Movie Review : Camp Dread (2014)

At Camp Dread nothing is what it seems to be. Campers who have legal, drug or other serious issues have been forced to go to the camp by their parents. The campers have a choice to go head to head in a competition on what they think is a reality show. The last camper standing wins one million dollars. What the campers don’t realize is that writer/director Julian Barrett played by Eric Roberts, has something more devious in mind for the teens. This movie has twists you never see coming. With a fresh idea and unique story line writer/director Harrison Smith brings back the feel of the slasher summer camp movies of the 80’s. Made on a small budget, Camp Dread still packs quite a punch. This movie is a great fit for slasher movie fans. Camp Dread stars Eric Roberts, who has had roles in over a hundred movies including The Dark Knight, The Human Centipede III and Assault

The History Of The Ouija Board

There’s no time like the present for a quick history lesson. Almost every one of us have used a Ouija board at least once in our lives. More than likely the first experience you had with a board was at a sleep over asking silly questions like “Who will I marry?” or “Is Elvis really dead?”. At some point you probably got spooked and swore to never use one again, I know I did. Then there are those who seek answers and communications with those beyond in a more serious note. The word Ouija alone conjures fear and mystery. The Ouija has been widely used for almost 125 years. Talking boards have always been popular among practitioners of many religions, especially Spiritualists. The boards gained popularity during the 19th century thanks to the Fox sisters of New York. They supposedly began communicating with an entity that went by the name “Mr. Splitfoot” in 1884. The Fox sisters became celebrities in

Dead Drunk: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse… One Beer at a Time & Dead Drunk II: Dawn of the Deadbeats

Dead Drunk: Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse… One Beer At A Time & Dead Drunk II: Dawn of the Deadbeats [If you aren’t sure if you want to read these titles after reading this review, you can also check out Weekend at Vidu’s, a short by author Richard Johnson that will help introduce you to author Richard Johnson’s writing style and some of the characters from the Dead Drunk series.] Synopsis of Dead Drunk: Charlie Campbell was your average, balding, thirty-year-old alcoholic with a dead-end job and a penchant for shambling through life one mistake after another. However, none of that mattered following the sudden arrival of a mysterious sickness that brought with it infected mobs of zombie-like creatures thirsting for the flesh of the living. Trapped in a Chicago apartment the morning after a raucous bachelor party, Charlie and his old fraternity buddies must battle for survival against the cannibalistic horde, a military invasion and their own rampant stupidity. American Revenant: Hometown Exodus

American Revenant: Hometown Exodus by John L. Davis IV is, without a doubt, my favorite zombie book of the year. That’s basically it, all I have to say. I’ll elaborate more, but that’s the take home message. At $0.99 (that’s ninety-nine cents USD) you can’t afford to not own this book if you’re serious about zombie fiction. …Okay, so you know me better than to assume that I was actually done, but the point is that I could be. I’ll give you the tldr version first: This novel hits the ground running with enough action to keep me actively engaged from the first few pages on. There was never a dull moment, either in terms of what was going on, or in terms of the word choices that Davis used. The dialogue between characters is realistic and seamless, unlike the extended monologues or useless banter-driven conversations that frequently are used to kill time or narrate occurrences in place of actual

If you’re a masochist, then you’ll love the torture of SUPER GHOULS N GHOSTS

Title : Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts Publisher : Capcom Developer : Capcom Genre : Action / Platform Players : 1 Player Release Date : 1991 Estimated Value (as of today’s date) : $20-$25 You know, I can’t say this game is SCARY, or HORRIFYING in the traditional sense, but do you know what makes it frightening? How downright difficult and unforgiving it is! I had the luxury of snagging a copy of SUPER GHOULS N GHOSTS recently, and I couldn’t resist popping it into the ‘ol Super Nintendo and giving it another whirl. Lo and behold, and much to my lack of surprise, the game frustrated me to no ends just like it did years ago. Sure, it’s not as bad as the original for the NES, or if you happened to play the one in the arcade which is ten times as worse, probably because you had to keep feeding it quarters, but the Super Nintendo version sequel is

The Zombies: Volume One

The Zombies: Volume One by Macaulay C. Hunter is another zombie novel that takes the perspective of an unusual demographic — teenagers. “They were six average teenagers . . . until Sombra C. Schools are closed. Thousands of sick people are locked in confinement points to die. Vigilante soldiers are pacing the streets. A mutation of a common cold virus has resulted in the deadly Sombra C illness, which is spreading through the world like wildfire. Highly contagious, it transforms its victims in the weeks before death into violent, zombie-like creatures. Zaley Mattazollo and her friends are thrilled when the anti-viral medication Zyllevir is proven to freeze the infection in its tracks. Finally their lives can go back to normal . . . except they don’t. Riots and bombings and assassinations, zombies and Shepherd soldiers running loose: the civil unrest stirred up by Sombra C unravels their world more and more by the day. And then an attack upon their

World War of the Dead by Eric S. Brown

The basic synopsis of Eric S. Brown’s novel ‘World War of the Dead‘ is simple enough. In World War II the undead and a monster as old as time are brought to our world by a bombing run, and it’s up to 3 men who develop unique powers to stop them. …Okay, so maybe it’s not so simple. Overall I would say that World War of the Dead is an intense, enjoyable ride. There are several moments that made me go ‘What?!’ and ‘…uh… what?’ out loud, but what fun is an action-based zombie book if it doesn’t make you question its intentions aloud every now and again? Entertainment 5/5 I cannot stress enough that this book is a roller coaster ride, and that I mean that in the best possible way. There is a LOT of action due to the nature of the story, first and foremost. In a lot of ways it is first a war book, and

Movie Review: Mercy (2014) Starring Chandler Riggs

The producers that brought us “The Purge” and “Paranormal Activity”, have brought us “Mercy”. This supernatural film revolves around George, a young boy with the ability to see what most can’t, spirits. When George’s beloved Grandmother falls ill from a stroke he, his brother and his mom move to the Grandmother’s house in the country to take care of her. The stroke is the least of his family’s problems. When you make a deal with a demon bad things tend to happen. Grandma is not who she once was. Shirley Knight The interaction between George’s character and the character of his Grandmother played by Shirley Knight (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) made the movie kind of sweet but creepy at the same time. The characters have a very strange and twisted family dynamic. The 150 year old house they are living in is the same one that their grandfather committed suicide in, by taking an ax to his own head. I

Movie Review: Godzilla (2014)

Run! It’s Godzilla! Sorry, I couldn’t resist. The latest Godzilla movie is directed by Gareth Edwards, who also directed 2010’s Monsters. The movie has a wonderful cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick Ass 1 and 2) and Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai) , just to name a few. The story is that of a soldier who is called to his father’s aid when he arrested for being in a no travel zone where a nuclear plant exploded, killing the soldier’s mother when he was a child. When a giant moth hatches in the zone all hell breaks loose. The soldier scrambles to find a way to get back to his family in San Francisco, joining military missions along the way. I’m glad that Edwards decided to make Godzilla look and act more like the original beast. The movie looked great, save for one thing. Half of the battles were so dark you could barely see the action. I’ll never understand why
