s Baby, the movie directed by Sam O’Steen, sees Patty Duke step into the role of Rosemary. Of course, it does not stand up to the original.
