Movie Review: Night of the Demons (1988)/Night of the Demons 2 (1994) – Scream Factory 4K

Angela (Amelia Kinkade) and Suzanne (legendary Scream Queen Linnea Quigley) are the type of ladies that offer up shoplifting and ass showing (set to the sweet, sweet strains of Pac-Man for the Atari 2600) in equal measure… I’ll let you detectives figure out who is more responsible for what… they are also the type to throw a Halloween hootnanny at an allegedly cursed, definitely abandoned mortuary. Once the party commences drinks are consumed, dancing is attempted, and a séance is held… the latter of which ends up freeing a demon from it’s prison deep within the confines of the mortuary that possesses Suzanne… and eventually Angela after that ol’ crowd-pleaser; a girl on girl kiss goes down! Movie Review: August Underground’s Mordum (2003) – Unearthed Films Blu-ray

Remember when I put a revoltin’ review on Fred Vogel’s 2001 extreme torture porn experience, August Underground? Well, the powers that be made a follow up (with Vogel co-directing, co-writing, and once again acting) in 2003 titled August Underground’s Mordum, and as before, Unearthed Films have released a feature-packed Blu-ray edition of the frightful flick and placed it before my putrid peepers! As with the aforementioned previous film the premise here is light; a trio of murderous miscreants go kill crazy and film their conquests… each more stomach churning than the last. Things reach even new heights of depravity when a fourth killer makes the scene… and after all we have witnessed to that point, that is really saying something! As a film, August Underground’s Mordum isn’t as much of a story as it is a series of disgusting vignettes (each featuring rape, vomit, cannibalism, and oh so much more)… but that is where the genius… twisted as it is,

Movie Review: Ghoulies II (1987) – MVD 4K/Blu-ray combo

A broke-down, carnival haulin’ big rig, a sack full of monsters, and evil cultists… Besides sounding like a typical Tuesday ’round these putrid parts, these three things kick-off 1987’s Ghoulies II, the sequel in creatures only to 1984’s, Charles Band (Puppetmaster) produced, mini-monsters run-amok pic Ghoulies (bet you didn’t see that one coming) that finds our eponymous creatures livin’ that sweet carny life! When an escapee from an evil cult deposits a sack of pilfered Ghoulies at a rural gas station, our hero Larry (Damon Martin) and his booze-soaked uncle/ex-magician Ned (legendary character actor Royal Dano) inadvertently pick up the horrific hitchhikers seeking repair for their eighteen-wheeler. Video Game Review: Night at the Gates of Hell (2023) – Nintendo Switch

Puppet Combo is back with their latest Nintendo Switch offering Night at the Gates of Hell; a title that once again brings the player PS1 era survival horror (graphical style and all) mixed with strong fright flick influences; in this case providing a pastiche of Lucio Fulci’s seminal Eibon trilogy (comprised of 1980’s City of the Living Dead, and 1981’s The Beyond and The House by the Cemetery which were connected by the theme of opening gates to hell in a very Lovecraftian (and a dash of Clark Ashton Smith) manner). Peppered with elements that truly provide plenty of tension (limited ammo, enemies that can only be dispatched by means of head shots) the adventure progresses nicely from gory, to scary, to downright (and suitably) fever-dream laden surrealism (thanks in part to the inclusion of an evil cult hellbent on opening more passageways to Lucifer’s Domain)… add in that palpable sense of sleaze so prevalent (and wonderfully so) in many

Movie Reviews: Ghoulies (1984) – MVD 4K/Blu-ray

Young Jonathan Graves (Peter Liapis) has just inherited his late father Malcolm’s (Michael Des Barres) estate and moved the hell on in with his girlfriend Rebecca (Lisa Pelikan). While exploring the arcane abode, the duo find an absolute ass load of Pappy Dearest’s Satanic paraphernalia, which quickly becomes an obsession with our hero… so much so he decides to invite guests (who you absolutely have to see to believe, and who’s ranks include Law & Order: S.V.U.‘s Mariska Hargitay) at his swingin’ new wave housewarming shindig to partake in an occult ritual… you know, just for funsies… right after some spontaneous breakdancing. Movie Review: The Giant Gila Monster (1959)/The Killer Shrews (1959) – Film Masters Blu-ray

Just outside of a small town, deep within a ravine, a gila monster has grown to enormous size (and magically became a bearded lizard which is in turn presented on miniature sets to simulate it’s large scale) where it promptly eats two folks sucking face out on Lover’s Lane. This causes the local teeny-bopper community to spring into action to assist the local sheriff (Fred Graham) in finding their chums, but even when their pal, ace mechanic/drag racer Chase Winstead (Don Sullivan, The Monster of Piedras Blancas) eventually locates the couple’s car and the mysterious damage it displays, no one expects a giant monster to be the cause… because they aren’t completely insane. Movie Review: City of the Living Dead (1980) – Cauldron 4K/DVD

Movie Review: Gangnam Zombie (2023) – WellGo USA Blu-ray

During the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, two dudes get the shit-hot (minus the hot) idea of robbing a shipping container down South Korea way. Once said container is pried open a feral cat leaps out and attacks one of the would-be criminals, who then turns into a flesh-hungry zombie-like creature (of the fast moving variety) before falling in the drink and floating un-merrily down the stream to the posh Gangnam district. This spells impending disaster for former Taekwondo ass-kicker now office worker Hyeon-seok (Ji Il-joo) and his officemate/unrequited crush Min-jeong (Park Ji-yeon), because guess who shows up at work (after some wacky hijinks accompanied by cartoon music, naturally)? Movie Review: The Girl From Rio (1969) – Blue Underground 4K/Blu-ray combo

Arrogant ass/our hero/James Bond surrogate Jeff Sutton (Richard Stapley) arrives in Rio with a hot wad of stolen dough. This factoid becomes known to local crime-lord Sir Macius (George Sanders, the voice of the tiger Shere Khan in Disney’s 1967 animated adaptation of The Jungle Book) who sends out his masked assassins (one of many pieces of imaginative comic book style art design this flick possesses) to grab the cash, which puts the kibosh on his hot date with manicurist Lesley (Maria Rohm, a regular in the films of absolute legend Jess Franco… who just so happened to direct this film as well). Movie Review: Black Circle (2018) – Synapse Blu-ray

Every once in a blue moon I see a flick so incredibly difficult to write about that I’m nearly brought to tears… not because it’s a difficult task, but rather because someone has the goddamn balls to create a psychotronic mother fucking masterpiece and I’d rather all you like-minded cats n’ creeps would just watch the damned thing rather than reading my wicked words… and that is a thing of beauty and wonder indeed!
