Movie Review: DEEP IN THE WOOD There Lies A Deeper, Darker Secret

In an Alpine Valley town of Northern Italy there is a yearly festival held on December 5th. Many of the townsfolk take to the streets, disguised as a mythical (?) demonic creature known as Krampus. According to legend, the real Krampus walks hidden among them during this annual brouhaha, with the intent of stealing away with naughty and disobedient children. Throughout the years many children have vanished with no trace, and have never been seen or heard from again. On one such night a man named Manuel joins others from the town, who regale in this traditional celebration. After the festivities have died down, Manuel joins some of his fellow Krampus impersonators to imbibe and unwind. His very young son, Tommi, has just witnessed the frightening spectacle and pleads for his father’s attention. However, Manuel is having too good a time boozing it up to care. Tommi, having just been rebuffed by his father runs off on his own, finding

AMERICAN EXORCISM Possess’s VOD in May

For horror fans who just can’t get enough demon ousting and supernatural hijinks, American Exorcism is yet another exorcist film being released this year. Hitting Video on Demand in May, the Tripp Weathers directed film tells the story of Damon Richter “who thought he left the world of possessions, exorcisms, and evil behind until an old friend arrives with frightening information about his estranged daughter knowing that only his otherworldly skills can save her.” Pretty standard stuff as far as exorcisms go, and without so much as a trailer to go on, that’s all the info we got until the film is released. Still, as Tom Petty once crooned, “She was an American girl.” Not sure if the lady in Mr.Petty’s song had green skin and puked pea soup over everyone, but hey, you gotta take what you can get.

David Fincher Closing In On Directorial Duties For WORLD WAR Z 2

It seems that World War Z 2, which appeared to be dead, is now back on in its feet and ambling, albeit slowly, forward. The film which had been removed from Paramount Studio’s production calendar back in February, has yet to officially be given the go ahead. However, with David Fincher likely to be in the director’s chair for this sequel, the green light could well come within the next few weeks. Interest in Fincher to take the helm of WWZ 2 began last summer, when Brad Grey was still studio chief. Brad Pitt specifically had a keen interest in working with Fincher again, despite having spoken with a number of other potential directors. At the time it was rumored that Fincher was equally as interested with the idea of taking on such a project, which would be his first feature since Gone Girl in 2014. Pitt and Fincher have a great chemistry, having worked together on Se7en, Fight Club

Women (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: ALIEN DAY TWOFER! Sigourney Weaver And Veronica Cartwright

Greetings, my Little Xenomorphs. Yes, I know you’re all accustomed to the moniker of Little Monsters, but today is the 26th of April or 4/26, thus making it ALIEN DAY! I trust I don’t need to explain the relevance of the number combination in relation to the movie Alien. BUT, for those of you who don’t know, it’s a reference to the planet, known as LV-426, where the crew of the star-freighter Nostromo first encountered the facehugger that “impregnated” Ash (played by the late great John Hurt). OK, that’s enough of that, because we’re here to focus on TWO wonderful Women of Horror today. That’s right, count ’em…one, two. As you can clearly see, the focus today is on the only two female female cast members of Ridley Scott’s classic 1979 film, Alien – Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver. Both of these ladies would grace the world with their presence in 1949. Veronica A. Cartwright was born on April 20th

Jonathan Demme Will No Longer Hear The Screaming Of The Lambs

It is with a heavy heart that I bring this bit of news to you today, my Little Monsters. Acadamy Award winning director Jonathan Demme has passed away at the age of 73 from esophageal cancer as well as complications related to heart disease. Demme was the filmmaker who would prove that a smart and sophisticated horror film could win the film industry’s top honor, and in more categories than one. People can deny it all they want and try to make it more profound than it is. But at the end of the day you have to call Silence of the Lambs what it is, Jonathan Demme’s horror masterpiece. Demme also directed another incredible film that highlighted a very different kind of horror – AIDS. With Philadelphia, Demme gave a very real and human face to this horrific disease while also displaying the prejudice and misconceptions of those who are on the outside looking in and judging those who

ISLAMIC EXORCIST Puts A New Spin On A Classic Genre

Islamic Exorcist is exactly what it sounds like; The Exorcist, just with Islam. Given The Exorcist is one of the best horror movies ever made however, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. And Islam can stand toe to toe with any other religion as far as scary ass demons go. Ever heard of Zaccoum? It’s basically a tree, except with more decapitated heads. Based on a true story (because what good exorcism movie isn’t?), Islamic Exorcist is directed by Faisal Saif, who actually received death threats while filming. From the mouth of the man himself, “I got lots of life threats from the Muslim and Shia Muslim community to not to make this film or if already made, not to showcase it anywhere.” Damn. With that much horror just behind the scenes, the full film itself must be terrifying.

CREEPY Review: Long, Repeititve J-Horror

REVIEW BY KELLI MARKSMAN MCNEELY Takakura is a former detective. He receives a request from his ex-colleague, Nogami, to examine a missing family case that occurred 6 years earlier. Takakura follows Saki’s memory. She is the only surviving family member from the case. Meanwhile, Takakura and his wife Yasuko recently moved into a new home. Their neighbor, Nishino, has a sick wife and a young teen daughter. One day, the daughter, Mio, tells him that the man is not her father and she doesn’t know him at all. That is what the official synopsis of the movie says.. I also read some appreciating reviews about the movie. But according to me, It seems like Kurosawa lost his magic. This is a very average movie, nothing you haven’t seen before. The camera-work and acting is great but the movie and the whole plot was a huge letdown to me. The first half is something like the vein of ‘Cure’ (Kurusawa’s 1997
