“Jigsaw” Hits $100 Million At The Box Office

While far from universally loved, “Jigsaw”, the much belated 8th installment in the “Saw” franchise, has been a rousing success, financially at least. It’s been a universally strong year for horror at the Box Office (even while other films struggled) and despite opening far less than it’s predecessors, “Jigsaw” has cleared a cool $100 Million. The days of the annual horror installment seem to be behind us, with nary a peep from the “Paranormal Activity” franchise, and this being the first “Saw” film in over seven years. But with “The Conjuring” universe creeping up on us, and maybe “The Dark Universe” if it doesn’t get cancelled (spoilers: things don’t look good) maybe soon horror fans will have a series to look forward to every Halloween. I love innovation as much as anyone, and any new ways films can be shit-your-pants-scary are A-ok in my book. Still, a little redundancy and familiarity never killed anyone. Well, except for all the poor

Brown, Olivia Munn, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Edward James Olmos, Trevante Rhodes, Augusto Aguilera, Alfie Allen, and Yvonne Strahovski. Jane revealed last month a little about the characters, that they are military vets suffering from PTSD who meet a guy who thinks he’s seen a UFO and the group decides to hunt down the creature. We’re all like ‘fuck that man, let’s go kill these fucking predators ourselves’ and we’re just crazy enough to believe that this guy really did see a UFO

Tarantino Potentially Set To Direct R-rated “Star Trek” Reboot

For every sci-fi nerd and movie geek whose wanted Tarantino to direct a film set in a galaxy far far away, the news that he pitched a “Star Trek” film to J.J. Abrams this past week is extremely exciting, if not unexpected. The current plan, which would have Tarantino direct the film, but not write it, is unusual for a couple of reasons. For starters, Tarantino almost never directs projects he doesn’t write himself, and other than a handful of television episodes, has shied away from franchises. And perhaps most surprising, in contrast to the historically more upbeat television series and films, Tarantino’s “Star trek” film would be rated R! Few details have been released so far, but a gritty R-rated “Star Trek” with Tarantino dialogue might just be the masterpiece I never knew I wanted, but now I can’t stop thinking about.

Neil Cross (Luther) who penned the script told Deadline that not only has John Carpenter, who wrote and directed the 1981 original, has not only read the script but has given it the green light. John Carpenter on the set of Escape From New York (1981) “Robert Rodriguez is attached to direct and it’s looking good and exciting,” Cross told Deadline. “It was quite a challenging script, it’s a challenging thing to reinvent. One of the most terrifying sentences I’ve ever heard in my life is ‘we’ve given the script to John Carpenter’. I crawled around for three days thinking ‘oh my god’ but we got John Carpenter’s seal of approval. He approved it and that’s all I need.” He continued, “You never quite know [if it’s done] but I

Filming For ‘Halloween’ Has Been Delayed

Fans are thrilled about getting a new sequel in the Halloween franchise and the fact that Jamie Lee Curtis is returning to reprise her role as Laurie Strode just makes it sweeter. The latest news is that filming has been delayed until mid-January. The reason? Casting is taking longer than expected. While much of the cast is being kept under wraps, we do know that Judy Greer (Jurassic World) has entered negotiations to play a key role, that of Laurie Strode’s daughter, Karen Strode. n the new film, “Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.” It sounds as if the film, directed by David Gordon Green, will act as if every film of the franchise beyond the original Halloween never existed. Green co-wrote the “reinvention” with Danny McBride. John Carpenter will provide the score as well as
