Movie Review: Animal Among Us (2018)

Merrymaker Campgrounds has a bit of a bad rep…I mean sure two girls were savagely murdered there a few years back, but the case was chalked up to an animal attack and that’s all she wrote, right? Fuck no, what the hell kind of fright flick would that be?!! Enter horror author/college professor/philanderer Roland Baumgarner (Christian Oliver) who just so happened to write a book based on that hot mess mentioned above and heads out to Merrymaker to cut the ribbon at the camp’s grand re-opening. Once there he meets the rangers in charge; Anita and Poppy Bishop (Larisa Oleynik and Christine Donlon respectively), grizzled hunter Burl Wolf (Don Frye, and some frazzled survivors that claim they were fucked up six ways to Sunday by a monster…”animal attack” my ass! Of course the killing continues on and secrets are revealed that challenge everything our heroes know about the monster and themselves! Let’s start with the positives with Animal Among Us…and

Blu-ray Review: Godmonster of Indian Flats (1973)

After a whole mess of sheep, a cowboy (sheepboy?!!) in a furry vest playing the one armed bandit, rando joyriding, and four music changes (a heavenly chorus. some synthy fart noises, a brassy upbeat number, and some sort of stock score music) we get down to the real business with Godmonster of Indian Flats…namely that this film is batshit insane and possibly the product of a certified schizophrenic (or a director desperately trying to meet their run time…not a lot of difference really). Following all that we get a banjo band with a beatnik playing in a traditional old west saloon (like straight out of a John Wayne movie costumes and all)…and we finally get going on the story to this picture; namely that dude mentioned previous finds one hella fucked up newborn lamb (after he experiences a psychotronic freak out)…a find that is whisked away to the lab of scientific manly-man Dr. Clemens (E. Kerrigan Prescott…Christ, they just should

Blu-ray Review: Abominable (2006)

Preston Rogers (Matt McCoy), a wheelchair bound man recovering from a severe mountain climbing accident that took the life of his wife, takes his doctor’s advice and heads to a remote cabin in the wilderness near where the tragedy occurred to face his fears and heal in the peace and quite with his prize winning dick of a nurse, Otis (Christien Tinsley) in tow. Of course in exactly one p.h. after he arrives, a group of garrulous beauties takes up residence in the cabin next door…one of which our hero believes was abducted by a Bigfoot-like creature (a rational assumption) after spying on them with binoculars, though of course Otis thinks he’s insane. Well turns out P-man was correct-a-mundo as ‘Squatch is indeed on a kill-crazy rampage, and soon everyone within those wicked woods is fodder for the beast’s deadly desires…and surviving the night will become a near insurmountable challenge! Filled with absolutely tons of effective suspense, a gorgeous monster

Movie Review: Dead House (2014)

Three ultra-degenerates wander the affluent suburbs looking for families to abuse in their own trademarked way, namely; they film the matriarch and patriarch gettin’ it on in front of the rest of the family (how rude!) then they off everyone and steal whatever shit appeals to their greedy lil’ hearts. As is the way, nothing lasts forever…even cold November Rain…and rapey crime sprees because our terror trio picks on the wrong family when they come a knockin’ on the door of the Pontecorvo’s. You see this family harbors a secret zombie filled lab in their home (as you do), and that trio of beastly boobs of course unleash that hell resulting in the expected bloodbath…but just who will survive the onslaught? I’m going to cut right to the chase…Dead House (a.k.a. Beautiful People) takes waaaay too long to get to the arcane action! It’s nearly forty five minutes (out of an hour and thirteen minute run time…with credits) before the

Kaya Scodelario In Talks To Star In Alexandre Aja’s ‘Crawl’

Alexandre Aja, the director behind High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes, and Horns, is set to deliver the creature feature Crawl for Paramount. THR is reporting that Maze Runner actress Kaya Scodelario has now entered into negotiations to star in the film about “a young woman, who while struggling to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped inside a flooding house, fighting for her life against Florida’s most savage and feared predators (an alligator).” Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi will be producing along with Craig Flores (300: Rise of an Empire). Crawl follows up Paramount’s’ highly-successful film A Quiet Place, which has grossed over $236 at box offices so far. Its sequel has just been announced.

‘It Came From The Desert’ And It’s Headed To Your House This May

Back in 1989, Cinemaware released a game called It Came from the Desert, inspired by the 1950’s creatures features. Now, the game’s film adaptation is gearing up for its release next week from Roger! Pictures. You think ants at a picnic is bad, imagine giant mutated ants wreaking havoc in the desert. That’s exactly what this flick is about. “This pulpy, action monster movie is a nostalgic tribute to creature features from the 1950’s; it features rival motocross heroes and heroines, kegger parties in the desert, secret underground military bases, romantic insecurities…and of course, giant ants!” Directed by Marko Mäkilaakso (interview), who told us the film was also influenced by Eight Legged Freaks, It Came from the Desert was co-written by Hank Woon (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (68 Kill), and stars Vanessa Grasse, Mark Arnold, Harry Lister Smith, Claudia Trujillo, Alex Mills, and Aino Sirje. Roger!’s Teemu Virta and Alliance Media Partners (AMP) produced the film with the

Movie Review: Dead By Midnight (11pm Central) (2018)

A mysterious monster movie hostess (Erin Brown; Misty Mundae herself!) begins broadcasting her haunted Halloween hootenanny from within an abandoned studio owned by a doomed rural television station. As the night progresses we are treated to a cadre of creepy cool tales each inexplicably starring a different, and suddenly missing, member of the station’s staff! First up we get the ’80’s set creature feature Jersey Devil which concerns the misadventures of pre-teen Emma and the battered waitress that showed up on her doorstep going head to head with the legendary cryptid of the Pine Barrens. The comedic interplay between Avri Bartolozzi as Emma, and Davi Crimmins as the beleaguered waitress Dani is absolutely fantastic, the story is high on camp, and the creature suit is Grade-A fuckin’ badass…this is a solid gold winner in my beastly book (and if your listening, how about turning this one into a feature)! Next up is Creepy Dolls, in which a trio investigates an

Movie Review: Island Zero (2017)

Something is seriously wrong up in Maine; namely a small fishing island has become isolated A.F. thanks to the one ferry on or off the island disappearing. To make matters worse, the phone lines are dead, all boats to the mainland fail to return, and the entire place is under a power blackout. As food supplies dwindle and anxiety levels rise, folks start turning up mutilated and the island finds itself at the mercy of a monster from the deep! Beautifully shot on location, with plenty of steel-grey skies and rain to add to the dreary ambiance, Island Zero certainly looks the part of atmospheric creature feature! Adding to the strength of the picture are rock solid acting, a nice slow burn story line fraught with mounting tension (and a nice layer of mythology) as the isolation begins playing on an ever more desperate populace…and the human remains start popping up, and moments of well realized, practical gore. Sounds great,

DVD Review: Curse of the Mayans is a Serviceable Sci-Fi Adventure

Dr. Alan Green (Steve Wilcox…who looks alarmingly like Ridley Scott) discovers a manuscript that he believes holds the key to solving the disappearance of the Mayans centuries before, which results in him hiring a team of spunky spelunkers headed by Danielle Nobel (Carla Ortiz…who thankfully looks nothing like Ridley Scott since she has a nude scene) to put that pesky parchment to the test! Well these folks bitch and moan and trek through the jungle for a long, long time before they arrive at an underwater tomb from which they unleash an evil from beyond the stars. Kicking out the positive jams; this film is extremely well shot, and features some truly beautiful locations (yup, the film makers actually filmed in Mexico, at ancient Mayan ruins) that add an immeasurable amount of production value to Curse of the Mayans. Along with those vistas comes some solid acting, and a unique (if uneven) story…but the real show stopper is the cool
