High School Can Be Hell: A First Look at Mike Flanagan’s New “Carrie” Series

Get ready for a brand-new, blood-soaked coronation, because Prime Video is officially bringing Stephen King’s very first masterpiece, “Carrie,” back to life. This time, the telekinetic prom queen is under the meticulous care of modern horror maestro Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass). Entertainment Weekly dropped a massive first-look preview of “Carrie,” an eight-episode limited series slated to slice into our streaming queues this autumn. Led by Summer H. Howell (The Midnight Club) in the titular role, the series promises to completely reinvent the 50-year-old classic for a generation raised on screens and algorithms. A Cruel, Modern High School Ecosystem Flanagan isn’t looking to lazily replicate Brian De Palma’s iconic 1976 cinematic adaptation or King’s epistolary novel. Instead, this version takes the familiar tragedy and plugs it directly into the toxic, terrifying matrix of the social media age. According to the official synopsis: Misfit high‑schooler Carrie White has spent her life hidden away in her home with

Keith Carradine Joins Brie Larson for ‘Skeltons,’ from the Director of Strange Darling

The monster movie renaissance is officially digging up some serious talent. Deadline reports that “Dexter” and “Fear the Walking Dead” alum Keith Carradine has joined the cast of Skeletons. It’s a highly anticipated new creature feature from J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot. Carradine joins Academy Award-winning Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) for the film described as a “modern, elevated take on the classic creature horror film.” The project is a major collaborative effort between Infrared, Bad Robot Productions, and Assemble Media. A Horrifying Domestic Secret The film is based on the acclaimed short story “Fail-Safe” by Bram Stoker Award-nominated author Philip Fracassi. Skeletons shifts the traditional monster-movie lens into the domestic sphere. The story is told entirely from the perspective of a young boy. He gradually realizes that his picturesque family life is a lie. However, as he digs deeper, he discovers that his parents are harboring a disturbing secret regarding his mother’s (Brie Larson) true, monstrous nature. Infrared President of

Mike Flanagan Wraps Production on His Mysterious ‘The Exorcist’ Film

The power of Christ compelled him, and the cameras have officially stopped rolling. Horror maestro Mike Flanagan has officially wrapped filming on his highly anticipated, top-secret installment of The Exorcist franchise! The acclaimed director took to Instagram to celebrate the massive production milestone with fans: “That’s a wrap. What an incredible experience. Forever grateful to this extraordinary cast and crew!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mike Flanagan (@flanaganfilm) A Fresh Holy War Do not expect a lazy rehash of William Friedkin’s pristine 1974 masterpiece. Do not expect a direct sequel to 2023’s’ widely panned The Exorcist: Believer, either. Instead, Flanagan is crafting an entirely original, standalone narrative set within the deeper margins of the universe. Flanagan is openly aiming for the throat with this highly confidential script, promising an absolute gauntlet of terror. The Thrilling Best-Seller 'The Chain' Gets the Series Order from HBO

The Thrilling Best-Seller ‘The Chain’ Gets the Series Order from HBO

Imagine the worst phone call a parent could ever receive: your child has been kidnapped. Now, imagine the ransom isn’t a briefcase full of unmarked bills. Instead, it’s a demand to go out and abduct someone else’s kid. Welcome to the moral meat-grinder limited series “The Chain.” This deeply disturbing, ethically bankrupt premise originates from Adrian McKinty‘s bestselling 2019 novel. HBO has officially locked it down for a prestigious eight-episode limited series. If you thought your family dynamics were stressful, wait until this hits your screens. Stephen King Approved (So, Prepare to Be Traumatized) You know a thriller is appropriately twisted when the Master of Horror himself stands up and applauds. Stephen King is a massive fan of the original novel, publicly crowning it a “nightmarish story” that is “incredibly propulsive and original.” King threw in a final ominous warning for good measure: “You won’t shake it for a long time.” Consider ourselves thoroughly warned. Jodie Comer Facing the Unthinkable

The Cast of “The Institute” Talk Season One in Our Interview

“The Institute,” based on Stephen King’s novel, has been officially renewed for its second season by MGM+. Getting renewed was one of the topics discussed during my interview with the cast. “The Institute” follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis (played by Joe Freeman). A young man who is kidnapped. He wakes up in a mysterious facility called The Institute. It’s a place filled with children who all arrived the same way he did. And they all possess unusual abilities that the Institute uses for nefarious purposes. Meanwhile, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (played by Ben Barnes) has come looking to start a new life. However, peace won’t last for long. His story and Luke’s are destined to collide following a terrifying series of events. I recently sat down with three of the series’ stars: Joe Freeman (Luke), Simone Miller (Kalisha), and Fionn Laird (Nicky). Watch as the cast discusses the series, their characters, and what they hope

Salem’s Lot, The Monkey, new adaptations of Stephen King‘s classic novels, seem to be constantly heading your way, not that we’re complaining! The latest adaptation is from Edgar Wright, the acclaimed director behind Shaun of the Dead and Last Night in Soho. He’s bringing a new adaptation of The Running Man to the big screen. Not only is Wright directing, but he will also be producing alongside his longtime partners, Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. Glen Powell, known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, will lead the cast as the protagonist. Joining him is Katy O’Brian, who recently starred in Love Lies Bleeding. New ‘Salem’s Lot’ Clip Bares its Fangs to Celebrate Premiere

Vampires, werewolves, and ghosts, oh my. It’s officially spooky season, and a horde of great movies are being released. One movie that should be at the top of your watch list this week is Gary Dauberman and MAX’s new adaptation of Stephen King’s classic tale, Salem’s Lot, which I called “worth sinking your fangs into” in my mostly spoiler-free review. The film’s impressive ensemble cast includes Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, Bill Camp, and Spencer Treat Clark—all of whom we interviewed about the film. Pilou Asbaek, William Sadler, John Benjamin Hickey, Nicholas Crovetti, and Debra Christofferson round out the cast. Salem’s Lot is set in 1975, the same year King’s original novel was published. It follows author Ben Mears, who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot. Haunted by a childhood incident, Mears seeks inspiration for his next book. However, Ben soon discovers that the town is being terrorized by a bloodthirsty vampire and its loyal servant. To celebrate
