Banshee by Terry Maggert

Banshee by Terry Maggert is a science fiction and fantasy novel I was sent by the author to take a peek at. I intended to review it much sooner, but as you may read in the author’s note below, life is a very fickle thing. Initially what attracted me to this story was the focus on dragons and war. The promise of demons and monsters “sweeping across the planet in a wave of death” had my name written all over it. Who doesn’t love destruction and dragons? Book Description: Cities Fall. Dragons Rise. War Begins. The war for earth began in Hell. First came the earthquakes. Then came the floods. Finally, from the darkened mines, caves and pits, the creatures of our nightmares boiled forth to sweep across the planet in a wave of death. On the run and unprepared, mankind is not alone. We have dragons. Emerging from their slumber, giant dragons select riders to go to war. Their

Nightscape: Cynopolis by David Edwards

Being a horror reviewer is difficult, sometimes. I get emails multiple times a day with requests for me to review movies, books, shows… You name it, people are trying to get my eyes on it. Typically I can skim across these emails and not give them too much thought. (Needless to say, most don’t catch my eye. My reading/watching queue is way too long!) However, when I got the email last month regarding the Worldwind Book Tour for Nightscape: Cynopolis, I knew I had to pounce. Everything about this premise was unique, and I’ve always loved Egyptian mythology (where else does ones mind go when they read the phrase ‘jackal headed beasts’? Everything about this book screamed ‘must read’ and I knew I had to see if it would live up to the (arguably self-generated) hype. Book Description: Detroit’s eastside has seen its share of horrors. Once-proud factories gutted for scrap. Whole neighborhoods burned out and boarded up. Nature drained

Goosebumps for Goosebumps: The Game

If you were between the ages of 7-15 in the mid-90’s, you’ll no doubt have fond memories of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. It started with Welcome to Dead House back in ’92, a television series from ’95-’98, and has now made it’s way as a feature film due out in just over a week. On top of all that, WayForward has developed a game based on the series to coincide with the movie’s release. While most of WayForward’s games have been platformers, Goosebumps will be a Point-and-Click horror mystery – which reminds me a lot of the Choose Your Own Adventure style Goosebumps books. It seems like it will take you all over the Goosebumps world, encountering all our favourite creatures of the past. It’s got a cool cartoon art style, which is excellent for such a franchise. Rated E, it fits in nicely somewhere between fun and cartoony while still achieving the creepiness and scares Goosebumps is known for.

Sandy Collora Turning To Kickstarter For His Film Shallow Water: Terror Of The Deep

Sandy Collora is making a horror movie, his way. The veteran special effects artist, who worked for Stan Winston Studios, beginning at the age of 17 as a sculptor. Collora has an impressive portfolio that includes movies like Total Recall and Men in Black, as well as being a writer and director. Collora made this statement on his Kickstarter page: “I hear people complaining about how the Hollywood machine is cranking out the same stuff OVER AND OVER, choosing economic safety over the creative art of filmmaking. I grew up on the original Alien and Predator films. I love them. But where are the NEW iconic creatures and characters? How long has it been since we’ve seen something truly unique and powerful in a genre film? Too long. If Hollywood won’t do it, I will. With your help, we can raise enough independently to crowd fund a great genre film. Maybe together we can even change the paradigm a little

Martillo: Devil-Smiter by Greg Meldrum and David Broughton

Martillo: Devil-Smiter by Greg Meldrum and David Broughton is an independent comic by one of the creators of Spectre Show, which I reviewed a few weeks back. This story, while ripe with all the edgy artwork David Broughton typically brings to the table, is instead about 1950s Spain. A man stands between humanity and supernatural wickedness. …and Pablo Picasso, apparently. (I was as bewildered as you when I first read that, I promise.) Since I enjoyed Spectre Show, I definitely wanted to give Martillo a chance. Book Description: It is 1948, and General Franco’s fascist government rules Spain with an iron fist. Isolated from the rest of Europe, the country has become a breeding ground for supernatural wickedness – and that’s where Martillo comes in. A servant of the Saint of Labourers, Martillo wields a hammer and smites evil – HARD! In this collection, Martillo takes on pagan storm-gods, metal-obsessed spectres, sadistic thorn-monsters, gold-eating devil-weasels, hungry bogeymen and Pablo Picasso!

Help Bring The Hollywood Horror Museum To Life

There is currently a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the first educational nonprofit museum of it’s kind, The Hollywood Horror Museum. The museum would educate the public on the legacy of horror films, TV, makeup, art, and literature. The museum’s board includes a list of who’s who in horror, Clive Barker, Joe Dante, Tom Holland, Sean S. Cunningham, Victoria Price, Mick Garris, Jennifer Lynch, Tim Lucas, Jen and Sylvia Soska and Sara Karioff. “In March of 2015, when our Hollywood Science Fiction Museum was preparing for it’s 2016 exhibit, many Sci-Fi/Horror film props were offered to us including Alien and John Carpenter’s The Thing. It became apparent these gory props had no place in a science fiction museum that taught NASA space and real science through sci-fi, but since there is no nonprofit educational Horror Museum anywhere in the world that teaches filmmaking, special effects, makeup and the history of horror in films, TV, art and literature, we decided to
