New Director Sinks His Fangs Into Marvel’s ‘Blade’

Yann Demange, who served as an exec produced for “Lovecraft Country,” as well as directed its pilot episode, has replaced Bassam Tariq as the director for Marvel’s upcoming Blade movie, which is being described as a more dark, gritty, and edgier movie than fans usually get from Marvel. The vampire movie also has a new writer, Emmy winner Michael Starrbury, known for The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete and for writing episodes of series such as “When They See Us.” We last heard the voice of Oscar-winner and star Mahershala Ali as Blade in the post-credit scene of 2021’s Eternals (see the clip below) when Dane (Kit Harington)/ the Black Knight reaches for a sword wrapped in cloth in a wooden box. AMC is kicking off the new year with the premiere of “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches,” hot off the heels of the premiere of Rice’s “Interview with the Interview” series. “The series will focus on an intuitive young neurosurgeon who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. As she grapples with her newfound powers, she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.” Alexandra Daddario, Jack Huston, Harry Hamlin, and Annabeth Gish star. Esta Spalding (“Masters of Sex”) and Michelle Ashford (“Masters of Sex”) are writing and executive producing the series. It’s that time of year as 2022 is coming to a close and along with it many game releases. This year was a busy review year, and going through the list I was able to come up with 15 horror games that I reviewed ranked from bad to good. It’s a long list so let’s start with one of the worse games reviewed this year, shall we? 35MM This Russian-made first-person game is labeled as a “Survival Horror” taking place in a post-apocalyptic world. The scariest thing about this game was how horrifically boring it was with a lack of scares and action. The game is more of a depressing walking simulator. Mothmen 1966 An 80s-style DOS game about a group of characters trying to survive a night with multiple Mothmen attacking them. The premise sounded promising but the game copped out on that. Spanish filmmaker Narciso Ibáñez Serrador is a true punk rock filmmaker (yeah this is a weird way to start a review, but bear with me cats n’ creeps). Having dug on American horror and anthology series such as The Outer Limits, Thriller, and the like, the ambitious filmmaker just said “Fuck it, I can do this shit too.”… except he said it in Spanish (if at all)… and he did just that with his series Tales To Keep You Awake (albeit with way more vicious violence and sweet, sweet grizzly gore than all of those show’s combined)!
