Since the first report on the casting of Christian Slater and Patrick Gibson for the upcoming “Dexter” prequel spin-off, “Dexter: Original Sin,” back in May, news has begun to roll in, with more stars being revealed.

The latest update is that “Grey’s Anatomy” star Patrick Dempsey will be a series regular in Showtime’s “Dexter: Original Sin.” Patrick Dempsey portrays Captain Aaron Spencer, head of the Miami Metro Homicide Department. He shares a long and complex history with Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry Morgan, played by Slater.

Dexter: Original Sin” stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter Morgan, initially portrayed by Michael C. Hall in the original series that first premiered in 2006. The prequel explores Dexter’s formative years in Miami, where he grapples with his dark urges while confiding in his father figure, Harry. Harry, a homicide detective, instills Dexter’s infamous “Code” – a set of rules guiding him to target and eliminate those who escape the justice system.

The new series delves into young Dexter’s challenges as he balances his homicidal desires with a newfound internship in Miami Metro’s forensics department.

This prequel follows the limited series “Dexter: New Blood,” which also saw Clyde Phillips as showrunner. “New Blood” concluded with a shocking but fitting twist.

Dexter: Original Sin” will premiere on Showtime in the US and Paramount+. Fans can now catch up on the original “Dexter” on Showtime and Netflix. Watch “Dexter: New Blood” now streaming on Showtime and Prime Video.
