Movie Review: Are The Critics On The Right Track About Bullet Train?

Movie Review: Are The Critics On The Right Track About Bullet Train?

There are plenty of examples out there of movies that were panned by the critics but which still managed to attract some more favorable reviews from cinema-goers themselves. And even some turkeys that died a death at the box office but have gone on to be a big success thanks to streaming services and DVD sales. One movie whose critical success, at least, hangs in the balance is the 2022 Brad Pitt vehicle, Bullet Train. As soon as the teaser trailer was released earlier this year many were intrigued. Shot like a travel promo for the legendary Japanese bullet train with soothing music and reassuring voiceover, the question was why a scarred and weary-looking Brad Pitt was on board. It was only when the movie’s actual trailer was released that we got a better idea of the irony that lay behind the teaser that preceded it. The Pitt Effect Bullet Train represents the next fascinating step in the career of

Movie Reviews: “Everyone Will Burn,” “Missing,” and “A Life on the Farm” (Fantastic Fest)

Everyone Will Burn Spanish shocker Everyone Will Burn (Y todos arderán; 2021) is a stylish, gripping effort from director David Hebrero, who cowrote the screenplay with Javier Kiran. Macarena Gómez gives a stunning lead performance as María José, a woman whose son was driven to suicide by other boys because the townspeople are a superstitious and hateful lot, generally speaking. As she is about to take her own life, she is interrupted by a young girl named Lucia (Sofía García in a terrific debut performance) who emerges from somewhere nearby in nature, covered in mud. As the pair drive toward town so that María José can drop off the girl with the authorities, they are stopped by two policemen who soon learn — as does María José — that the girl is empowered with supernatural abilities. As the townsfolk turn further against María José and also set their sights on also persecuting Lucia, dark secrets from the past arise, making
