Blu-ray Review: Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge (1989)

Blu-ray Review: Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge (1989)

Phantom of the Mall… that’s one of the most ’80s concepts I can possibly imagine, so let’s see what the age of rampant consumerism and questionable fashion choices has wrought this time, shall we? A new mall is being opened (which those in charge think will actually help juvenile delinquency… ) and gal-pals Melody (Kari Whitman) and Susie have just become full-fledged employees… but that’s no big deal as the place let’s Pauly fuckin’ Shore (as Buzz) dish out scoops in the food court, which if his well-known habit of “wheezin’ the juice” is considered, will have that place shut down by the Board of Health by noon… You know what else might make the mall’s progress a bit dicey? Melody’s old flame Eric (Derek Rydall) is prowling the mall’s ventilation ducts putting a murder on anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path! Why is Eric so pissed? Well, he’s been completely disfigured courtesy of a mysterious house fire (a

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

The Top 10 Best Horror Shows Of 2021

10. Midnight Mass (review) One of the new series the streaming giant, Netflix, unleashed this year is “Midnight Mass” from brilliant filmmaker Mike Flanagan, whose winning relationship with Netflix has given us hit series such as “The Haunting of Hill House” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” In “Midnight Mass“, “The arrival of a charismatic young priest brings glorious miracles, ominous mysteries, and renewed religious fervor to a dying town desperate to believe.” While I did have issues with some of the elements of the show, mainly the ending, it belongs on this list due to the quality of the series and its incredible all-star cast. 9. Shadow and Bone Dark and supernatural, the series, an adaptation of the best-selling Grishaverse novels, is set in a war-torn world where Alina Starkov has just discovered a power that could be the key to setting her country free. With the threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she

Blu-ray Review: Giallo Essentials (1965 -1978)

If you are new to the whole giallo genre (or looking to fill in gaps in your collection), Arrow Video has you covered with it’s new release of a Blu-ray set titled appropriately enough; Giallo Essentials, a collection of three films that deliver all of the mystery, murder, and terrifying twists the genre has to offer! Disc one brings us 1965’s The Possessed: Successful writer-type Bernard (Peter Baldwin) returns to a small Italian village for his winter holiday in the hopes of gettin’ hot n’ horny with Tilde (Virna Lisi), a local gal he had some fun with the last time he was down this way. The fact that she committed suicide a few months before he returned doesn’t sit well with our hero, so he goes a-sleuthin’… a good thing too, as some around town believe she was actually murdered! More of a straight-forward murder mystery with giallo overtones (those sick bed hallucinations baby), The Possessed, co-directed and written

What Would Scenes From A 21st Century Bingo Horror Movie Look Like?

What Would Scenes From A 21st Century Bingo Horror Movie Look Like?

Bingo and horror movies go together like peanut butter and jelly. When the horror genre has Christmas films that involve dabbers and wheels filled with balls, from Psycho to The Candyman and Dracula, you know there’s a crossover! However, the majority of them are quite dated now, and they highlight the retro nature of bingo. The game has moved on a lot since the 1980s and 90s, yet there aren’t many movies or TV series that represent the genre. Of course, that doesn’t stop motion picture buffs wondering what a 21st-century bingo horror flick would look like today. Some people would say it’s your ghastly duty. Scene One: A Rowdy Bingo Party Hear us out – a modern bingo horror scene would be a killer’s dream. The game has evolved so much in the last couple of decades that it provides the ideal cover for people with bad intentions. Think about traditional halls and function rooms, and consider how quiet
