Movie Review: The Dark (2018)

Ol’ Josef Hofer (Karl Markovics) is one bad hombre, and he is hell bent to get to a remote location, in this case a supposedly haunted house, where he can lie low. Once there, he finds the arcane abode inhabited by a sole occupant; Mina (Nadia Alexander) who admits to being the “monster” the locals are on about…and she is in fact an undead, flesh eatin’ ghoul who lives in her old home and munches on the occasional traveler. Buuut, no mere zombie is she; nope…she can remember her past, speak, and generally display a whole spectrum of emotions…emotions that come to the fore as she becomes attached to Josef’s teenage hostage Alex (Toby Nichols)…a boy he blinded and mentally fucked up six ways to Sunday. Speaking of fucked up, we learn that our ghastly heroine had an alcoholic mother and was sexually abused by her boyfriend. Now with John Q. Law looming near, will Mina surrender Alex over to

Short Film Review: Trick r’ Treat (2018)

Trick r’ Treat begins with a woman (Julie Landriault) finding a stack of missing children flyers on the windshield of her car. Later that night she receives a visit from some ghostly trick r’ treaters (Johnny Elston, Ricky Elston, and Daniel Elston) who may not be what they seem! Running a compact minute and thirty seconds (two minutes with credits), Trick r’ Treat is an effective lil’ supernatural shocker. Writer/Director Andrew J.D. Robinson presents the piece with an economy of storytelling, and with some fun cinematic touches. The first act is presented in stark black and white giving it a Night of the Living Dead vibe, while the second have is presented in warm colors…it’s well done and gives the two disparate acts a unique flavor. Also well done are the visuals for the trick r’ treaters themselves…simple sheets and a bit of make-up adds up to a palpable sense of menace from these terror tykes! Bottom line, Trick r’

Ghost To Honor Fallen Fan With Halloween Concert

On May 31st at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, a concert being performed by the Swedish metal band Ghost abruptly stopped after a fan collapsed in the audience, ending the show in order to allow medical aid to be administered to the fallen fan. Sadly, concertgoer Jeff Fortune passed away. A GoFundMe was set up to help raise money for Fortune’s family but an unlikely helping hand emerged from the aether, Cardinal Copia (Tobias Forge) himself. Ghost wanted to not only give back to their fans from the sold-out night that did not get a chance to see the show end but to finish the show for Fortune. To have a show finished by your favorite band in your name is not only awesome but an honor and in typical Ghost fashion, the show at Riverside Theater will be held Halloween night. Fans who were present at the May 31st show have till September 30th to RSVP this special event.

Viral Twitter Ghost Story Dear David Getting A Feature Film

“My apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he’s trying to kill me. That is how the viral tale of Buzzfeed writer Adam Ellis’ Twitter ghost story Dear David started back in August of 2017, which he still claims is a true story. I’ve never been interested in convincing anyone that ghosts are real–I just wanted to tell my story,” Ellis has stated. “If it was all fiction, I probably would’ve updated more than once every couple weeks.” The Twitter tale follows Ellis as he documents the alleged haunting of his apartment by a young boy with a dent in his head. Ellis has now announced that Dan Lin (Stephen King’s IT) is set to produce a feature film based on Ellis’ story. https://twitter.com/moby_dickhead/status/1004475290599518208 Mike Van Waes (The Crooked Man) is penning the script. BuzzFeed Studios’ Lauren Dolgan and Hieu Ho (Master Class) will produce alongside Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Death Note).

Ghost’s Papa Emeritus I, II, And III Are Touring…Sort Of

Ghost fans will be happy to hear that the three original Papas will be on Ghost’s new tour and VIPs will get to meet them…there’s only a catch…they’re dead. In the latest video put out by Ghost (see below) it shows the three original Papas (playing Uno) before being told that they’re being reinstated and will be going on tour and will be immortalized. Soon afterward you see on of the Nameless Ghouls come up behind Papa Emeritus III and jabbing a syringe in his neck. Next, there’s a sort of music video where you see the Papas being embalmed and dressed up, implying that the three Papas were euthanized to make way for the new frontman Cardinal Copia. It’s been implied in past videos that the three Papas were brothers, part of a “pure” bloodline in which Copia is not. I feel this is setting the stage for a bigger story that will unravel towards the end of Copia’s

GHOST’s New Frontman Reviled Along With ‘Rats’

Swedish metal band GHOST revealed through videos on their youtube channel the arrival of the new frontman taking over for Papa Emeritus III, Cardinal Copia. The Cardinal is nothing like his three predecessors according to Papa Nil, all came from the same pure bloodline but Cardinal Copia only got the position because of he’s Nil’s right-hand man and has a good work ethic as he was the employee of the month many times. The Cardinal along with the three past front men Papa Emeritus (I, II, III) are all portrayed by Tobias Forge. As of right now, it’s unknown if Cardinal Copia will don the skull make up the past frontmen were known for but he has the signature black eye makeup (under a latex mask) and the white eye contact lens in the left eye. Copia’s appearance resembles that of Vincent Price with the pencil thin mustache. The change in appearance has extended to the band members themselves, the

Movie Review: Veronica is a Fun Supernatural Yarn

Veronica has got it rough all over; since her father died her mother has to work mega long hours leaving V-dawg in charge of her young siblings…when she isn’t attending classes at the local Catholic school that is. Speaking of that school, Veronica and two of her friends get the absolutely dip-shit idea to head down into the building’s basement during a solar eclipse to use a Ouija board to contact their dead loved ones. This goes about as well as one would expected and Veronica suffers some sort of physical episode. This leads to an outre presence making itself known at her home that threatens to destroy Veronica and her entire family. Will our young heroine be able to force those ghost back into whatever nether hell they emerged from, or will she lose herself to the darkness? Veronica is an interesting film for a number of reasons, and this may come a surprise given how familiar the story

Ghost Hints New Frontman, Announces Tour

The metal band Ghost (sometimes known as Ghost BC) is known for their theatrical performance on and off the stage thanks to the mysterious priest-like lead singer Papa Emeritus. The band’s lore adds to the mystery of the characters in the band who are supposed to be part of a satanic order bringing the teachings of the devil to listeners. Fans of Ghost know this is a well-rehearsed act and that the band members are just characters as one of the band members that are known as Nameless Ghouls, stated in an interview once that when it comes to faith every member of the band has their own beliefs. Over the years Papa has been changed over three times, the only change in the name is that a number is put in the name; recently the band had Papa Emeritus III. Along with the change of Papa was a change in personality, Papa Emeritus III was considered to be the

Movie Review: The Lullaby Will Ensure You Sleep Uneasy!

Teen mom Chloe returns home to Eden Rock in order to have the support of her mother in raising her infant son. Man it would suck if the place was a concentration camp a hundred or so years ago where babies were summarily executed. Anyway, that baby gets to constantly cryin’, Chloe falls into a depression, and begins seeing and hearing signs that her baby may be haunted. Despite the fact that her family and psychologist think she is just stressed the F out being a new mother and all, the evil omens grow ever more intense and dark secrets are revealed that push our heroine further over the edge. The Lullaby is a dreary, dark, and at times difficult fright flick to endure. Chloe (played to perfection by Reine Swart) is a stressed out, angsty hot mess, which definitely helps audience unease, and the underlying subject matter of violence towards infants is rather off-putting as well. I’m of two

Japan’s Cursed Ghost Story?

Japan is a unique country because of its ability to embrace the changing world around them while still having hold of its cultural roots. Storytelling, a fixture in Japanese entertainment, evolved over the years and the introduction of motion picture help not only tell stories of the past to newer generations but to outsiders curious about Japan’s culture. One story that’s been told for generations has been seen on stage numerous times and performed at Kabuki venues for as long as many can remember. This tale of betrayal and vengeance from the other world has made an impact on the entertainment industry that it can be said it inspired movies like Ju-On: The Grudge and The Ring, not only is the story famous for its impact on modern Japanese ghost stories but it’s said to be cursed because the vengeful spirit that’s center of the story is real. The story is called Yotsuya Kaidan, sometimes referred to The Story of
