Dexter is coming back … again. Back in July, it was revealed that the world of Dexter will be expanding with three new series: “Dexter: Original Sin,” which centers on a young Dexter; a new season of “Dexter: New Blood,” which follows Dexter’s son; andDexter: Resurrection.”

Here’s what we know so far about “Dexter: Resurrection.

Michael C. Hall is returning as the iconic serial killer who hunts down other killers. Hall told Variety that the new series will resume right after the events of the 2021 sequel series “New Blood,” which was set 10 years after the original series. It saw Dexter living a new life in a small town in upstate New York under an assumed name. The season ended with Dexter being shot by his son (Jack Alcott). He was left bleeding out in the snow. While showrunner Clyde Phillips swore that we had seen the last of Dexter, it appears he somehow made it through.

Who will star?

The cast of “Dexter: Resurrection” has not been announced, but given the franchise’s track record, we will likely see the return of other stars from both “New Blood” and the original series.

When will it premiere?

It is likely to be a while. According to reports, “Dexter: Resurrection” will not premiere until the summer of 2025. But seeing that we are getting three different installments, that’s not surprising.

The Other Series

Unlike “Ressurection,” we know a good bit about “Dexter: Original Sin.” Michael C. Hall will lend his voice as the “inner voice” of a younger Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson. A taste of the show’s opening sequence, which echoes the original opening for “Dexter,” comes complete with Hall’s narration and garnered over 550,000 views in just 12 hours!

The prequel explores Dexter’s formative years in Miami, growing up in the early 1990s. It’s a time when he grapples with his dark urges while confiding in his father figure, Harry (Christan Slater). Harry, a homicide detective, instills Dexter’s infamous “Code” – a set of rules guiding him to target and eliminate those who escape the justice system.

Molly Brown stars as Debra Morgan, Dexter’s beloved sister. Sarah Michelle Gellar will play CSI Chief Tanya Martin, and Patrick Dempsey (Thanksgiving) stars as Aaron Spencer, Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide.

The cast also includes Joe Pantoliano (“Chucky”), Brittany Allen (What Keeps You Alive), Randy Gonzalez (Bloodline), Aaron Jennings (Pure Genius), Raquel Justice (One Day at a Time), Jasper Lewis (V/H/S), Carlo Mendez (The Bay), Isaac Gonzalez Rossi (That’s Amor) and Roberto Sanchez (Palm Royale). James Martinez plays Angel Batista.

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner of “Dexter,” will also serve as showrunner for the prequel, whose first season will feature ten episodes executive-produced by Hall.

Dexter: New Blood” will pick up after the season one finale, which saw Dexter’s son on the run after shooting his father. The story will explore Harrison’s struggle with his violent urges, mirroring his father’s dark passenger.

In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Clyde Phillips discussed Harrison’s complex character and potential for darkness. “Harrison has the seeds of the dark passenger within him,” Phillips stated. “He’s capable, as evidenced by his takedown of Dexter. He feels compelled to kill.”

The series is set to return in late 2025 or early 2026. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, here’s a look back at the first season’s trailer. Watch season one now on Paramount+.
