Spoiler-Free Review: KING ON SCREEN (Panic Fest 2023)

Spoiler-Free Review: KING ON SCREEN (Panic Fest 2023)

French/Belgian coproduction King on Screen is a valentine to the film adaptations of prolific author Stephen King — who truly needs no introduction here — and to the writer himself. Featuring talking-head interviews with filmmakers who adapted King’s works to big and small screens alike, along with behind-the-scenes footage and film clips galore, the film shows the diverse range of genres in which King has worked, and examines why his stories work as well as they do. Director Daphné Baiwir begins her documentary with an Easter-egg–filled seven-minute sequence in which King’s short stories and novels get name checked or alluded to, and it’s a fun way to begin this film. Even the most casual of the author’s fans will get some of the references, while more seasoned aficionados will appreciate the deeper cuts. From there, the interview segments, archival footage that includes King on different sets, and clips from both classic and lesser known King films begin. Filmmakers such as

'The Boogeyman' Scares Up New Clips To Celebrate Home Release

New King Adaptation Will Introduce You To ‘The Boogeyman’ This Summer

The new adaptation of Stephen King’s tale, The Boogeyman, is on its way. The theatrical release has now been announced for the summer. In the film, a man named Lester Billings talks to his psychiatrist about the “murders” of his three young children, describing the events of the past several years. His first two children died mysteriously of apparently unrelated causes (diagnosed as crib death and convulsions, respectively) when left alone in their bedrooms. The only commonalities were that the children cried, “Boogeyman!” and the closet door was found ajar after discovering their corpses, even though Billings is certain the door was shut. Host and “Bite Size Horror” director Rob Savage is at the helm of the film that began filming this past spring and will expand on the original tale. The film stars David Dastmalchian, Chris Messian, Sophie Thatcher, Marin Ireland, and Vivian Lyre Blair. Written by Scott Beck and Mark Heyman, The Boogeyman will open in theaters on

Star Says New 'Salem's Lot' Movie Is A True Adaptation Of King's Story

Star Says New ‘Salem’s Lot’ Movie Is A True Adaptation Of King’s Story

Writer-director Gary Dauberman‘s new adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot is currently in production. Star Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick, Strangers: Prey At Night) has now said that this adaptation is much closer to the book than the mini-series that debuted back in 1979. “Gary Dauberman, the director, is really keen on doing justice to the book. But also, the previous adaptation was a two-parter, because it’s such a hefty book and there are so many different moving parts and so many characters.” Pullman told ComicBook.com. “So there are some parts where Gary had to press and find what was really at the heart of the movie to keep in, but for the most part, he’s really true to the book and keeping a lot of the original dialogue in there. He’s a Stephen King hound dog so he doesn’t wanna do Stephen dirty. So I think it’s in good hands, Gary’s a really smart guy who has a keen

Paramount+ Is Taking Us Back To The ‘Pet Sematary’ With A New Prequel

The world of Pet Sematary is expanding with a new prequel in the works at Paramount+, which will be Lindsey Beer’s feature directorial debut. Jeff Buhler, who penned the script for the 2019 adaptation, based on the Stephen King story, wrote the prequel which was last revised by Beer, THR is reporting. Natalie Alyn Lind (“Big Sky,” “Tell Me a Story”), Jack Mulhern (“Mare of Easttown”), Forrest Goodluck (The Revenant), and Isabella Star LaBlanc have joined the cast with Jackson White (“Mrs. Fletcher”) playing a young Jud Crandall. While there have been no plot details revealed at this point, there are a couple of ways it could go. We can’t help but wonder if the prequel will involve the cautionary story that Jud recounts to Louis about Timmy, the young man who was the last person buried in the Pet Sematary. During the story, Jud says those famous lines, “Sometimes dead is better.” But we could be completely wrong. We
