Rock Meets Horror In The ‘Dark Roads 79’ Trailer

Rock & Roll meets horror in Chase Smith‘s genre film, Dark Roads 79, the newly acquired film from Terror Films. The fantastic cast includes April Bogenschutz (Penance Lane), Eddie George (“Ballers”), David Flannery (Detroit), Chase Smith, Jessica Sonneborn, and horror icon Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects, 3 From Hell). The film centers on a southern rock band known as Dark Roads, whose time in the spotlight has come to an abrupt end. To find a new sound and regain their fame and fortune, they head to a secluded cabin to work on a new album. One by one, each band member begins to meet their demise and the survivors soon discover that the frontman of the band sold his soul to the devil – for the fame and fortune they’ve enjoyed. Now, the time has come to pay back this debt with their souls! Written and directed by Chase Smith (Creature Feature) also features an original soundtrack by Smith, which

Movie Review: Lycanimator (2018)

After one of your mad scientist types swallows a preternatural potion and transforms into a wicked werewolf, we get down to the nitty-gritty (and the titty) of what Lycanimator is all about… Two squabblin’ couples, May (Cayt Feinics of Clownado fame) and Jeff (Jonathan E. Smith) and Brian (Kii Hornick) and Nikki (Briana Wyman) are heading out to a secluded… and dilapidated as all fuckity-fuck house (it’s a fancy-ass real estate term, trust me) they’ve rented along with their gal pal Allie (Karina Nieves). Before they arrive they encounter the local doomsayer/deranged vet Niven (Joel D. Wynkoop in a suitably maniacal performance)… a real one-two punch of crazy right to your tender danglin’ orbs who tries to scare them away with tales of mad experiments and rampaging monsters, to no avail. Any-fucking-how; our heroes arrive at that dread domicile, and while trying to sniff out some booze, they find that crazy concoction mentioned up yonder… and Jeff gets it poured

Short Film Review: The Amulet of Fear (2020)

A woman (Ludovica Ferraro) is home alone one moonlit night, and happens across an arcane amulet located within a wicked wicker basket… and once said moonlight falls upon that jazzy jewelry a monster is released mirroring the one featured in the Stephen King book our heroine is reading to pass the time! Writer/director Andrea Ricca truly delivers the ghoulish goods in this creature feature-style sinister short… a short that plays out without a single, solitary word of dialog no less! Because of said lack of dialog, the film’s only actor, the aforementioned Ferraro, has to do all of the heavy lifting with her expressions and body acting alone… and to that end she is a champ; creating a believable and sympathetic heroine we can root for over the films scant five minute and change runtime. As for the creature of the piece, it’s a rather cool looking humanoid terror that is realized with surprisingly good CG for a film of

DVD Review: Hunter’s Moon (2020)

Three teenage girls are left alone in their parent’s new rural home, a mansion once owned by a serial killer, for the night after said parents leave town. Naturally these comely gals commence to throwin’ a shindig with some local yokel bad boys… but these dudes have some other intentions than merely partying down… sinister intentions. Anyway, push comes to shove, and folks start turning up missing, because as fate and horror movie tropes would have it; a werewolf stalks the orchard… and juvenile delinquents, their victims… even the town sheriff may not have the stones to survive the night! Hunter’s Moon is one odd-ass flick boils n’ ghouls. It starts of as a home invasion flick, dove-tails into a creature feature… and then drops some eleventh hour surprises in that make this a fun lil’ trip into the hairier side of the ol’ horror biz! While all of the cast is excellent (and with some genre legends such as

‘Anaconda’ Is Slithering Towards A Reboot

The creature feature Anaconda is slithering its way back to the big screen with a reboot from Columbia Pictures. The 1997 original followed a “National Geographic” team taken hostage by an insane hunter on a mission to hunt down and capture the world’s largest and most deadly snake. Directed by Luis Llosa, Anaconda (trailer below) starred Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez, Eric Stoltz, Ice Cube, and Owen Wilson. It spawned three sequels and spin-off. The reboot will be an all-new story with a modern take, according to THR who also states the movie will have a budget similar to that of 2018’s The MEG, starring Jason Statham. DVD Review: The Siren (2019)

Pious mute Tom (Evan Dumouchel) goes on a sabbatical to one of those remote lake houses that are all the rage with kids ages 18 to 54. Seems all well and good, but the location is an odd choice for our hero seeing as he had a water related tragedy as a youth that resulted in his current malady. Once he makes the scene he meets Al (MacLeod Andrews), whose husband drowned in the local lake… as have many. Al thinks there’s a mystery afoot… a mystery perhaps related to a woman named Nina (Margaret Ying Drake) who often swims to the cabin and chats with tom who has become all cat with a shiny object with the lass, who as fate and this movie would have it may be more than she seems. So what makes The Siren worth your time? Let’s start with the performances of Dumouchel, Drake, and Andrews. Dumouchel is absolutely amazing to watch in a

Top 10 Films 10.The Head Hunter (review) In a cold, medieval forest, a warrior (Christopher Rygh) stalks the land eternally hunting for one more monster head to add to his collection… but this decapitation would offer our hero sweet revenge! While at it’s heart an absolute exercise in minimalism, this film is everything I crave from genre cinema; unique, inventive, and packed with sweet, sweet creatures! Grim, grizzly, nihilistic, and often breathtaking; The Head Hunter is easily one of the best horror pics that has come down the putrid pike in a damn sight! -Dan XIII 9. The Lighthouse (review) Robert Eggers (The Witch) is back with his new venture into the dramatic, psychological horror with The Lighthouse starring Willem Dafoe. Set on an isolated island in New
