A new trailer for the big-budget Thai/Chinese co-production The Lake unleashes an incredible giant monster in the new trailer. The impressive animatronic creature was created by Jordu Schell, who also worked on films such as Cloverfield, The Thing, Starship Troopers, The Mist, Avatar, Men in Black, The Cabin in the Woods, and Predators. In The Lake, directed by Lee Thongkham and Aqing Xu and written by Lee Thongkham, “One child brings back a strange egg, soon realizing that it’s a monster egg. It emerged from the lake, and it now wants to kill everyone in the whole town.” The film has already premiered in theaters in Thailand. We’re still waiting to learn the US release date. In the meantime, check out the killer trailer, which features English subtitles.

Feardemic Games and DeppreSick Team have announced their upcoming game that promises to pay homage to the classics, Remorse: The List. Remorse: The List is a first-person horror explorer that will take players to the Hungarian town of Hidegpuszta to discover its secrets within its creepy dark suburbs. The only clue the players have is a mysterious list full of cryptic clues that they’ll have to solve all the while trying to survive what’s lurking in the dark. Remorse: The List will feature interconnected streets, parks, and abandoned buildings of a suburban Hungarian town, picking your own order of going through the list, an inventory system forcing you to mind your ammo, choosing between many melee and ranged weapons, and uncovering the story using many clues such as video tapes, voice recordings and more! Remorse: The List will be coming this October for Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation.

Wild Bones Dripping with dread and rich in unsettling atmosphere, writer/director Jack James’ Wild Bones (U.K. 2022) is a chilling look at a fracturing mind. Fay (Roxy Bugler) and her stepsister Alice (Mary Roubos) reconnect after their father mysteriously disappears and they inherit his house. Fay’s grasp on reality is slipping, along with her memory. Complicating matters, Fay becomes involved with the man with whom Alice arrived at their father’s home with, Gary (Tom Cray), despite Alice’s warnings about him. James’ film serves up several mysteries; because of Fay’s unreliable psychological state, viewers shouldn’t expect tidy answers. Bugler is superb as the disturbed Fay, and she and Roubos have marvelously realistic sibling chemistry together. James invests Wild Bones with haunting visuals and a tone that travels between deadly serious drama and eerie surreal sequences. The film has a decidedly gothic flavor, and the sound design greatly adds to the film’s mystique. Viewers who appreciate slow-burn and ambiguous fear fare should

Cult Hero Canadian horror comedy Cult Hero finds disgraced cult deprogrammer, reality television star, and self-described “cult buster” Dale Domazar (Ry Barrett of The Chamber of Terror) living off the grid a few years after an episode of his series featured him leading to the suicide of several cult members. It’s hard to tell whether his mannerisms are an affectation based on his favorite action heroes of yore or if he really lives his schtick. When high-strung, ill-mannered real estate agent Kallie (Liv Collins of Creep Nation) begins to suspect that the male retreat at which she dropped off her beta-male husband Brad (Justin Bott) may actually be a suicide cult, she contacts Domazar, who sees the paid gig as his potential comeback for a second series of his Cult Buster program. Filmax has released the first teaser trailer for Raul Cerezo and Fernando Gonzalez Gomez’s horror The Elderly, ahead of its World Premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival. In the Spanish film, “An octogenarian named Manuel (Zorion Eguileor) falls into a state of dementia after the sudden suicide of his wife, sparking a series of paranormal events that will put his family’s lives at risk.” “Starting as a grounded drama exploring the indignities of old age, The Elderly gradually snaps off one guardrail after another, building to a crescendo of sheer terror with imagery that can never be unseen,” Fantasia has stated. Chiaksan Mountain Writer/director Kim Sun-Ung’s science fiction/horror film Chiaksan Mountain leans heavily into the cabin in the woods scare-fare tropes — including a group of teenagers featuring an annoying girlfriend and an emotionally troubled main protagonist, being out of cell phone range, a local warning the disbelieving group members that they are destined to die, and so forth — but what it lacks in originality it makes up for in sheer gusto. A group of friends who are mountain biking enthusiasts go to the forest cottage of YeonJi’s (Kim YeWon) deceased father. Her cousin MinJoon (Yun KyunSang) is the group leader, and when floods of red light, ear-piercing noises, and strange entities in the woods begin terrifying the group, it’s just the beginning of horrifying things to come. The cast, which also features Bae GeuRin, Yoon JeWook, and Lee TeaHwan, does a solid job with performances, and the third act gets pretty bonkers. Director Kim builds the tension and mystery
