Movie Review: Crawl Is A Movie You Need To Sink Your Teeth Into

Living in the South, I’ve seen a gator or two and am fully aware of exactly how dangerous they are. I also love creature features so when I saw the trailer for the gator infested action/disaster flick Crawl, I knew I had to see it. Now I have. First let me say, I’m a fan of director Alexandre Aja’s work. He’s a fantastic director. Horns, Mirrors, The Hills Have Eyes, High Tension, all are great films. Needless to say, I had high expectations for Crawl before I even pressed play. The movie begins with college student Haley (Kaya Scodelario) at swim practice when she receives a call from her sister who is concerned about their father (Barry Pepper) not answering his phone as a Catagory 5 hurricane nears landfall in Florida. When Haley arrives at their old house she finds her father injured in the crawl space that’s flooding, but he’s not alone, there’s a big gator looking for a

Movie Review: 3 From Hell

I can’t tell you how excited I was to finally see Rob Zombie’s highly anticipated 3 From Hell, the sequel to both House of 1000 Corpses and Devil’s Rejects. The firefly family is back, somehow surviving the hail of bullets that rained down at the end of The Devil’s Rejects. Just when we thought the gang was down for the count we learn just how tough they truly are. While they find themselves in police custody, you know they won’t be caged long, because, well, they’re the Firefly family. Bill Moseley’s Otis is simply brutal. After making his escape he only has one goal, to free his family. It’s amazing that such a great guy as Moseley can manifest someone so dark. Moseley’s portrayal of Otis proves just how talented the actor really is. After a 15 year gap between The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell, Moseley never skips a beat. I find that incredible. During our recent interview,

Movie Review: MidSommar

Ari Aster’s 2018’s acclaimed horror Hereditary made a huge impact with critics and audiences alike, so when I heard about his next film MidSommar I was more than excited and hopeful that he could continue his winning streak. Of course, the trailer for the film is creepy as hell, but it did not prepare me for what I saw when I finally sat down to watch the film. For three hours after I watched it last night, I sat in bed with the film’s events swimming in my head, in shock. Where to start? First let me say the film, as brutal as it is, it is simply stunning. Bright brilliant colors filled MidSommer, a palette the complete opposite of Hereditary. Everything is beautiful, even the gore is, in a strange way. The cinematography is absolutely incredible. Beauty and brutality go hand in hand in the film. As for gore, there is a ton of it and the term brutal

Movie Review: Satanic Panic (2019) – Dan XIII’s take!

Something evil is afoot in the town our heroine Sam (Hayley Griffith… who our own ever-awesome Kelli interviewed right here) delivers pizza in. Sure, there’s the expected weirdo shit-birds one would expect a person to encounter deliverin’ picture perfect pies at all hours, but there’s also somethin’ a bit different; namely a high class group of Satanists led by the comely witch bitch Danica (Rebecca Romijn) that is just aching to include our gal in all manner of sacrificial deviltry after a late night delivery. Soon Sam is up to her pepperoni and extra cheese in diabolical demons and monstrous magic, and it’ll take every ounce of her wits to keep her life and soul intact during this hellish night of horrors… and hilarity… You see cats n’ creeps, ol’ Satanic Panic, for all that the sinister synopsis up yonder would lead you to believe otherwise, is a rather hilarious comedy, with some well done horror overtones… especially some well

Movie Review: The Banana Splits Movie (2019)

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share on my Own.” Odds are, as a kid, you watched the 60’s children’s’ series “The Banana Splits’, even if the episodes were reruns. Now, Warner Bros. is gearing to release a horror film by the same name. The Banana Splits Movie offers a new terrifying take on the classic characters and centers on a boy named Harley, his friend, and his family as they visit the studio to watch a live taping of his favorite show on his birthday. What is meant to be a day that makes Harley’s dreams come true quickly becomes a nightmare as the bodies start piling up. Dani Kind stars as Harley, a kid who gets teased a lot for being different. After Harley’s friend gets sick his mom invites Zoe to the studio in hopes that she and Harley will become

Movie Review: ‘Satanic Panic’ Is A Fun Flick Worthy Of Praise

What happens when you mix a Satanic cult and broke virgin? You get director Chelsea Stardust‘s Satanic Panic starring Rebecca Romijn, Jerry O’Connell, and Jordan Ladd. Hayley Griffith (interview) plays the lead role of Sam,a young woman working her first night as a pizza delivery girl. With what felt like a nod to Clerks, the film opens with Sam talking with other delivery people before heading off on her delivery route, praying she gets a tip before her scooter runs out of gas. Of course, she runs into a series of cheapskates and weirdoes. When an order needs to be delivered to the rich section of town, she jumps at the chance, not knowing she’s about to run into serious trouble. Between raunchy advances, magical spells, and the threat of becoming a sacrifice, Sam’s day just went from bad to worse. Now, all she has to do is survive the night, a demon, and the cult lead by Danica (Romijn)

Movie Review: Darlin’

“Walking Dead” star Pollyanna McIntosh makes her directorial debut with Darlin’, the sequel to Lucky McKee’s 2011 horror The Woman, which McIntosh also starred in. Before we delve into my review of Darlin’ let me give you a quick rundown of The Woman. In the film, a successful misogynistic country lawyer captures a feral woman in an attempt to “civilize” the member of a violent, cannibalistic clan roaming the coast by breaking her will. But somethings just can’t be broken. Darlin’ picks up years later after the woman has raised the child she took. Darlin’, now a young woman wanders into a hospital. Unable to speak and wild, she meets a nurse (Cooper Andrews) who is able to somewhat communicate through kindness. She is seen as a curiosity and sent to a girls home run by the church where she becomes the project of a nun and Bishop who hope to use her as a way to save the facility

Episode Review: Into The Dark’s “Culture Shock”

Blumhouse’s July’s episode of “Into the Dark” is an American dream turned into a nightmare for a group of immigrants trying to cross the border. “Culture Shock” takes aim at some of the hardships those seeking asylum experience, with a terrifying twist. With the recent headlines about the horrors of immigration and the mistreatment of those who seek out a better life, this episode was perfectly timed and I think its timing makes it even more intense. The episode centers on Marisol, played by Martha Higareda, a young pregnant woman who strikes out with a coyote, along with Santo (Richard Cabral), and several other immigrants. While on the run they suddenly wake up in a strangely perfect town. While everyone seems to be happy (too happy) Marisol somehow knows that something strange is going on and nothing is what it seems. As she’s guided, or guarded, depending on your view, by a strange woman (Barbra Crampton) we see that she

Movie Review: Jordan Peele’s US

I unboxed a swag pack from Jordan Peele’s most recent film, US. Included in the box was the Blu-ray, which I’ve been eagerly awaiting to see for months. I popped the movie in and sat back with my fingers crossed that the movie would live up to the hype. Let’s face it, Peele sat the bar high right from the get-go with Get Out. In the first seconds of the film a black screen appears with a spiel about tunnels running under the entire U.S. this is important. You might not think so at first, seeing that the synopsis only talks about a mother returning to her childhood home with her family for a holiday, but it is, so is the bible verse (Jeremiah 11:11) which we see repeatedly throughout the movie. Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I

Movie Review: Slaughterhouse Rulez Has The Makings Of New Cult Classic

I hate getting my hopes up when it comes to movies, I’m often let down. Luckily, that isn’t the case with Slaughterhouse Rulez. I’ve been excited about director Crispin Mills’ horror comedy since the moment I first saw the trailer. Finally, I watched it and I’m happy to report that it’s the best horror comedy I’ve seen in years. The twisted humor in this movie will keep you laughing until you’re splitting at the seems. And the action will keep you on the edge of your seat. When it comes to gore, by god this movie is oozing with it. Star Simon Pegg delivers a fine performance as an awkward heartbroken teacher, reminiscent of his character in the classic Shaun of the Dead. Speaking of Shaun of the Dead, Pegg’s co-star Nick Frost joins him and plays the part of a former student turned activist protesting the nearby fracking site. As always, his rough around the edges charm doesn’t disappoint.
