XYZ Films has just snagged Mark Meir‘s Faustian morality tale, The Summoned, and fast-tracked it for a July release following Its premiere last night at the Overlook Film Festival. In the film, young Elijah ( J. Quinton Johnson) attends a self-help retreat with his rock-star girlfriend Lyn, unaware that the enigmatic doctor who runs the estate has summoned him here to settle a generations-old supernatural debt. It’s been over 30 years since the 1990 mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s “IT” debuted, and still, it remains dear in the hearts of horror fans. This July, the highly anticipated new documentary Pennywise: The Story of IT will delve into the story and its making, premiering this Summer. The documentary was co-directed by John Campopiano (Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary) and Christopher Griffiths (Leviathan: The Story of Hellraiser) and produced by Gary Smart (Dark Ditties Presents). The Museum Of Moving Image Announces Major “Films Of The Dead” Event

From June 25, 2022, through January 1, 2023, the Museum of the Moving Image will present Living with The Walking Dead, a major new exhibition exploring the origins, production, fandom, and impact of the long-running AMC series “The Walking Dead.” The event is presented with support from Shudder, and the series accompanies the first month of the major museum exhibition “Living with The Walking Dead.” The first month of the exhibition will be accompanied by the screening series Films of the Dead: Romero and Co., anchored by the seminal films of George A. Romero, starting with his 1968 independent masterpiece Night of the Living Dead. The eleven-film series, presented with support from horror streamer Shudder, includes films from Romero’s cinematic zombie corpus, plus a delirious selection of modern variations from directors as varied as Edgar Wright, Zack Snyder, Jim Jarmusch, and Shinichiro Ueda. To honor the memory of celebrated actor Ray Liotta, who passed away earlier this week at 67, Unearthed Films is re-releasing 1994’s No Escape, set in 2022. From the makers of Aliens and The Terminator, the film is set in the prison of the future, escape is impossible, and survival isn’t much easier. A soldier convicted of murdering his commanding officer is dumped and left to die on a prison island inhabited by two camps of convicts. Liotta leads the cast as Captain J.T. Robbins and is joined by Lance Henriksen, Stuart Wilson, Kevin Dillon, Ernie Hudson, and Kevin O’Conner. We are all saddened at the sudden loss of Ray Liotta. Twenty features, a bevy of short films, and special events ranging from live podcasts to super-special guests to a magic show are set to appeal to genre-film fans of every stripe. Robert Egger‘s revenge epic The Northman (read the review here) is one of the year’s best films. You may think it will be a long time until it comes to streaming, but you would be wrong. It has just landed on Peacock! In the brutal and bloody film, after witnessing firsthand the murder of his father, a Viking prince (Alexander Skarsgård) devotes his life to avenging his father’s death, saving his mother, and reclaiming his kingdom in The Northman. The film is written and directed by Robert Eggers (one of our favorites) and stars Alexander Skarsgård (Godzilla vs. Kong, The Legend of Tarzan) in what is no question his best performance to date. In celebration of Pride Month, Shudder has just released the first poster for their new four-part docu-series “Queer for Fear,” which delves into the history of queer people in the horror and thriller genres. From Executive produce, rs Bryan Fuller (“Hannibal”) and Steak House (Launchpad) “Queer for Fe,” a Shudder Original, will debut this Fall. From its literary origins with queer authors Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and Oscar Wilde to the pansy craze of the 1920s that influenced Universal Monsters and Hitchcock, through the “lavender scare” alien invasion films of the mid-20th century and the AIDS obsessed bloodletting of 80s vampire films, Queer for Fear re-examines genre stories through a queer lens, seeing them not as violent, murderous narratives, but as tales of survival that resonate thematically with queer audiences everywhere. Director John Pogue’s (The Quiet Ones, Deep Blue Sea 3) reboot Eraser: Reborn is set to be released this week. I had the chance to check it out in advance and review it. Before we dive into it, I confess that I’ve never seen the original starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. With the1996 original having such a star-studded cast, I feel that it is almost unfair to compare the two, so I’m going to judge Reborn on its own merits. In the movie, U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard specializes in “erasing” people – faking the deaths of high-risk witnesses.
