Emma Rose (Jo Woodcock) is a young woman who finds herself in dire straights after becoming entwined in one of your huge financial cock-ups (of the nation wide variety) thanks to her boyfriend socking away millions in knicked pension funds. To escape that hot mess she blows like the wind to the bucolic English countryside where she accidentally discovers (as one does) that she has a real passion for killing wealthy landowners (who employ her for “casual work”). Enter Gabriel Lenard (Cosmo Jarvis), an investigator with synesthesia (you know, like he can see sounds and the like) hired by the British Crime Agency to track ol’ Emma down. Will Gabriel, who’s condition allows him to see things at crime scenes others can not, be able to find Emma and recover the loot? Monochrome is nothing else if but original. The inclusion of the synesthesia (though under used…see below) is a nice element not found in your normal serial killer yarns,

Abby (Jaimi Paige) and Sam (Toby Nichols), her teenaged Son, head out to the remote wilderness to scatter the remains of her husband with her best friend Jen (Alyshia Ochse) taggin’ along. Everything is pines n’ posies for our trio until a beardo-weirdo dubbed ‘The Hiker’ makes the scene and begins the ol’ stalk n’ slay business we laid down our shekels for after our heroes leave some wine bottles behind causing him to go rabid Woodsy. Desolation has some good things going for it. For starters, the tension remains razor sharp throughout much of the run time once The Hiker shows up…which of course is a major plus for a fright flick. Speaking of the H-man; I dug his silent routine…he never utters a word, lurks menacingly, and besides those aforementioned wine bottles, he has el zippo for motivation…he’s just there, ready to kill, and our protagonists are merely in the wrong neck of the woods at the wrong

Reptilian aliens arrive on Earth to retrieve a big ass laser gun from some sort of mutated teenager whom they quickly dispatch…but, a small plane scares them away before they can pick up the gun. Enter custom van drivin’ Mark Hamill surrogate Billy (Kim Milford), a down on his luck teen constantly left to fend for himself by his over-sexed Mother and hounded by some wacky cops (who complete with their own ragtime piano theme). Billy naturally finds the weapon mentioned previous, and begins to fuse with it courtesy of it’s funky fresh control medallion…slowly becoming a mutant himself. Soon a governmental agent, teen partying, vehicular scene padding, and “pew pew” lasers combine to form one hell of an entertaining sci-fi drive-In flick experience! I will be the first to admit that I love anything that involves sharks, so I was excited when I learned that the next film of the Open Water franchise, titled Open Water 3: Cage Dive, was out on DVD. Written and directed by Gerald Rascionato, the film centers on a group of three friends, played by Josh Potthoff, Megan Hill, and Pete Valley, doing stunts to make an audition tape for a reality show. The group boards a shark cage diving tour in hopes of getting great footage for their audition. When a rogue wave takes out the boat they are left drifting in the shark-infested water. After night sets in they magically find an inflatable raft floating by with enough goodies to give them a fighting chance of getting rescued. But that doesn’t last long. Burt Gummer to the rescue! It’s been 28 years since we were first introduced to Graboids, the giant subterranean creatures that plagued the isolated town of Perfection. Now, the sixth film of the franchise, Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell is headed to Blu-ray and DVD this May. I’ll be real honest with you, A Cold Day in Hell, in my opinion, is the best of the franchise since the original. At the beginning of the movie, we find Graboid slayer Burt Gummer (Michael Gross) wasting away and mad as hell at tax collectors in Perfection when his son Travis (Jamie Kennedy) returns from a long trip. As soon as Burt goes to take a nap he begins to have what appear to be a combo of nightmares and flashbacks. While Hollywood is obsessed with putting things into tornados, the corners of the internet have a hidden gem, a webcomic titled Bearmageddon by Ethan Nicolle. Ethan has been making comics for years with his most notable work being Axe Cop that was created by his little brother (5 years old at the time) Malachai. Bearmageddon is about the sudden uprising of Grizzly Bears besieging a city is mass numbers and our heroes are a couple of 20 something slackers and a mountain man. Joel and his friend Gogs (real name Jeremy) decided to quit their jobs and live out in the wild with their two other slacker friends. While attempting to start their new life they encounter killer bears and are saved by Dickinson Killdeer, a mountain man with no memory with how he started living in the wild but is willing to help Joel find his Father and little brother who have gone missing after the bears invaded the

Today, I watched The Executioners, and I can’t seem to get it out of my head. It begins with a group of female friends heading to a lakeside home for a girls’ weekend. As night falls the women are disturbed by someone knocking on the door. Three men with painted faces rush in and a night of terror begins. Viewers are forced to watch not one, but three rapes and two sexual assaults, as well as the torture of both women and men in this movie. I fully understand that the writer-director Giorgio Serafini (Game of Death) wanted viewers to sympathize with the women as they turned the tables, but damn. In my opinion, it went too far. One in three women are sexually assaulted in their lifetime. That statistic is scary enough as it is, why anyone would want to use multiple graphic rapes as a plot point is beyond me. Two amazingly perfect social media fitness-centric “celebrities” head out into the deep woods for a lil’ R&R (which they plan to record every minute of…which is a needed conceit seeing as how this is a found footage fright flick and all). But there is more to this yarn, as two online documentary film makers who want to prove how easy it is to track someone on social media and find them no matter where they are, follow our couple into those aforementioned woods…but just what do they plan on doing to them once they are found? While on the surface Followers may not appear to be the most original horror picture you could ever see (especially blending found footage and stalk n’ slay elements), but it has some clever use of social media elements (including a Facetime cold open murder to start things off), and Actors Amanda Delaney and Justin Maina as our comely protagonists do a really solid job

This is a Spoiler Free article! Ninja Theory has released on Xbox One today their hit game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice that received positive reviews when it was on PlayStation 4 and PC. Ninja Theory allowed me to play the Xbox One version early and write a review for it. After finally completing the game, all I can say is the last time I’ve ever played a game that made me sit back and say “Wow…” after completing it was Shadow of the Colossus on PlayStation 2 back in 2006. The following are my final thoughts on Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice a game that’s both haunting and beautiful. It’s no big secret; the storyline’s core is about Senua’s mental health, this would make her relatable to the 1 in 5 American adults who suffer from all ranges of mental illnesses. The developers kept it no secret that Senua suffers from Psychosis, right now you’re probably thinking negatively of her thanks in part
