Game Review: ‘The Church In The Darkness’

Fellow Traveler and Paranoid Productions indoctrinated me into the Collective Justice Mission and have sent me down to South America to join my fellow members of the congregation in Freedom Town… Well, they were just cool enough to let me try out their game The Church in the Darkness. The game takes place in the 1970s where you take on the role of an ex-cop named Vic who infiltrates the Collective Justice Mission cult’s paradise Freedom Town in what seems to be an eerie parody of Jonestown. Vic’s mission is to find his nephew Alex to see if he’s alright but soon after you arrive, you realize not everything is well. The game is a top view game where you can zoom in a little bit to see more details but other than that, this is the only angle you will see. This actually does help as when you couch you can see the guard’s field of view (depending on

‘We Happy Few’ DLC ‘Lightbearer’ Is A Trippy Must!

Gearbox Software and Compulsion Games in recent months released a Season Pass for their dystopian psychedelic mod game, We Happy Few. Gearbox was kind enough to share with me the season pass so I can experience one of three DLCs, this one in particular titled Lightbearer that follows a rock icon of the fictional English Island-state of Wellington, Nick Lightbearer. Lightbearer appears in the main game for a short time but images of him are everywhere. In the Lightbearer DLC, it becomes obvious that there are two kinds of people in Wellington, those who still like Nick Lightbearer, and those who despise him. Nick’s star is quickly fading as all the sex, and drugs are killing his rock and roll life. Nick is troubled not only by the fact that he’s burning out but that there’s a series of murders taking place around the hotel he’s staying at, and he’s linked to them! Not onto the game. Nick, being a

Game Review: ‘Tetsumo Party’ Is A Party You Want To Pass On

Monster Couch was kind enough to give me a chance to try out their party game based on a Japanese game show, Tetsumo Party, which is coming out on July the 26th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Woovit. The main premise of the game is that players take on the role of a sumo wrestler and control his limbs so he’s able to fit through a human-shaped hole in a bamboo wall. This idea is also the basis for a real-life Japanese game show that was adapted a few years ago for American television and renamed Hole in the Wall. Tetsumo Party features a variety of characters that can be unlocked by completing challenges that each character has. Being a party game, up to eight players can play at one time on two controllers. Players manipulate the character’s arms and legs to put them into the right formation in order to allow the character to pass

Survive A Cult In ‘The Church In The Darkness

Fellow Traveler and Paranoid Productions have announced the release date for their upcoming above-view game The Church in the Darkness. The game will be available August 2nd and is currently available for pre-order. The Church in the Darkness is a stealth-driven game where players take on the role of Vic, a former cop who travels to the jungles of South America in the 1970s to a village called Freedom Town, a socialist utopia where all the citizens are part of a religious cult of the Collective Justice Mission. Vic’s mission is to locate his nephew who joined the cult and moved to Freedom Town. As you explore the village you’ll learn that not everything is as it seems and not all cult members are truly happy. Choices made by Vic will affect the outcome of the game as there are multiple endings depending on how players choose to play the game, stealthy, run and gun, non-lethal combat, or avoid confrontation

Cult Classics ‘Maniac’ And ‘Zombie’ Added To Messed Up Puzzles

Cult classic horror films are not just popular because of the cheap gore effects, campy acting, and boobs, the poster art alone for many of these films are masterpieces to those with an eye for horror art. Messed Up Puzzles is a company that takes these artistic pieces and turns them into jigsaw puzzles that will make any ghoul happy! These Not Safe For Work (NSFW) puzzles feature the art of films only without the title getting in the way. Recently added to their growing collection are the 1980 slasher Maniac and the 1979 Italian zombie flick Zombie (also goes by Zombi 2, and Zombie Flesh Eaters). Maniac follows a serial killer in New York City who murders women and then removes their scalps and affixing them to mannequins. The film’s poster was controversial at the time and fell victim to heavy altering and censorship when shown overseas. Fans of this film will be happy to know that there is

Opinion: Why ‘The Terror: Infamy’ Will Be The Greatest Show This Summer

On August 12th the second season of AMC’s The Terror will premier. This season’s installment titled The Terror: Infamy will follow in the footsteps of the first season where a historical event is a backdrop for a horror story. While the flagship (no pun intended) season and series are based on the novel by Dan Simmons, the second season is original. Seeing the trailers, pictures, and tweets, I have come to the conclusion that The Terror: Infamy will be the greatest show on TV this summer. The Setting The story takes place during one of the most controversial moments during the Second World War, the imprisonment of Americans of Japanese descent. After the events of Pearl Harbor aka “the Day of Infamy”, Americans of Japanese descent were put into Internment Camps as the US government believed that individuals of Japanese ancestry would sympathize with the Imperial Japanese Government and attack America from within. It was later determined that this course

Bianca Devins’s Death Taken Over By Misinformation And Trolls

Yesterday around 7:30 AM EST users of Discord were horrified to see posts of their favorite rising star sitting in a car seat covered in blood from a slash on her throat. The young woman was later identified as 17-year-old Bianca Devins, a rising social media star on the website Instagram. As soon as the news broke of her death, so did the floodgates of the internet court of public opinion where a deep divide was established and sides picked. The tragedy of this incident is only made worse by the fact that the grisly images of Devins’s body are still circulating around Instagram and 4Chan by trolls and disturbingly angry individuals who applaud her death. The trolls are not where it ends sadly. Almost immediately after the announcement of Devins’s death, a massive wave of misinformation surrounding the incident spread like the rage virus in 28 Days Later. Social media stars, streamers, and YouTubers have fallen victim to the

Cult Leader’s Remains In Legal Limbo

It’s been a year since Shoko Asahara (real name Chizuo Matsumoto), leader of the Aum Shinrikyo cult was executed by hanging in a Tokyo prison. The cult’s core teachings surround the idea of preparing to re-inhabit the earth after a nuclear war between the United States and Japan. To bring this apocalyptic vision come true, Asahara ordered members of his cult to carry out a chemical attack on the Tokyo subway system in 1995 with the belief that this would kick start the apocalypse. Asahara was sentenced to death in 2004 for his part in orchestrating the gas attack not just in Tokyo but in the city of Matsumoto, as well as ordering the murder of Tsutsumi Sakamoto in 1989. Asahara was hung on July 6, 2018, along with six other cult members one of whom was involved with the murder of Sakamoto and his family. One of the perpetrators of the Sakamoto killing, Hideo Murai, never saw his day

Game Review: ‘They Are Billions’

The awesome folks over at Blitworks and Numantian Games gave me the opportunity to don my goggles and top hat in order to fight off the ever-hungry hoard of the undead in their upcoming Steampunk survival game, They are Billions. This real-time strategy city building game with a tower defense twist takes place on a planet that’s being colonized until a zombie outbreak occurred turning most of the planet’s inhabitants into an infected hoard and it’s not up to you to rebuild civilization. This game is truly a twist on some of your more traditional tower defense style games as the enemies don’t exactly follow a route, they can come from any direction! Because of this I actually lost the game a couple of times. Usually, I save the bad things about a game for the end of the review but I’ll actually get it out of the way this time as there is only one real negative thing I
