DVD Review: Little Joe (2019)

Alice (Emily Beecham) toils away breeding plants packed full of good ol’ genetic engineering that her company hopes to sell for a tidy profit along with her co-worker Chris (Ben Wishlaw). One of their major finds is a plant that releases a scent that stimulates happiness in people’s brains. I’m sure nothing wrong will happen involving that experiment… Something goes wrong with that experiment, and soon the plant, dubbed ‘Little Joe’, subtly changes everyone that breathes it’s pollen so that they are happy as clams as intended, but they give zero shits about the outside world and anyone not under Joe’s sway. Will anyone escape the assimilation to happy town, or will the world become strung out on that sweet, sweet Joe? Little Joe is one odd lil’ flick boils n’ ghouls! For starters this is a rather low key, detached affair, a style choice that accentuates the fact that the only way the world can be happy is through

Movie Review: Kill Ben Lyk (2018)

All across jolly ol’ London-towne a masked bloke is offing people named Ben Lyk. this causes a ton of static for Ben Lyk (Eugene Simon), a wannabe social media gadfly who is a likable, if not very entertaining to watch, online presence. Soon, our hero finds himself in a safe-house, along with an ass-load of other Ben Lyks (of which there are a surprising number of) as the constabulary have gotten wise to the Lyk related homicides and rounded-up all potential victims. That of course is a right shit idea, and soon our Terminator stand in makes the scene, and our main man Ben is balls deep in trouble as he tries to deduce just why these Ben Lyk eliminations are going down in the first place! Running a scant 77 minutes, Kill Ben Lyk is consistently funny, suspenseful, and at times completely pitch black. It’s also rather timely as one of the Ben Lyk’s is a male-to-female transitioned former

Movie Review: Debunkers, Inc. (2019)

The Debunkers; amateur detectives, video game enthusiasts, eternal virgins… okay, I made that last bit up, but it can be inferred with a large probability of being true… wait, where was I? Oh yeah, The Debunkers; Link (Josh Pinkowski), Snake (Izzy Pollak) and Dr. Mario (Blake Kevin Dwyer)… along with new recruit, Canadian foreign exchange student Shiek (Nicole DuBois) are the premier mystery debunking business in their town, a town that doesn’t exactly seem like it would be a hotbed of mysteries which makes their profit margin rather low I’d wager. Of course that all changes when two desperate girls, Heather and Joyce by name, come a-knocking with a real puzzler… figuring out who put the murder biz on their gal pal Nina. With a murderer around, The Debunkers will surely die… the end… okay, maybe they will prevail and become true heroes… but my money is on their demise. Look, I’ll lay it on the line here, Debunkers Inc.

Movie Review: Braid (2018)

Fugitives Petula (Imogen Waterhouse) and Tilda (Sarah Hay) go on the lam after police raid their apartment for drugs. Of course they have to recoup the cash they lost to pay their supplier, so they get a brilliant idea…pay a visit to their childhood friend Daphne’s (Madeline Brewer) sprawling, isolated estate and rob the lady blind! Should be easy except for one thing; Daphne is crazier than a shit house rat, and the only way to get her to part with her dough is to play a game the girls developed in childhood. About that game; Tilda plays as Daphne’s daughter and Petula stars as “Doctor.” It’s all rather bizarre…and by rather bizarre I mean completely off it’s tits insane…so much so, that our heroines may lose more than they bargained through on their quest for cash as events become darker and darker! While the above sinister synopsis sounds pretty straightforward, I can promise you that the execution of the

Noir & Horror Collides In ‘Dollhouse’

Creazn Studio and Soedesco will be combining the mysterious thrills of film noir with atmospheric unease of horror in their upcoming game Dollhouse. As suggested above, this game is a devilishly creepy hybrid of telling a noir type story with elements of horror. The game centers around a detective named Marie who’s trying to solve the death of her daughter all the while trying to regain her memory of the events surrounding it. Marie is not alone; something sinister hauntingly hunts her as she tries to unravel the truth. In the game, players will be able to upgrade Marie’s 40+ skills as they traverse the ever-changing surroundings that ensure no two game plays are the same. Dollhouse will also include a multiplayer game where you can choose from 14 playable characters, each with a unique backstory, and have a target selected for you to murder. Dollhouse will be released in 2019 for Windows and PlayStation 4.

Blu-ray Review: The Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion (1970)

Lonely (and rich) housewife Minou (Dagmar Lassander) spends her time pining for the affection of her husband Peter (Pier Paolo Capponi) who is never around. While walking alone one night, Minou is accosted by a weirdo who tells her Peter is, in fact, a murderer. She pays this insanity no mind, but soon the evidence appears to back up the stranger’s claims, and Minou finds herself tumbling into an ever deeper abyss of blackmail at the hands of the devious (and horny) creeper. Will Minou be able to regain a semblance of a normal life and escape this ordeal with her sanity intact or will she be destroyed by the blackmailer’s game? The Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion appears to be a giallo, but honestly it isn’t; no black gloved killer appears…hell, no murder appears in the film at all…but what the film is is a mystery with giallo window dressing. Director Luciano Ercoli has infused the piece

Movie Review: Monster Party (2018)

Dodge (Brandon Micheal Hall), Casper (Sean Strike) and Iris (Virginia Gardner) are small potatoes in the crime scene…just a trio o’ pals committing low-level burglaries and the like…but soon they set their eyes on a bigger prize. Ya see, C-dawg’s pops is in some serious shit with a loan shark to whom he owes ten large and the gang gets the neon light idea to pose as caterers and rob a rich AF family, The Dawsons by name, during a din-din shindig being held at their palatial estates while the family is occupied with the festivities at hand. The only problem? These Dawson characters are a weird lot. Patriarch Patrick (Julian McMahon) and son Elliot (Kian Lawley) are off-putting as balls, though to be fair at first glance mother Roxanne (Robin Tunney) and daughter Alexis (Erin Moriarty) are relatively normal. As for the party itself, it’s comprised of only male guests minus one female participant (who desperately asks our faux

Oh Deer! Buck Carrying Severed Head Of Another Shot

WARNING: The following images may be disturbing to some It’s that time of year where many hunters enjoy the seasonal window to go out and hunt deer. As is the tradition with the hunting season comes to the stories about the ones that got away, past trophies, and seeing strange things while out in the woods. Bob Long of Kentucky, hands down, won with a super rare and disturbing kill this past week. Long bagged himself a buck, not just any buck, a two-headed one. Sounds like a freak of nature right? Well… turns out the second head, whose rack (antlers) was tangled in the rack of the shot buck and the second head does not “belong” to the animal! Yes, the decomposing head on the harvested male belonged to another buck! The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife believe it’s possible that the second deer was already dead and decomposing when the then-living buck encountered it, the buck possibly

Review Of ‘Remothered: Tormented Fathers’ for Xbox One

The cool hardworking folks over at Darril Arts gave me the opportunity to play the Xbox One version of their awesome horror-stealth game ‘Remothered: Tormented Fathers’ in a previous article I spoke of this. The game is out now on PC but will be out on PS4 and Xbox ONE July 25th. It’s been a while since a horror game actually spooked me! I would play the game, take a break from it and partially vow to never play again but the story drew me back in because I wanted to see what happens next! The story takes place in 1970’s Italy and follows a woman named Rosemary Reed who came to the mansion of Dr. Felton to ask about his health while in reality, her true intention is to find out what happened to his daughter Celeste who has gone missing years ago. After her investigation abruptly ends, she breaks into the mansion at night and quickly things get

Black Phillip Is Baaaaaack…In ‘POP!’ Form!

The hidden antagonist, Black Phillip, will soon be hitting the selves as a Funko Pop! Black Phillip was from, The Witch, the 2015 film that was either loved or hated by audiences (Me personally, I was disappointed in it). WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD! The story follows a Puritan family that left a “sinful” society to make a new homestead out in the wilderness. Their joy soon turns to terror as unusual incidents occur surrounding the eldest daughter Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), causing increase paranoia amongst the family members. It’s reviled earlier in the film that the “witch” really existed and that there was a coven of them living nearby the new homestead and that the family goat named Black Phillip was their leader and the devil in disguise the whole time. END OF SPOILERS The POP! vinyl of Black Phillip (see below) is a happy looking black goat with yellow eyes, blood-spattered horns rearing up on its hind legs. He’ll also come
