Movie Review: Tales of Frankenstein (2018)

One of the more popular genres in our beloved horror biz these days is the arcane anthology, and while most of these are tied together by a basic, generic theme, it’s rare to see one with a laser sharp focus on one sinister subject. Well, to rectify that comes writer/director Donald F. Glut’s Tales of Frankenstein which focuses exclusively on Dracula… I’m just fuckin’ with ya, of course everyone’s fearsome fav pile of rando parts and stitches is the hot topic… in one form or another… Story Numero One-o, My Creation, My Beloved is set in the late 1800’s and focuses on a physically deformed relative of ol’ Victor F. who sets out to create the perfect man and woman. He kinda/sorta succeeds as the man is an Adonis type and the woman is gorgeous… well, except for the bolts in their foreheads, the angry stitch-work, and the dead flesh covering their beastly bones. This is a fun lil’ yarn,

Movie Review: Hellarious (2019)

Here it comes boils n’ ghouls; the latest arcane anthology to come a stormin’ into our beloved horror biz; Hellarious! Let’s see what this fright flick has to offer us horror hounds, shall we? Well I can tell you one thing it doesn’t offer, and that’s a wrap-around segment… Chapter One weaves the yarn of a small gaggle of grocery store employees closing up shop for the night. After leaving her charges in order to use the ter-let, the store manager returns to find some of her peers stark raving bonkers after enduring some unknown trauma or another… and trust me, when revealed the answer is as satisfyingly ludicrous as one could expect Comprised of a fun script (well acted) that takes the piss out of creature features, while presenting a unique twist on the genre as well, our first story sets the bar very high for the rest of the terror tales in this thing… Chapter Two brings us

Movie Review (GenreBlast Film Festival): Bloodsucker’s Planet (2019)

Bloodsucker’s Planet screened at GenreBlast, which ran at the Alamo Drafthouse in Winchester, Virginia, from August 29– September 1. Fans of space opera creature features such as The Green Slime (1968) and Mario Bava’s Planet of The Vampires (1965; an obvious influence here) are sure to find loads to love about writer/director/cinematographer/editor/producer Mark Beal’s outrageously fun new film Bloodsucker’s Planet. In the distant future, the spaceship Argosy picks up a distress signal from the planet Mara. Captain McDermott (Allen Menefee) decides to have his crew investigate, with everyone heading down to Mara except second-in-command Clarissa (Leni Mex), who remains aboard the ship. Doc (Joel Jeremy Herrera), Paulina (Adrienne Dobson), and Danvers (Logan Hooks) have a look-see, during which time Danvers comes into contact with a small creature that looks like a tentacled bat. The planet’s sole human resident, Bartlett (Joe Grisaffi), has chosen to remain on Mara as caretaker for a large corporation that abandoned its mud farming industry years

Blu-ray Review: Scooby-Doo, Where are You!: The Complete Series Limited Edition Box Set

*Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own. Talk about a well timed release eh, cats n’ creeps? As the evenings grow colder and Autumn grows near, it is the perfect time for monsters and mystery, and what better way to celebrate that than with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Blu-ray release (for the first time no less) of the classic creepy cartoon Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!? Spread out over four diabolical discs we get all 41 episodes of the original run of this arcane animated classic. But, what exactly is Scooby Doo about (asks no one because everyone knows who the unholy hell Scooby Doo is and his whole bag)? Well, I’m glad you (didn’t) ask! Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! Concerns the adventures of the eponymous main character; a Great Dane who’s afraid AF of nearly everything that even remotely seems related

Movie Review: Hoax (2019)

A group of attractive young folks are fucking around in the woods (literally) when something that appears for all the world to be the legendary Bigfoot rips the gang from asshole to elbow. Enter: Down on his luck reality TV producer Rick Paxton (Ben Browder) who assembles a crack team, who’s ranks include the great Brian Thompson (Cobra, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation), to schlep out into the woods and prove the murders were committed by the legendary cryptid, all for the sake of high ratings. Naturally, it doesn’t take long for something to begin hunting our heroes, and as tensions within the group mount, the truth they have to confront is way more than they bargained for. So what’s good with Hoax? Well, the Colorado countryside is scenic as all fuck, and is put to good use to make the group feel well and truly isolated. Speaking of the group, the acting is strong among our protagonists, with lead Cheryl Texiera

Alexandre Aja’s Making An Interactive Horror Movie

Alexandre Aja‘s creature feature Crawl is currently baring its teeth in theaters. It appears that the director isn’t wasting any time, he has already found his next project. It’s a “haunted house” movie, according to Collider. The currently untitled movie was written by Aja, Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs), and Jeff Howard who was behind Netflix’s huge hit series “The Haunting of Hill House.” Aja is taking an interesting approach, it will be an interactive movie, think “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.” To achieve the movie Aja and Amblin are partnering with Kino Industries’ CtrlMovie tech. The viewer at theaters will be able to vote on the direction and narrative the story takes. For those watching at home, they will be able to influence the storyline via a phone app. We’ll update you when we know more.

Blu-ray Review: Night of the Creeps (1986)

In 1959, some naked-ass alien bastards chuck an experiment from their spacecraft which crashes on Earth…where some young lovers, Pam and Johnny believe it is a falling star. As her date investigates, Pam is murdered by an ax-wielding maniac on the loose (that her ex-beau police officer Ray Cameron warned the duo about earlier in the evening). Meanwhile Johnny is infected by an alien slug that hops down his throat…so the night is pretty much a bust for both of them. Flash forward to 1986, and college students Chris (Jason Lively) and J.C. (Steve Marshall) try and join a douchey fraternity to impress Cynthia Cronenberg (Jill Whitlow), the woman of Chris’ dreams. In order to complete that task, our heroes are tasked with stealing a corpse and placing it in front of a rival fraternity…which they fuck up in spectacular fashion when they free Johnny’s cryogenically frozen body…which isn’t as dead as everyone would hope. Soon Johnny has released his

New Small Town Monsters Documentary Explores The Legend Of ‘Momo: The Missouri Monster’

A new “docu-drama” from indie film production company, Small Town Monsters, seeks to tell the true and truly strange story of the Missouri Monster. The hair-covered, three-toed monstrosity was said to have prowled the forests of “Star Hill” near Louisiana, Missouri during the summer of 1972 where it was seen by terrified citizens for weeks. The case gained national media attention during the ’70s and remains one of the largest tourist draws for the tiny town, which sits on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first trailer for the film debuts today and hints at the storytelling devices employed, as well as some of the fascinating interviews and locations. The latest release from Small Town Monsters and director, Seth Breedlove, is told in narrative and documentary form. The narrative sections appear under the guise of a lost b-movie from the 70s. The horror film depicts the widely believed details of the MOMO story (said to have been inspired by

Movie Review: Head Count (2018)

Evan (Isaac W. Jay) and his older bro Peyton (Cooper Rowe) are spending some quality time together, now matter how disparate their personalities. You see, Evan is a college party dude, and Peyton is a clean livin’ type, balls deep into New Age bullshit who resides in a trailer in the desert…so fun is in short supply. Before long our heroes soon cross paths with a group of students on a hike…and that group contains a comely lass named Zoe (Ashleigh Morghan) who Evan gets an instant case of the hornies for…so it’s “later bro” to ol’ Peyton…even though our boy is awkward A.F. around Z-dawg. So what do these gang of goofs do for funsies? Why get loaded and read rando terror tales from a Creepypasta-esque website…which summons a shape-shifting Hisji, a demon totally all up in the number five and as is always the case, the fight to survive this preternatural menace is well and truly on! Let’s

The first trailer for Alexandre Aja‘s new movie Crawl is here and it’s filled with Floods and Florida’s deadliest predators, Alligators.
