In a hidden bunker far below the Earth, a strange (and by strange this dude is an actual, full on monster) commandant (Nima Forghani) devises strategies for a great war. When not preoccupied with that, or snorting the ashes of cremated soldiers like cocaine, he focuses much of his unwanted attention on his secretary (Tiffany Astrid); a vamp that would give Vampira a run for her money. Looking for a way out of her predicament she enlists the aide of a soldier (Douglas Mckenney); who resides in a giant birdcage within the bunker when not doin’ the army biz, to help her with her demonic dilemma. Filled with gobs of silent film atmosphere, fever dream imagery, and a thing or two to say about war and women’s place in a tyrannical male society inspired in part by the film’s co-writer (along with Byron C. Miller who also edited the film)/actor/producer Nima Forghani’s experience growing up in 1980’s Iran; a country

After a cold open where a couple o’ vloggers get their asses handed to them by a murderous scarecrow, we dive right into the story proper of Old Man of the Rooks; namely a real black widow of a woman named Deb (Susan Willis) keeps murdering her spouses on her remote farmland along with the help of her brother Dan (David Barney). Well one of the dudes she done wrong was a Scottish warlock, and now roams the grounds as that aforementioned scarecrow who offers up blood sacrifices to a witch who dresses up like a crow (a very cool visual). Said scarecrow soon offs Dan and then begins playing mind games with ol’ Deadly Deb who is going to have one hell of a time stayin’ alive with so much supernatural shenanigans afoot on her property! As you may surmise by the description above, Old Man of the Rooks has one major thing going for it; and that’s originality.

The cool hardworking folks over at Darril Arts gave me the opportunity to play the Xbox One version of their awesome horror-stealth game ‘Remothered: Tormented Fathers’ in a previous article I spoke of this. The game is out now on PC but will be out on PS4 and Xbox ONE July 25th. It’s been a while since a horror game actually spooked me! I would play the game, take a break from it and partially vow to never play again but the story drew me back in because I wanted to see what happens next! The story takes place in 1970’s Italy and follows a woman named Rosemary Reed who came to the mansion of Dr. Felton to ask about his health while in reality, her true intention is to find out what happened to his daughter Celeste who has gone missing years ago. After her investigation abruptly ends, she breaks into the mansion at night and quickly things get

Usually when I have to lay my putrid peepers on an arcane anthology things take a turn for the horror biz, but recently I was sent a picture packed with yarns of a sci-fi bent, all with the theme of artificial intelligence as their linking narrative element. Let’s see how the disparate stories (these shorts are presented “as is” with no connecting framing narrative) of A.I. Tales stack up, shall we? First up comes Seed; the story of a man named Nathan (Nelson Lee, who also wrote and directed the film) who’s family and friends gather to celebrate his birthday, but rather than being a joyous affair things take a turn for the melancholy as our protagonist reflects on the life he has lead with the folks gathered, warts and all. So why is Nathan so glum…why because it is his 40th birthday and there fore he must be reduced to just his consciousness and give up his body in

After a whole mess of sheep, a cowboy (sheepboy?!!) in a furry vest playing the one armed bandit, rando joyriding, and four music changes (a heavenly chorus. some synthy fart noises, a brassy upbeat number, and some sort of stock score music) we get down to the real business with Godmonster of Indian Flats…namely that this film is batshit insane and possibly the product of a certified schizophrenic (or a director desperately trying to meet their run time…not a lot of difference really). Following all that we get a banjo band with a beatnik playing in a traditional old west saloon (like straight out of a John Wayne movie costumes and all)…and we finally get going on the story to this picture; namely that dude mentioned previous finds one hella fucked up newborn lamb (after he experiences a psychotronic freak out)…a find that is whisked away to the lab of scientific manly-man Dr. Clemens (E. Kerrigan Prescott…Christ, they just should

Preston Rogers (Matt McCoy), a wheelchair bound man recovering from a severe mountain climbing accident that took the life of his wife, takes his doctor’s advice and heads to a remote cabin in the wilderness near where the tragedy occurred to face his fears and heal in the peace and quite with his prize winning dick of a nurse, Otis (Christien Tinsley) in tow. Of course in exactly one p.h. after he arrives, a group of garrulous beauties takes up residence in the cabin next door…one of which our hero believes was abducted by a Bigfoot-like creature (a rational assumption) after spying on them with binoculars, though of course Otis thinks he’s insane. Well turns out P-man was correct-a-mundo as ‘Squatch is indeed on a kill-crazy rampage, and soon everyone within those wicked woods is fodder for the beast’s deadly desires…and surviving the night will become a near insurmountable challenge! Filled with absolutely tons of effective suspense, a gorgeous monster

When an evil businessman, Sydney Swallows (Yannick Bisson), comes up with a poisonous plot to use his new brand of stout beer to impregnate the locals of Woodhaven with alien babies, part time werewolf and full-time alcoholic Lou Garou (Leo Fafard reprising his role from the original Wolfcop) answers the call to action…and by that I mean he begins violently ripping people apart and showing off his massive wolf wang. Complicating the police forces efforts to shut Swallows plan down is the fact the town’s mayor, Bubba Rich (Kevin Smith) is B.D. into what that terrible tycoon is bringing to the town in the form of industry and hockey…not to mention the killer robot ol’ double S dispatches to fuck shit up six ways to Sunday…and believe you me there is a whole slew of other sinister shit our hairy hero has to contend with after that! Ever slappin’ my putrid peepers on the O.G. Wolfcop a few years back

WARNING SPOILERS!!! This weekend I stood in a line that almost completely wrapped around the theater to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. While I danced with excitement (literally) I looked around to see so many different generations of fans waiting to watch the film. It was heartwarming to see parents and kids, and even grandparents there rocking their dino themed gear. Let’s be honest, there are a few things we all expect from the Jurassic franchise, action, drama, and a whole lot of dinosaurs (the best part in my opinion), but the first part of Fallen Kingdom offered something else, heartbreak. As that island went up in smoke, ash, and lava, it took so many creatures with it. As the boat with those few saved sailed away we witnessed what might the most heartbreaking scene I have seen in a film in years, the island and animals being swallowed up. Just before Claire and Owen snuck onto the boat they

Three ultra-degenerates wander the affluent suburbs looking for families to abuse in their own trademarked way, namely; they film the matriarch and patriarch gettin’ it on in front of the rest of the family (how rude!) then they off everyone and steal whatever shit appeals to their greedy lil’ hearts. As is the way, nothing lasts forever…even cold November Rain…and rapey crime sprees because our terror trio picks on the wrong family when they come a knockin’ on the door of the Pontecorvo’s. You see this family harbors a secret zombie filled lab in their home (as you do), and that trio of beastly boobs of course unleash that hell resulting in the expected bloodbath…but just who will survive the onslaught? I’m going to cut right to the chase…Dead House (a.k.a. Beautiful People) takes waaaay too long to get to the arcane action! It’s nearly forty five minutes (out of an hour and thirteen minute run time…with credits) before the

Sarah’s livin’ high off the spaghett in the land of it’s birth…namely good ol’ Italy. Things are all wine n’ roses until our comely heroine learns she has inherited a rural villa…you know, the kind that any sane person would say “This shit is haunted, yo”…at least they should if they’ve ever laid putrid peepers on a fright flick that is. Anyway, Sarah and her friends move in, find a ouija board, then immediately put it back where they found it, and leave. Yeah right, these dipshits use that board and unleash unholy hell…as is always the way. Let’s chit chat about what works in Ouija Seance: The Final Game. Firstly, the film looks good; the Italian locales offer a unique touch, and the supernatural set dressing (the distinctive look of the titular board, ancient texts, et.al.) is suitably creepy. Additionally, the film skillfully presents the supernatural goings-on with plenty of arcane atmospherics…it’s just that the proceedings seem awfully familiar,
