There are a lot of underrated horror films that have been released over the years. One that is criminally underrated is 2005’s Skeleton Key from director Ians Softly, and the writer of The Ring. And it happens to be one of my favorites. The movie is set in a once grand plantation that stands against the beautiful backdrop of the bayou of Louisiana where it has stood for over a century. Caroline works as a hospice nurse and is there caring for Ben, the man of the house (John Hurt) in his final days. His wife (Gena Rowlands), a domineering woman, believes Caroline’s presence is not needed but is convinced by her young lawyer (Peter Sarsgaard) to accept the help. But there’s much more to the story, there is a nefarious plot in the works. Skeleton Key is unlike any film you’ve seen before. It’s also full of intrigue, spookiness, and tension. Hoodoo plays a huge part in the story,

When I found out that there was a movie, Raven’s Hollow, coming out that featured Edgar Allen Poe as the main character I was excited. I’m a big fan of Poe’s works. It has now landed on Shudder and I thought I’d give it a try. Warning, there are spoilers ahead. The movie begins with a group of West Point cadets traveling down a road. They stop when they see a man, tortured, hanging on a rack, and mortally wounded. After some debate, Poe decides that must find his people. They travel to a dying town to find the dead man’s home, only to learn of a creature (demon?) that is killing the villagers. The cadets, led by Poe, set out to discover the mystery, as well as to find and destroy the creature. There’s a decent amount of action and a ton of gore in Raven’s Hollow. But the movie’s ending ruins it all. I actually caught myself saying,

From Terror Films, and writer-director Justin Miller comes Sleep.Walk.Kill. starring award-winning actress Ellen Boscov, Samantha Russel, Bill Reick, John Reshetar, Melanie Rosedale, and The Legendary WID. “If you sleep, you become one of them. News reports tell of an Earth-shattering sound heard along the entire East Coast. Nobody knows where it came from. Nobody knows what it means. That night, people start walking in their sleep. And killing in their sleep. When the screaming stops and the blood dries up, the ones who are left have to work together to stay alive. Heads will roll, and eyeballs will fly, but for Edgar, hell is still just other people. His ex-wife, his parents, and all his neighbors are hiding out at his house.
