Arrow Video FrightFest Gets Even More “Mean Spirited” with This Horror Comedy Addition

After announcing its stellar lineup for this year a few days ago, the U.K.’s Arrow Video FrightFest gives fear-fare fans even more to look forward to, as it has added horror comedy Mean Spirited to the petrifying proceedings! Following is the official press announcement. Director Jeff Ryan’s thoroughly entertaining found-footage horror comedy MEAN SPIRITED will receive its World premiere at this year’s Arrow Video FrightFest event. It will be screened on Sunday 28 August, 1.15pm at the Cineworld, Leicester Sq., Screen 1. Synopsis: When two estranged friends reconnect, things buried deep down are bound to surface. Wannabe famous vlogger Andrew Castellano, aka ‘The Amazing Andy’, sets off for a weekend with his former friend turned famous actor Bryce. After receiving the invitation to Bryce’s mountain cottage, Andy has decided to bury the hatchet. Unfortunately he isn’t quite himself anymore . . . Movie Reviews: “Chiaksan Mountain” and “The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra” (Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival)

Chiaksan Mountain Writer/director Kim Sun-Ung’s science fiction/horror film Chiaksan Mountain leans heavily into the cabin in the woods scare-fare tropes — including a group of teenagers featuring an annoying girlfriend and an emotionally troubled main protagonist, being out of cell phone range, a local warning the disbelieving group members that they are destined to die, and so forth — but what it lacks in originality it makes up for in sheer gusto. A group of friends who are mountain biking enthusiasts go to the forest cottage of YeonJi’s (Kim YeWon) deceased father. Her cousin MinJoon (Yun KyunSang) is the group leader, and when floods of red light, ear-piercing noises, and strange entities in the woods begin terrifying the group, it’s just the beginning of horrifying things to come. From Executive Producer Dario Argento, U.K. chiller She Will seeps under the skin at a slow-burn pace that builds to a fitting climax. The U.K.’s Arrow Video FrightFest is one of our absolute favorite fear-fare film festivals here at Horror Fuel, and we are pleased to share the poster reveal for this year’s edition. We also can’t wait to tell you about their lineup, which will be revealed this Thursday, July 14! Arrow Video FrightFest is proud to present Graham Humphreys’ stand-out poster design for 2022, which marks the 14th appearance for his iconic Monster. Graham revealed today: “The predominant theme is a celebration of past ‘trophy’ films. I took my inspiration references from an old paperback cover ‘Vincent Price presents: The Price of Fear’, in which Vincent’s head is depicted mounted on a wooden shield. Movie Reviews: Chattanooga Film Festival Short Films “Cruise,” “Exo Sapien,” “Smile,” “Sucker,” and “Red Is the Color of Beauty”

Cruise Once, many, many moons ago, I worked a temporary job at a call center, and it was the most soul-sucking employment I have ever experienced. Writer/director Samuel Rudykoff’s horror comedy Cruise ratchets up things to another level as his short sees employees at a scam cruise-contest call center lose their souls along with their lives if they don’t close calls successfully. Jake (Chad Andrews) and Mark (Simon Pond) both give it their best shot, with an unforgiving supervisor (Ray James) keeping a close watch. The performances are all super solid, and Rudykoff does a great job building suspense while delivering laughs. Night Breakers Here’s a creature fraught with suspense not only from potential monster attacks but also from the apprehension and paranoid feelings between characters. A group of people — leader Joel (Andrew Tarbet), Mei (Chacha Huang), Sunna (Anna Gonzalvo), Trevor (Pol Fernandez), Martin (Marc Padró), and Jacob (Sergi Subirà) — are traversing a dark path through maze-like caves to reach a city. Each member is wearing strings of bright lights powered by ever-weakening batteries. These lights fend off vicious beasts but as soon as someone’s lights go out, they become monster chow. As batteries become more scarce, tensions rise and the humans become as dangerous as the creatures pursuing them.
