Even Witchcraft Can’t Save ‘The Craft’ From Being Remade

When I started going through all the news about horror this morning I was shocked, saddened and infuriated to see that ‘The Craft’ has now been added to the very long list of movies set to get remade over the next two years. That’s right, Sony has ordered the remake of ‘The Craft’. (*Facepalm) Leigh Janiak, the writer of 2014’s ‘Honeymoon’, has been tasked with writing the script for the new version of the teenage witch thriller, along with Phil Graziadei who also co-wrote ‘Honeymoon’. The director and cast have yet to be announced for the project. The remake is still in the early phases of preproduction and does not have a release date at this time. I remember the first time I saw the 1996 teenage witch movie ‘The Craft’. The movie was fantastic, it put a spell on me. I must have watched that VHS a hundred time before my VCR ate it. To this day ‘The Craft’

A Victim Seeks Revenge In ‘Return To Sender’

It has been a while since I have come across a horror thriller with such a well known, award winning cast, as the one lined up for ‘Return To Sender’. The cast includes ‘Gone Girl’ actress Rosamund Pike, Rumer Willis (Sorority Row), Scout Taylor-Compton (Halloween II), Shiloh Fernandez (Evil Dead (2013)), Camryn Manheim (The Ghost Whisperer), Alexi Wasser (Cabin Fever 2) and acting legend Nick Nolte (Cape Fear). Director Fouad Mikati, writers Patricia Beauchamp and Joe Gossett have constructed a twisted tale about a woman (Pike) assaulted during a break in. The criminal is arrested and put behind bars. When she suddenly begins to visit the man in prison and builds a relationship with the man who forced himself on her, her father and friends are baffled by her behavior, but sometimes things aren’t exactly what they seem. Never doubt the lengths a will go too for revenge. ‘Return To Sender’ will be released by Image Entertainment some time later

Women in Horror Spotlight: Justina Walford

This week’s Women in Horror spotlight was selected, I confess, due to the fact that her wonderful new horror flick The Ladies of the House is out on VOD this week. (May 1st to be exact; mark it on your calendars!) She and her husband John Stuart Wildman are the writing team/creative whirlwind that is responsible for bringing the horror genre a story about rockabilly cannibal strippers. (Yes, you read right! Rockabilly. Cannibal. Strippers.) The film is an incredible joy to watch. Walford has been a huge part of the creation of the suspense driven thriller which is ridden with symbolism, foreshadowing, and excellent use of costume design and other elements to explain aspects of a story which would otherwise be unknown to the viewer. If you enjoy thinking and predicting outcomes in films as much as you enjoy viewing all the gorey details, you’ll love The Ladies of the House. Although her previous credits don’t include many horror titles,
