After years of rumors, we are finally getting a Beetlejuice sequel. According to their sources, THR reports that Netflix’s favorite dark darling, Jenna Ortega, who stars as Wednesday in the Netflix series, is in talks to star in Beetlejuice 2.
Tim Burton, who works with Ortega on “Wednesday,” is expected to return to direct for Warner Bros. The sequel will also see the return of Michael Keaton, who starred as “the ghost with the most,” Beetlejuice in the 1988 classic. There is no word if Winona Ryder will return as Lydia Deetz, but we hope she will.
According to THR, “Production is eying a late May or early June shoot in London, but budget has not been set, resulting in a back and forth. If a deal is made, sources say Ortega would play the daughter of Lydia, the character played by Winona Ryder in the original.”
Burton directed the original, which has become a cult favorite. In the film, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis starred as a ghost couple. When their home is sold to the Deetz family, the ghosts try to scare the family out with the help of Beetlejuice.
You can currently watch Ortega in “Wednesday,” now streaming on Netflix, and Season 2, which will be along shortly. You can also catch her in Scream VI, now playing in theaters.
