With its waining popularity, it’s safe to say that The Walking Dead now has competition, The Terror, the new series based on the novel written by Dan Simmons of the same name. The book, as well as the new series, is a fictionalized account of the infamous Franklin’s Lost Expedition The show’s two-hour premiere with the episodes Go for Broke and Gore. The series is being produced by Scott Free Productions which explains the better production quality over AMC’s other series, The Walking Dead. I’m keeping my impressions spoiler free because I feel that if anyone’s interested in watching this show should do so and judge for themselves, with that here’s my first impression. First off, some are criticizing the premiere as being a bit “slow” but any sailor will tell you, it’s the calm before the storm. Talented young actor Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) stars in the paranormal thriller The Turning which has just entered production. Wolfhard will be playing the role of an orphan. In the first picture from the film, we see Wolfhard and co-star Brooklyn Prince. The adaption of The Turning of the Screw by Henry James is directed by Floria Sigismondi and centers on a caretaker who is hired to look after two orphaned children at their family’s isolated estate. Upon the caretaker’s arrival, the young woman finds that the children are not quite what they seem and that she might be losing them to evil spirits with a secret tie to their past. Mackenzie Davis and Niall Greig Fulton co-star in the film written by Chad and Carey Hayes. In the 1898 story that was originally printed in Collier’s Weekly, a young governess has been hired to look after and teach a young brother and sister who live in a sprawling gothic

Veronica has got it rough all over; since her father died her mother has to work mega long hours leaving V-dawg in charge of her young siblings…when she isn’t attending classes at the local Catholic school that is. Speaking of that school, Veronica and two of her friends get the absolutely dip-shit idea to head down into the building’s basement during a solar eclipse to use a Ouija board to contact their dead loved ones. This goes about as well as one would expected and Veronica suffers some sort of physical episode. This leads to an outre presence making itself known at her home that threatens to destroy Veronica and her entire family. Will our young heroine be able to force those ghost back into whatever nether hell they emerged from, or will she lose herself to the darkness? Veronica is an interesting film for a number of reasons, and this may come a surprise given how familiar the story

Webtoons.com is a fun site where comic authors can showcase their works to readers. I’ve been a reader on the site for a while and have found some really nice comics that tend to be the “slice of life” comedic variety but recently I’ve discovered a darker comic that I could not stop reading as soon as I started, Melvina’s Therapy by A. Rasen. The Webtoon is about a Psychiatrist name Melvina who helps her clients unlock their deepest emotional trauma to “help” them; yes I used quotations there because in truth she’s using her patients to achieve a nefarious goal of using their torment as nourishment for herself. The overall plot is dark and mysterious with each chapter having their own twisted plot. The stories remind me of some of the really good horror manga’s I’ve read in the past. The art is fantastic and what I really love about this comic is the attention to detail. A. Rasen

Struggling screen writer Nick has got a problem with pussy…namely his cat angel, a demonically possessed feline that attacks any woman that gets within ten feet of our hero. Desperate Nick tries any method possible (including sleeping with her on a bed strewn with rose petals, an exorcism, and a seance…same things really) to try and get his cat to stop maiming and mutilating the female of the species, but with little success…and to complicate matters the nasty hairball’s victims suffer a form of rotting disease. Will Nick ever be able to tame that wild beast and have a normal love life? Let’s start with the positives…I’m glad Hell’s Kitty was an hour and a half and not two hours. The Winchesters have just about been through it all, vampires, ghosts, monsters, but this March they will have their strangest mission yet, they’re getting animated. The boys will go where they have never gone before when they are sucked into the animated world of “Scooby-Doo”. Once they get over their amazement at the beginning of the cartoon, two things happen,” executive producer Robert Singer to EW. “They say, ‘We’ve been in a situation like this before with the Trickster and I think we’re supposed to play this out.’ Then they realize they’re in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up.” With the episode approaching a teaser has been released. Paco Plaza, the director behind 2007’s found footage flick [REC], is back with the Spanish horror film Veronica which has been all over genre sites since it arrived on Netflix earlier this month. The reason the film is getting so much buzz, many viewers can’t finish watching the film because it’s so scary. One thing that adds to the reputation is the fact that it is based on a true story. The film centers on a young woman (Sandra Escacena) who must protect her younger brother and sister after she attempts to contact the spirit of their dead father through a ritual using an Ouija board. So, what’s the true story that inspired the film? Back in August of 1991 in Madrid, Spain, a teenage girl named Estafania Gutierrez Lazaro died a mysterious death. Beginning as it does with an opening credits sequence that wouldn’t be out of place in any given ’50’s era alien invasion flick, The Flatwoods Monster: A Legacy of Fear spins a yarn jammed fat with flying saucers, putrid smelling monsters, and flesh melting fog…and the best part of it all is, this is believed by many to be a true story! Two individuals are on a quest, a quest to scare the crap out of you in a new VR gaming experience that combines The Matrix and The Haunted Collector in the game Project Nightmares. The game was greenlit on STEAM and a demo of the game is available to play on PC. Players take on a role of a psychic who is working with a group of scientists on a project to study the paranormal, the group is called, Project Nightmares. Project Nightmares goal is to eradicate evil energies that are connected to objects as well as learning the history of the object in question. The playable character, while asleep, will be connected or plugged into the object and be sent into a nightmarish world that’s unique to that particular object. The developers, who are going by “NC”, stated the goal of the players is to find clues about the history behind the object as quickly and stealthily as possible
