‘THE ICE CREAM TRUCK’: A Sweet Treat or a Gnarly Toothache?

Ice cream trucks are one of the few remaining relics from a time since gone bye, a traveling vehicle of sweets, playing it’s merry tune, bringing children running from their houses, scooping out joy one cone at a time. So of course a horror movie has to come along and make them fucked up. Enter The Ice Cream Truck, a surprisingly smart film about infidelity, reclaiming lost youth, and yes, a murderous ice cream man who stabs his customers after making them their favorite chocolate shake. Held together by strong acting, smart writing, and one of the creepier vehicles ever put to screen, this one is a real summer treat. Honestly, if you’re getting your deserts from anything that looks like a (barely) disguised peso van, you deserve to die. Deanna Russo does an absolutely fantastic job as scream queen Mary, a mom and (sometimes) writer for longs for her carefree youth. And carefree youth is dutifully supplied to her

Metal Comic ‘Realm Of The Damned’ Comes To Life

The monsters have won. Our world now belongs to them. Realm of the Damned: Tenebris Deos is a new UK animated motion comic of pure Black Metal horror that unleashes the classic gothic monsters on a modern rampage of redemption and damnation. Raw, fast-paced and bristling with atmosphere, this is a bloody and blasphemous epic that leaves no church unburned. If you like metal, blasphemy, animation, or horror in general, this film looks awesome! Granted, I am not a fan of the intro to the trailer, but when the actual trailer starts, the animation is beautifully dark. Boasting the voice talents of black metal superstars David Vincent (Morbid Angel), Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth) Jill Janus (Huntress) and Steve Beatty (October File), this ode to the merged world of metal and horror. Directed by Tom Paton based on the Graphic Novel with Original Story by Alec Worley. Animation by Craig Hinde & Reece Saunders. Produced by Tom Lind & Steve

Movie Review: ‘7 Witches’ Tries To Spin A Dreary And Atmospheric Yarn

Weddings are seen as a union between two people, but it’s also the joining of two families. And while everyone hopes for a harmonious merger of family units, it can be an incredibly awkward time…especially when the families ar meeting for the very first time. Add to that a palpable tension between the bride to a bride to be and her sister, as well as Kate’s ex-boyfriend (who Kate’s family thinks she’s still with) and the comfort level can just bottom out. Such would be the case with Kate Boyle, whose sister Rose is about to marry her fiance, Agatha Sklar. Despite the love and support the members of the Boyle family try to lend on Rose’s happy occasion, sibling animosity hangs over like a layer of dark clouds. The wedding is to be held on the remote grounds of an old unused military fort, and this is where they will finally get to meet Agatha’s family. The Sklar family

‘It’ Projected To Smash September Box Office Records

After becoming the most viewed trailer in a single day with over 197 Million(!) hits, it’s perhaps not surprising that IT looks to be a huge box office hit. The Dark Tower flopping led to some fears about another major Stephen King project’s prospects, but it now seems those fears were unfounded with IT projected to bring in over $50 Million on its opening weekend. For a year that’s been very light on theatrical horror (other than the stellar Get Out and The Belko Experiment) IT is a welcome presence. The hype machine for this film has been going into overtime, and with only a few weeks left until release it’s reached a fever pitch. Quality wise, rather the film will float above its detractors to critical praise, or crash to the ground like a balloons popped by a critics needle remains to be seen. But even if it disappoints King fans, this film is going to make a lot of

Woman (In Horror) Crush Wednesday: Anna Paquin

Gather ’round my Little Monsters, gather ’round! That midweek celebration of a wonderful Woman of Horror is here for your reading pleasure. With this particular actress you’ll have folks that know her as Rogue and those who know her as Sookie, but regardless of how you know of her you have to admit Anna Paquin is a versatile talent. Anna was born a Canuck in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, as the youngest of Mary and Brian Paquin’s three children. At four years of age, she and her family relocated to Wellington, New Zealand, where she spent several years growing up as a Kiwi. It was during her family’s time in New Zealand that Anna would earn her life changing acting role. Jane Campion’s film, The Piano, was set to roll cameras in New Zealand, and the role of young Flora still needed to be cast. Anna auditioned for the role and beat out thousands of other young hopefuls, including her own

We Have A Fourth ‘Hatchet’ Film!–Adam Green Drops A Bombshell At L.A. ‘Hatchet’ Screening

Last week we posted an article regarding Adam Green showing a free screening of the original Hatchet tonight at the Arclight Hollywood in LA. We mentioned that for Hatchet fans they’d better cancel their plans to attend. Well, we hope they took our advice and here’s why… It just so happened that I tuned in to Adam Green’s live Facebook feed during his presentation prior to screening the film, and he proceeded to drop a bombshell on the audience by recounting a story where the late George Romero encouraged him to keep the Hatchet franchise alive, and that the audience would not be seeing the original Hatchet film tonight, but instead they would be viewing a BRAND NEW HATCHET FILM! That’s right, tonight in L.A. Adam Green is premiering the 4th Hatchet film in the franchise, titled Victor Crowley. Green didn’t give many details about the film, other than it was filmed in secret over that last two years. He

In Support Of VHS

I’m an old soul. I like hot rods, I buy music on vinyl (and I did long before it suddenly got cool again), I smoke a pipe (though I’ve cut way back). My point is that I often dismiss the modern comforts of technology in favor of nostalgic methods. The same goes for the way I watch certain films. Don’t get me wrong–I have a library full of Blu-rays and DVDs–but I simply prefer to watch some films on VHS. I think it goes back to my experiences in the Video Rental Store as a kid. There was just something about walking into a store full of movies and looking at all of those giant clamshell cassette cases on the shelves. Back then, the cover art on those boxes were truly works of art. Nowadays, it seems like every DVD you see in the store was packaged in a cheap, photoshopped rush-job. Some of those classic box images are ingrained

‘Diablo House’ Comic Review–An Old School Horror Comic

Earlier this month, IDW comics released a new series called Diablo House. I’ll admit, this comic snuck up on me as I hadn’t heard much about it prior to the release. It debuted at San Diego Comic Con last month and hit the stores early in August. Let me just say from the start that I really, really liked this book. It’s a nasty look into human nature (mainly anger…), and the first issue plays on the ancient story of Faust. A man who started in a business with nothing soon gains everything his heart could ever desire, only to piss it all away during booze-soaked escapades. Not exactly a new concept, but hey–if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There are a few twists thrown in here and there to keep you turning the pages, and for me anyway, I can’t wait until next month’s issue. Diablo House feels like an old school E.C. comic. There’s a central “crypt

Waxwork Records Releases Special Edition ‘Creepshow’ Soundtrack On Vinyl

In 1982, ‘Creepshow’ was released. If you haven’t seen this horror-anthology film, you need to stop reading this right now and go watch it…I’ll wait. Waxwork Records has announced the release of a brand new special edition vinyl press of the soundtrack. This deluxe 2017 re-press features high quality packaging with heavyweight old-style tip on gatefold jackets with a built-in booklet page, director liner notes from George A. Romero, composer liner notes from John Harrison, 34 retro synth-horror driven tracks, 180 gram colored vinyl, printed inserts, and is loaded with artwork by Ghoulish Gary Pullin. “Waxwork Records worked exhaustively with director George Romero and composer John Harrison to develop the definitive CREEPSHOW soundtrack experience. By collaborating with composer John Harrison (Day Of The Dead, Tales From The Darkside), Waxwork Records located the original 1982 master tapes in an attic in Pittsburgh which were thought have been lost forever. Re-mixed and re-mastered for vinyl, CREEPSHOW has never sounded better, and features

‘Stranger Things’ Ending With Season 4

Nothing lasts forever, and that includes are favorite television shows. And sadly, it’s confirmed that the nostalgic hit ‘Stranger Things’ will be ending with season four. But before your grief turns you upside down, it’s good to realize that were still waiting on Season 2 to come out this Halloween, meaning we’ve got years of Hawkin’s A.V. Club adventures to follow. Notably none of this news is coming from Netflix, but from series creators The Duffer Brothers in an interview with Vulture. Why just four seasons? Too keep it realistic; after all, would you stay in a town as plagued by the supernatural as Hawkins, where casually lounging by the pool in your sweater can end with vicious death from a toothy, dimension hopping demon? “They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town!” Ross Duffer told Vulture. “It’s ridiculous!” Stranger Things Season 2 will be released this Halloween, where it will be “1984 and the citizens
